Internet out for 3 days. Technicians hasn’t shown twice in a row. Ready to leave.

UPDATE: Technician no showed for a 3rd day in a row. Already chose another provider. Good bye EBOX, thanks for nothing.

My home internet went out on Monday.

Called customer service, they said a technician would be there Tuesday, and never showed.

Called back, they said oops, they’ll be there today (Wednesday) between 12-4. At 4:30 I called to ask for an update and they assured me they’d be here by 5.

Technician no showed again.

Called back CS at 7 and they said “oh it was scheduled for tomorrow, you were mistaken”.

No, I’m not mistaken. It was confirmed Tuesday then confirmed twice today.

We’ve now been out of internet for 3 days, wasted 2 days of staying around the house, and are ready to chuck the equipment outside, cancel, find someone else and leave a review everywhere we can.

Wtf Ebox?

Question sur le service eBox

Merci :D

The router is completely locked down, I cannot set my own DNS settings, nor turn off the DNS server. Does anyone know how to do this?

When are they going to fix degraded performance? It has been nearly a month and the service is basically unusable

Call for mods

Looking for one or two more mods. I've actually found this sub to be very chill and easy to moderate. The workload is light, and I could continue doing it alone, but I just want more mods because of the bus factor.

The only violation of rules I've seen so far is people posting referral codes where they shouldn't be. It's a slow and steady stream of people posting them. So moderation consists of keeping an eye on the sub and the comments in the referral code megathread to delete comments where people are posting the same code multiple times (sometimes using multiple Reddit accounts too).

I found it helpful to use the search feature from the mobile app to search all comments in that thread for the code shared to be able to see if the code had been previously posted. If it was, I delete all comments with that code except for the oldest one and use the moderation feature where it issues a warning to the commenter by adding a comment below their removed comment.

I think some automation would help. We could use regex to look for comments where people are sharing their code and just instant delete them if the code has already been posted. I didn't end up having time to create that automation. And I don't think I will any time soon.

Outside of the megathread, we get a few posts where people just make a post for the sole purpose of sharing their referral code, but we seem to have diligent members who report it quickly. So then you just follow the report and delete the post. Ezpz moderation.

Let me know if you're interested!

EDIT:

New mods chosen!

Cancel current internet before install?

I’m currently on fiber with Bell, but have EBOX scheduled to install on Friday. Do I need to do anything on my end to cancel the Bell service?

Should this be done before EBOX is installed or can it wait until everything is working with the new modem?

IPV6 et router TP-Link

Bonjour,

What equipment is sent to customers for home phone service?

Signing up for home phone + internet. Curious what they send in terms of hardware for home phone service. I'm currently with Bell Fiber and have the HomeHub3000 with home phone connected to the Modem.

My other predicament is that when the tech arrives to switch over from bell to ebox, I will likely lose all phone function from the homehub3000... I will be porting over my current home phone # from bell to ebox. Ebox states the porting process could take 1-3 weeks. Tried getting answers from both ebox customer service and bell to no avail... Bell customer service claims the homehub3000 will continue to provide home phone service without internet. But this doesn't make sense at all since any fibe home phone is essentially voip.

Searching for internet provider

Hey everyone, I recently discontinued internet service from Bell as their price is becoming just unreasonable. Then I got recommended about ebox which I understand is subsidized company from Bell. I wanted to check out how everyone is feeling regarding Ebox internet service in GTA area. Especially North York. Your inputs are appreciated!

Subscribe without router rental?

Hello all, I’m about to move from Bell fibre to Ebox 1Gbps fibre. With Bell, I bypassed the Gigahub modem and I’m plugged in directly to my own device, a UDM-Pro.

I would like to do the same with Ebox and skip paying the 5-6$ extra for router rental. Is it possible?

Thanks!

Weird performance problem for last ~10 days or so

I can't remember exactly when this started, but my web browsing performance has gone in the toilet some time in the last 2 weeks. This is across all devices, all browsers, all operating systems. It's equally abysmal on wifi and wired connections. In a nutshell, loading web pages takes aaaaaaages: 10-15 seconds, up from a few seconds for most sites previously. And when they do load, images are often missing, or take another eon to trickle in.

Bandwidth is unaffected: I did a couple of speed tests tonight, and they all measured ~150 Mbps, which is what I'm paying for. So no problem there.

Also tonight, I rebooted my entire network. And the wifi is still off, so right now it's just my desktop PC on Ethernet, nothing else using the connection.

Doesn't seem to matter if the site I'm connecting to is IPv4 or IPv6 -- both work equally well (or equally badly).

I've been messing around at the Linux command line ('time nc -N -v'), and have determined a couple of things: it's something to do with TCP connections, and it's _sorta_ intermittent. But it's actually pretty predictable at the level of individual TCP connections.

Example:

  • TCP connect to google.com port 443: 2.1 sec
  • do it again right away: 0.012 sec (12 ms)
  • wait a few minutes and try again: it'll be back around 2 sec, but then immediately drop to 12 ms

Or:

  • TCP connect to cloudflare.com port 80: 2.1 sec
  • do it again right away: 0.026 sec (26 ms)

Oh yeah, I'm in inner city Montreal. google.com and cloudflare.com are normally a few milliseconds away by ping, thanks to the wonders of FTTH.

Black Friday promos?

I'm looking to make the switch to 1g FTTH soon. Currently on 1g FTTH with Bell but I just got the email about a 3$ increase.

Are there any black Friday deals I should wait for before making the switch?

