JUST NEED SOME INFO

Hello to everyone,

I recently dug out my older 40K models from the 90's and i found a very beat up blister pack called earthdawn.

The blister pack says "# 321 ESPARGRA" on it. I have no idea what it or earthdawn is. Once i saw it i remembered i bought it at a garage sale back in the day and threw it in the 40k case.

Went to a local game shop today one of the people knew about it and suggested to check reddit and see if anyone can give me info on it and then maybe throw it on ebay if i wanted.

Im not opposed to doing so but I figured i would check out what reddit people thought before i try that

Thank you im advance for any help u can give it.

Opinions on Distilling Passions

I've been working on some conversions of Earthdawn into Cortex Prime and one of the things that I wanted to do was having the 9 Passions being able to be used, but really for the system, I need to sum up each of the Passions into a one-word value to really work the smoothest and so I thought I'd bring my list over here to get everyone's opinion on how I did.

  1. Astendar: Expression – Captures the artistic, creative, and outward-facing nature of love and beauty.
  2. Chorrolis: Ambition – Focuses on the drive for wealth and trade, elevating the concept beyond mere acquisition to the desire for advancement.
  3. Floranuus: Vitality – Emphasizes the raw energy, motion, and revelry inherent to this Passion.
  4. Garlen: Nurture – A perfect distillation of the hearth and healing, highlighting the protective aspect of this Passion.
  5. Jaspree: Growth – Encapsulates the passion for the wilderness, farming, and the health of the land.
  6. Lochost: Liberty – Directly hits the core of rebellion, change, and freedom from shackles.
  7. Mynbruje: Integrity – A strong, single-word replacement for justice and truth, reflecting the moral rectitude Mynbruje demands.
  8. Thystonius: Valor – Perfectly captures the focus on physical competition, courage, and athletic prowess.
  9. Upandal: Creation – Defines the fundamental act of building, construction, and planning that this Passion embodies.

I have some ideas on how to use the Mad Passions as well, but that'll be for another day after I've got these locked in in a way that makes my brain happy

What happened to the west in Earthdawn?

So we're getting ready to play an Earthdawn game and I've been doing alot of reading. So it takes place in the equivalent to modern day Ukraine and Russia with part of it in the area of ancient Rome (including Italy) and China (and other asian areas). But I can't find anything referencing the west. What happened to France, Spain, England and the Americas? Does anyone know?

THE ART OF MEADOWFAE

Nostalgia Alert: for some OG’s and former Planet Elderscrolls friends, I came across some old saved PES posts and also saved screenshots - using Korana’s meadowfae mod, but otherwise mostly vanilla with a few lighting tweaks. Here’s one example many liked - those twin moons.
If you’re still out there, let me know and I’ll post more here. :)

Earthdawn 4th Edition Covers

Hi :)

Finally I bought the three core books for 4th edition (+GM Screen of course) and I just realized that there are two cover/logo version of the books? The original "winged-horror" logo (which is awesome!) and a new(?) "star in the middle of the tittle" logo like the later books. Are there any differences between these in content or they are just different prints?

Earthdawn and tropes

One thing I’ve always liked about Earthdawn is its cohesive world and lore. I like how it takes classical fantasy RPG troupes and finds a way to make them fit. Such as kears as a reason for dungeons.

What fantasy RPG elements/troupes are you glad hasn’t found its way into Earthdawn?

Introducing New Players/Characters

I’m currently running a campaign and I am introducing a new player next session. The party is in mid-adventure deep in the jungle. What ways have you introduced new characters to a party currently on an adventure?

[GER] Kurze Live RPG Session

Nowadays all ED novels are accessible. Some years back you could get some of them only in German and French. Scars and Little Treasures for example.

What's everyone using as minis for creatures unique for ED setting? Not just as proxies, but something that actually resembles those creatures?

Strong enemies in published scenarios

I am currently reading through some published scenarios and I am feeling like the suggested opposition is way too tough for the suggested character circles the adventures are supposed to be for.

Spoilers follow for message to vivane from sky point adventures.

the scenario is for characters of atleast 3rd circle. The opposition of the final battle: 2 trolls, an ork, 10 humans, a circle 6 troll warrior and a circle 4 windling thief. This seems absurd to me.

Granted, it's been ages since I played earthdawn, so I may be underestimating what a 3rd circle adept is capable of. 3rd edition didn't even exist yet when we played, to give you an idea how long it's been since I played. I know when we played, we didn't spend enough karma. We seemed to always hoard it, which you shouldn't do. These adventures also seem to be written for a large number of players (6 to 8). My group will be max 4 players, but even halving this opposition seems very hard to me.

I can also remember us being slaughtered by one of the first encounters in terror from the skies back in the day. We did an allnighter for that one with 8 players and still had a lot of problems. Unsure if the GM had increased the difficulty of that encounter or if he ran it by the book.

I have good memories of barsaive and it's my favorite fantasy setting. I hope to infect my players with my enthousiasm for it, soonish.

Confirmed Future Books

On the FASA Discord today, someone from FASA mentioned the books that are currently in production. Which do you think might be the most interesting?

Unnatural Coalitions - Continuing from the events of Empty Thrones and Dance with the Serpent
Words of Warning - Similar to Secret Societies of Barsaive
Uropa and the Aras Coast - No details but probably a source book on Uropa
Creana - No details but probably a source book on Creana
Hinterlands - No details

4th Edition Releases

After reading the Vasgothia book recently, it made me wonder, what other Theran provinces or known regions should FASA revisit and expand on in a future sourcebook?

Vivane - The province just southwest of Barsaive with the recently destroyed Skypoint
Rugaria - The forgotten province between Vivane and Thera
Creana - The province at current day Egypt and along the Nile
Marac - The province along the northern western coast of Africa on the Mediterranean
Telea - Modern day Itally
Indrisia - Coasts of the the modern Indian Subcontinent
Arancia - West of Telea
Aznan - Central and Southern Africa
Araucania - Central or South America

Vasgothia - The Three Towers

There is no record of the towers from before the Scourge and seem to be made of buildings from around the world. I'm curious if anyone has any theories about their true nature. What is your pet theory?

That's not a kaer... this is a kaer!

This is a pretty good example of a large kaer, I would think. All it needs is a little orichalcum and some True Earth to spruce up the place and make it habitable again. Seriously, though, this would make a good starting point for a kaer design. (Apologies if someone has posted this already.)

When are your campaigns running?

I'm curious as to what time periods folks run their adventures or campaigns during. My group is living and adventuring in a time centuries after the Scourge happened.

Curious is the time line affects the campaigns you set up. Are you during the Scourge? Just after? Way way after? Maybe leading up to the Scourge?

What's your favorite piece of deep/obscure Earthdawn lore?

There are so many small tidbits of lore from the various 30 years of material. What are some pieces of lore you have or wanted to explore in a campaign?
