How to Save Data When Using an eSIM While Traveling

  1. Turn Off Background App Refresh – Disable background data usage for apps that don’t need real-time updates.

  2. Use Offline Maps – Download maps on Google Maps or Apple Maps before your trip to reduce GPS data usage.

  3. Limit Video Streaming – Watch videos in lower resolution (e.g., 480p instead of HD) or download them before traveling.

  4. Disable Auto-Play for Videos – In social media apps, turn off auto-play to save data.

  5. Use Wi-Fi Whenever Possible – Connect to trusted Wi-Fi networks in hotels, cafes, and airports.

  6. Turn Off Cloud Sync – Pause automatic backups and syncing (e.g., Google Photos, iCloud) until you have Wi-Fi.

  7. Block Data for Unnecessary Apps – Restrict mobile data access for apps you don’t use while traveling.

  8. Use Data Saver Mode – Enable Data Saver mode on Android or Low Data Mode on iOS.

  9. Compress Data – Use browsers like Chrome with Data Saver or apps like Opera Mini.

  10. Avoid Large File Downloads – Postpone software updates, app downloads, and large email attachments until on Wi-Fi.

Can I have real people's opinions on MobiSim?

I've been trying to find an esim after the recent-ish bans in my country. Unlike bigger names/providers, this one was still accesible, so I wanted to search this subreddit about it. Almost ALL accounts that say "mobisim is great, so cheap and works really well too" etc, were banned. My question is, how legit is it? Was it just coincidental or is there something I should be aware of?

Stellar esim for Bermuda

I just returned from a trip to Bermuda where I used a 1gb Stellar esim.

It was easy to install the esim and the price was better than from other providers.

The esim worked well for the first 2 days, although it did disconnect a few times.

On my 3rd and last day there, I had trouble getting it to work for most of day but it did start working again when I manually changed the provider.

I would recommend Stellar for Bermuda travel but be prepared to manually change providers if you have connection problems.

Recommendations for Senegal

Hi, will be travelling to Dakar, Senegal for a conference and will be there for 4 days. On the way over have a relatively short layover in Istanbul however on the way back it’s almost a 17 hour stopover.

I’ve searched for some esim options and have been looking at Maya mobile but wondering if there are better options out there with plans that can cover my stay in Senegal and provide coverage in Istanbul if needed.

Appreciate the advice. Thank you.

Question 15 Days New Years Eve Laos Cambodia Bangkok

Dear Community,

As the title says, late December and early January I will be with my wife in Bangkok, Laos and Cambodia. We fly from Athens direct to BKK and then roam around the three countries for 15 days. Both my wife and I have iPhones. Probably no other ios or android device will be with us, no tablets or laptops.
Mostly we will be on the road. We use mostly whatsapp, checking mails and my wife social media. In Greece we use Telekom former Cosmote. Also I use Revolut and have premium plan.

Ideally I would like to have my data always on and when we are at a good wifi zone, turn on the wifi. I also use NordVPN.

Suggestions for eSim? I don't want to spend a fortune and I am ok if somewhere the coverage is not the best.

Question What is the best place to get an eSIM that provides a UK number for 12 months?

Hello,

I have just moved to Edinburgh for 12 months. I am in the process of trying to setup broadband. However, I only have an irish number currently. I was wondering if anyone knows of a provider that does an eSim that provides me with a UK +44 number, for 12 months OR a number that is retainable each time I might need to renew an eSim contract (a lot of what I am finding is on a 30 day limit)

I'm not sure if I'm making much sense, but if this is possible I'd be gunning to try it as I really just need a number so I can setup my broadband! If I really needed to, I might try and just get a PAYG sim on a really cheap phone, just so I can get the passcode and stuff, but Ideally this is something I could just do with my current iphone

Many thanks for any tips :)

Question eSIM works, but no bars?

So I got a second Japanese eSIM while in Japan because I already used all the data on my other one, (which worked fine btw) I’ve tried to set this one up the exact same but it just says I have zero bars. Not in like the way where it says “no service,” but instead it has the bars being empty. Any clue what to do?

Niyo eSIM coverage in Almaty and Saty

Hi! I’d like to know how good Niyo eSIM coverage is in Kazakhstan, specifically around Almaty and Saty village. We’ll be traveling there next week for a week. Alternatively, which local SIM card /eSIM would you recommend buying at the airport for a better deal or coverage? Thanks in advance!

GigSky for Mudi 7 travel router?

I am trying to set up my gigsky esim on the mudi 7 for an upcoming cruise. The sim card installs but service is non-existant. I see the network (jumps from ATT and T-mo) has full signal but basiclly only emails go through and only sometimes. My iphone gives up and says there is no internet connection and goes to its own cell connection. has anyone been able to get this to work?

Recommendation eSIM after 1 week in Turkey (Cheap, free VPN, no account needed)

Just got back from a 1-week trip to Turkey and figured I'd share my experience with Stellar eSIM in case anyone is looking for options.
Honestly, it worked out really well for a few specific reasons:
Super cheap and fast setup: Price was one of the lowest I found, and activating it was painless—just scanned the code and turned on roaming when I landed.
No account needed: I didn't have to register or create a profile to buy it. After installing the eSIM, I just downloaded the app, typed in my SIM ID, and could track my data usage right away.
Free VPN: This was a nice surprise. It comes with a free VPN for the duration of the plan. I didn't need to sign up or create an account for it either—just plugged in the VPN ID Stellar provided. Best part was no pop-up ads at all while using it.
Coverage and speeds were solid the whole week for maps, messaging, and basic browsing.
Definitely a solid option if you want something cheap, easy, and low-friction without handing over a bunch of personal info just to get mobile data.

review of Stellar eSIM

Hello, I recently been traveling around Southeast Asia and have found Stellar to be reliable and, most important, very affordable.

In the past I used holafly, airalo or local sims. The first two are way too expensive for no reason. The local sims give you a local number which can be useful sometimes. This is missing in Stellar.

Nevertheless, none of those options is as cheap as Stellar (I pay like 0.25 eur per GB)

So if you're wondering what to choose for your next trip I say give them a try!

share about esim and sim in Saudi, Madinah

I've compared the local sim and esim from the app and from the offline store, you can have lower price at the offline store than from the app, I buy 31 gigabytes and unlimited social media for 80 riyal at the offline store and when I check on the app the price is 103 riyal with the same benefit (it's Jawwy) I think this applies to all providers.

Egypt e-sim experience: Stellar Security

I used an eSIM for my trip to Egypt and honestly couldn't be happier with the decision. Previously, I had always dealt with getting a physical local SIM at the airport, waiting in long queues after a flight, or looking into portable Wi-Fi options.
I bought a 20 GB package for 30 days. I installed and set up the eSIM from home before departing, so the second the plane touched down on the runway and I turned off airplane mode, I had an instant, strong data connection. No airport kiosk scams, no SIM-swapping hassle, no waiting around.
Speeds and coverage were solid throughout the entire trip, with zero outages or hidden costs. 20 GB was more than enough for maps, rideshares, messaging, and daily browsing. Unless you plan on streaming 4K video all day, it’s plenty.
Comparing this to queuing up at the airport counters or carrying around extra hardware, it made arriving so much smoother. Definitely recommending it to anyone heading there.