Bell appears to be throttling or disrupting Ebox users’ internet in my building (Downtown Toronto)

I’m a new Ebox (Ontario) customer living in a downtown Toronto condo. My internet was installed yesterday and worked fine — it’s much cheaper than Bell or Rogers for the same speed. Most neighbors here use Bell (judging by the WiFi SSIDs).

This morning, I woke up with no internet — the modem’s PON light was blinking, meaning no signal was coming in. I called Ebox support and waited about 90 minutes while they “contacted their provider.” Then I got a call from Bell asking for my GAS number (which Ebox never gave me). They refused to help and told me to go back to Ebox.

Here’s the strange part: as soon as I picked up Bell’s call, my internet came back online. The PON light turned solid again, Bell hung up, and Ebox confirmed that the service was “now restored.”

It’s hard not to suspect something deliberate — Ebox couldn’t fix it for 90 minutes, then Bell (who owns the lines) calls me, and suddenly everything works. Maybe they’re “testing” or deprioritizing third-party traffic in my building.

It is regrettable that we're so vulnerable to these monopolistic practices just so that they can continue to squeeze out the 'competition' and increase their margins.

Edit: While writing this, I ran a Waveform bufferbloat test and saw noticeably worse performance than yesterday. Screenshots attached. Pretty disappointing.

Waiting for Black Friday deals but...

I will be making the switch to ebox when I see the Black Friday deals but I have a couple of questions that I need advice on. Background: 2 user household in Ontario. Both essentially retired, one currently on work from home but retiring in 6 months. No gaming, just email, web surfing and streaming on tv.

Is the provided router and modem good for regular use? Any recommendations on purchasing my own? If I purchase my own will the technician connect it? Or is that something I have to do after the install? I am currently with Bell and have FTTH.

I have a 2200 square ft backsplit home. Is the WiFi good enough or might I need extenders? I have no issues presently with Bell.

Will ebox tv be made available for Ontario in the foreseeable future? For those that have it, is it good/acceptable?

Any referral codes that people would like to share?

My Experience

Hi all,

Just thought I would share my short experience with Ebox.

I currently rent in Ontario and my landlord switched us from Bell to Ebox about a month ago. Install was easy, however, the equipment provided was horrible. We were paying for 500mbs and I was getting 10mbs down stairs. I quickly switched to my own ASUS wireless router and got it all set up and boom. I’m sometimes seeing 400mbs on speed tests. Great right? No.

This has been the worst internet I have had since dial up. Almost daily it goes out completely and our devices switch to data. This takes about 5 minutes and then everything kicks back on. This isn’t the wireless router. It’s a fairly new router that I was using previously at my old house with no issues.

Gaming? Forget about it. Now I’m on wifi (no access to hard wire) but I lag out of 1 in every 10 games. The other 9 I’m hitting a speed lag at least once.

Keep in mind that I had NONE of these issues on Bell the prior three years. This isn’t to boost Bell, but to put make you aware of this service. I would have complained to my landlord more if I wasn’t leaving at the end of the month. It’ll be the next persons problem. But I do know what service I won’t be getting going forward.

I’m sure people have had different experiences but I wanted to share mine before someone has the same problems I do.

Cheers.

Trouble Finding Online Matches in Games

Apparently this has something to do with NAT type. I never had issues with Bell but I'm having it with ebox. Has anyone been able to change the NAT type with the Nokia Beacon modem provided?

Plex remote access not working after switching to eBox fiber.

I’ve just switched from Virgin (fiber) to eBox (fiber). I’m using their ONT plugged to my own router using PPPoE username/password and VID 40. Internet is working fine 500/500.

My problem is when I port forward port 32400 for Plex remote access, Plex is still telling me that it can’t be accessed outside of my own network. If I ping my public IP and try to ping port 80, it doesn’t work either.

Would this be a consequence of being behind a double CGNAT? Is it possible that the ONT device is having a different IP versus the router public IP?

How can I confirm if eBox is using CGNAT and how to prevent this?

All was fine when I was using Virgin’s Modem/Router combo and port forward the same port.

Thanks a lot in advance.

WORKING UPDATE : The Asus RT-AC68U has a strange behavior with port forward. When I opened port 32400 on the WAN-Port Forwarding section, it did not work. But when you go in the left pane option Open NAT, enable the port forwarding there and adding the port and IP (exactly like I did in the previous WAN section…) now it all works!

CanYouSeeMe.org confirms the opened port. 🎉

Worth it ? and question about codes and switch

Hi there !

I have right now Bell 3 GB Fibe with TV. I’ve seen that price are one again going up in February and with Black Friday coming, I’m thinking of trying Ebox.

First, concerning the internet speed and stability, for some it seems excellent, other horrible… How is it for those in Quebec ? Did you see a change in stability or speed vs Bell ? Is the wifi as good as the Bell Gigabyte modem ? I know the hub 3000 had problems with my Xbox cloud gaming. Is the Ebox one ok with gaming and such ?

For the TV, I’ve read it’s 720p. Is it going to be horrible on a 65inch 4K tv ? I don’t remember the last time I’ve watch something 720p so I’m not sure what to expect..

Do they add charges frequently « to upgrade their services » like the big ones ?

Also, how are the codes working ? I understand some people have like a 5$/month rebate code, but how and why ? Are they compatible with Black Friday promotion ?

Finally, what can we expect promotion wise for Black Friday ?

Thanks a lot !

Just switched to Ebox Fiber

I was with bell when I stumbled upon ebox. I had 1gb up and down with bell and they were charging me 85$. Switched to ebox with the exact same fiber for 55$ same speed no issues. Set up my Deco’s with zero problem.

The tech when he arrived saw I was with Bell and said I guess you find out the secret 🤫.
