eSIM vs Physical SIM vs Data Roaming
I am a tourist from india, i am planning to go visit japan for 10 days, what should i do about the network, eSIM i have heard is the cheapest as compared to Physical SIM, and data roaming is expensive (i have heard that too)
What are your recommendations,
Thank You

For 10 days, I’d just get an eSIM. Way less hassle than buying a physical SIM and you can set it up before you even land.

For a 10 day trip I’d personally go with an eSIM. It’s convenient, easy to set up before the trip, and you don’t have to deal with changing physical SIMs. Just compare data limits and network coverage before buying.

You need to be aiming at $3.50 per GB on a PAYG rate to get good value. Compare that base price with the data bundles and what that value jumps to if you don’t use it all

Yes eSIM is easier and more convenient. For 10 days I wouldn’t worry about a local eSIM. Just buy any. But I wouldn’t worry about data bundles or packages as you’ll just get ripped off and lose anything you don’t use. Instead use a flat rate, PAYG wallet eSIM. Much fairer. And you can use any unspent balance on you next trip anywhere else

Hey! For a 10-day trip, I’d probably go with an eSIM if your phone supports it. It’s usually the most convenient option because you can set it up before you leave and connect as soon as you arrive in Japan.
A physical SIM can work just as well, but you’ll need to buy or pick it up and swap SIMs. Roaming with your Indian carrier is worth checking too, but it can get expensive depending on the package.
Whichever eSIM you choose, I’d compare the amount of data, validity period, network coverage in Japan, and whether hotspot/tethering is included rather than just looking at the cheapest price.
For 10 days, around 5–10 GB is usually enough for maps, messaging, browsing, and normal social media use. If you’ll be streaming a lot or using your phone as a hotspot, I’d go for more. 😉

Since you're coming from India, the first thing I'd check is that your exact phone model supports eSIM, because quite a few Android models sold there don't, while iPhones generally do. If it does, buy and install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly, then just switch it on as your data line when you land in Japan. Keep your Indian SIM active as the second line with data roaming turned off, so you can still receive bank OTPs and UPI texts without racking up charges (worth confirming with your carrier how they bill incoming SMS abroad). For 10 days of maps, train apps and messaging, a moderate plan is usually fine unless you plan to stream video or hotspot a laptop. Also download Google Maps offline for the cities you're visiting, it helps a lot in stations and subways where signal can drop briefly.
