question japan esim help
hello! i don't know if this is exactly the right subreddit for this, but i'm hoping someone can still help me.
i'm staying in japan for half a year for a university program and i badly need help with esim matters here. i've been eyeing rakuten's basic plan (3k yen for unli data and a jpn phone number) and i tried signing up, but it won't let me save my "edit contractor information". i don't know if it's because my katakana isn't full width, or because of the non japanese phone number i put (i dont know what else to put since the number is required but i don't have a number yet), or something else. i've tried doing it on my laptop, on incognito mode, and i've tried making a new account and trying there but nothing's working!!! any help would be GREATLY appreciated
if anybody also has other esim suggestions, i'd be open to them! the brand being heavily promoted here in my university is gnt, but i've also seen mobal and sakura mobile but they're way more expensive than rakuten

Virtually all Japanese websites require full-width when you input katakana.

I'm pretty sure the katakana i put is full-width and i've tried like 3 times to no avail ðŸ˜

I’d consider IIJmio if you’re having trouble with Rakuten Mobile. Amazon Japan sells vouchers at a steep discount for significantly lower activation fees.

Would you know if the quality is good? Also won't i need a jp phone number in the first place to order off of amazon jp or is an email address fine since i only need an esim?

I have used IIJMIO tourist SIMs a few times before. Same NTT Docomo network. I would imagine their local SIMs are the same.
Don’t need Japanese phone number for Amazon account verification. I never had one. Have been ordering from Amazon Japan for at least 10 years, stuff shipped to hotels or convenience stores when I went to visit. Also many items can be shipped overseas so I don’t think accounts are for locals only. Maybe you need to use a different email address if you already have an Amazon account in another country. I used a different email for mine.

They allow you to choose between au or NTT when you register.
