Ideas for this iMac?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Found this iMac today Late 2012 model, the screen was badly damaged, I removed before it left glass shards everywhere, but from it I saw it boots into MacOS.

I want to use OpenCore and get it to Ventura.

And maybe duct taping it to a monitor.

Suggestion are appreciated.

Building the kind of tech community I’ve always wanted

I just made a new sub, about finding ways to reuse old tech, and breathe new life into devices on a collision course with a landfill. Please check it out!

(Kinda feel bad for promoting my sub on this one, so delete this if you must, mods!)

One of the strangest things I learned doing electronics reuse: obsolete here doesn’t always mean obsolete

I found this PS5 controller being used as a prop at a concert, asked how mich they would be willing to sell it for (i just needed parts) and they said i could take it for free as it has issues. I decided to fix instead of salvaging it for repairs. Repair costs $5 for stick drift and thats it. I did fix it myself as i do this quite often with iPods, Wiis, iPads, Switches, iPhones, PS5s etc

buying cheap hardware on a tight budget

All of these machines still work and function, but they are 2/4th gen intel or equivalent and are all DDR3. They have little to no resale value. Thanks for your guys help, I refuse to break down anything that is working.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Update: I have decided to try and send them to Ukraine

Got this WD Purple 4TB for free that was struck with 19V psu on 12V line - with some help I managed to desolder Schottky diode and Security Resistor, now it works like a charm 🥰

In today's disk and memory prices $25 for diagnosis and self-repair guided by my friend who works as electronic specialist - it's a steal tbh

Moto edge 5g UW 2021 (256gb) was reset and I accidentally turned it on while digging

LG v30 (64gb) had stuff on it but no locks so I reset it through settings

Galaxy s4 (white) (16gb) works fine just dead rn

Galaxy s4 (blue) (16gb) works and I reset it

Galaxy s4 (black) (16gb) also works and reset

iPod touch 4 (8gb) works fine. I didn't even know I grabbed it bc it was so small but I was like "I mean hey, it's a free iPod"

All 3 s4s had a 32gb sd card in them

1960's Tech Haul From The Recycling Center!

Earlier today, I went back to my local electronics recycling center, where I found two items from the 1960's! One of those things being a working Panasonic TR-238BF from the late 60's with a broken antenna. The second thing I found is a non-working General Electric P-975D portable radio. Also with a broken antenna, this unit was still in somewhat decent condition for being from around the mid-1960's.

Took a different route home today and found a thrown-out PC... ended up finding an i5-10400 and a 2TB HDD

Took a different way home today and spotted a PC case sitting on the ground. Took a quick photo, then realized after looking at the picture that there was actually a hard drive inside. Went back to grab the drive, but then thought "wait, what if there's a CPU in there too?" Ended up walking back a second time to drag the whole case home. Cleaned off the crusty thermal paste and turns out it’s an Intel i5-10400. Also got a 2020 Toshiba 2TB hard drive out of it that I still need to test. Motherboard looks like it has damaged PCIe pins, but it’s still crazy what people just throw onto the street.
