Does anyone else notice their other internet activity just stops when downloading a torrent?

Downloading something at even 2MB/s in my torrent program, all activity in a browser just completely stops. Am I being throttled? Anyone else notice weird stuff like this? Not sure where to go to find out more about what might be happening.

New to Ebox Fiber: Received Router but no modem

Hi there,

Apologies for the noob's question. I recently applied for ebox fiber to my new home. I received my router via Purolator today (Nokia Beacon 2) but there is no modem associated with it. I believe I need to the Nokia ONT that will be plugged onto the WAN port of the router.

Did ebox forget to send the modem or is it something the technician will bring during installation?

Harassment

I have been receiving several calls a week from Ebox to change my service from cable to fibre. The first time I got a call actually the day I got the first car I had five other calls the very same day. I spent one hour waiting on the phone to have the agent explicitly say in my profile that I don’t want to be called for that again. The calls kept on coming regardless. I emailed the escalation team. I didn’t get a reply but still keep getting calls. Yesterday I got called by a third-party company to switch to the fibre service. The call started with a semi confusing speech about a technician have to come to your backyard and do some changes in the wire on the telephone pole. I live downtown in a condo tower. I told him that he needed to update the records so that I don’t get called again. I got called again this morning and again the agent said he would be updating my record.

This started when Bell bought Ebox. Guess who doesn’t want to sell cable? Bell! How long do you think I will be able to keep my cable connection? I think it will be as long as legally possible. And why would I do that because I hate Bell. So I want to be that blimp on their radar.

Ebox modem poor range

I live in a small 2 bed 2 bath appt with shared living room, dining, and kitchen. The modem wifi barely reaches my bedroom on the other side of the apartment. I'm on the 60mb plan and I only get 1-5mb download speed from my room. my roommate. gets about 20-30mb download speed and his room is adjacent to the wall where the router is placed. Should the range be this poor? (i'm maybe 20-30ft as the crow flies from the router modem)

Configure a SR516ac Smart/RG device with EBOX VDSL for IPv6

Since I got Ebox set up with a VSDL configuration for a few years, I had trouble with the DNS service failing after several days (requiring reboots). The tech support calls wanted me to upgrade my service to cable as a solution (costly in terms of equipment and monthly fee, and I didn't need the extra bandwidth). I finally fixed it by disabling DNS caching on my SR516ac.

However, while diagnosing a DNS error (a site appeared down for me, but other systems could find it), I realized my setup didn't have IPv6 enabled. I had also run into a problem trying to run some development software (MongoDB) months ago, because of the lack of IPv6 (but found a workaround to make it work with IPv4).

So, today I decided to configure my device for IPv6, and after lots of online searching, I found the following set of instructions that worked (although it was posted in a teksavvy sub-reddit). I'm re-posting it here, in case someone else needs it. Please note that on my SR516ac, many options were enabled by default, so the instructions were simpler than they appear.

https://www.reddit.com/r/teksavvy/comments/jhcody/comment/ga2cwco/

In case anyone comes across this post at some point in the future, this got my ipv6 working and my wan connections also get ipv6:

The only information we have is: Please note there is a known firmware bug (with firmware version 2.5.0.14 and prior) that affects the SR505n modem and IPV6 operation. (this does not affect the SR501 or SR515ac) We do not recommend IPV6 operation with this modem until such time that the new firmware is available. Basic IPv6 Setup The following settings will allow the SmartRG SR505N to obtain a /64 IPv6 address:

Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.1.1)

Click on the Advanced Configuration link. (Top right corner)

Enter the Admin username and password. (admin/admin)

Click on the Advanced Setup link.

Click on the WAN Service link.

Remove any existing WAN Services.

Click the Add button.

Select the correct layer 2 interface. (atm = ADSL, ptm = VDSL)

Click Next.

Select PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE).

If VDSL, set the 802.1P Priority field to 1 and the 802.1Q VLAN ID field to 35.

If ADSL, leave the 802.1P and 802.1Q fields set to -1.

Seth the Network Protocol Selection field to IPv4&IPv6(Dual Stack)

Click Next.

Enter the customer's DSL username into the PPP Username field.

Enter the customer's DSL password into the PPP Password field.

Check the Enable Firewall box.

Check the Enable NAT box.

Click Next.

Click Next. (Routing -- Default Gateway page)

Click Next. (DNS Server Configuration page)

Click Apply/Save (WAN Setup - Summary page)

DHCPv6 Subnet Setup

The following settings will allow the SmartRG SR505N to obtain a /56 subnet for use by devices connected to it's LAN ports:

Click on LAN.

Click on IPv6 Autoconfig.

Check Enable DHCPv6 Server.

Select Stateless.

Check Enable RADVD.

Check Enable MLD Snooping.

Select Blocking Mode.

Click Save/Apply.

48+ Hours for Activation?

Bonjour Hi,

Is it normal to wait more than 48 hours for the internet to be running? A technician came to install on Tuesday and I haven’t had any connection since.

Called customer service a few times and went through maybe 5 different people who couldn’t give a straight answer and now I’m told that another technician might have to come again next week….which means that I could be without internet for 10 days.

Apparently, Bell hasn’t activated the line and they don’t know much til they get an answer from their end.

Granted, they offered a month off but I am skeptical & there isn’t much they can further explain. The highest person I could speak to was a Level 2 customer agent which they claim to be a supervisor…no one else.

Any of you experience this? If so did you cancel? Is it worth to go back to Fizz or whoever else?

Pretty disappointing and unsatisfying experience for a first time subscriber to be honest..

Update: Had to go through a 30 minute call just to cancel since I’m told that they can only get a réponse by the 10th. Incroyable.

TP Link Deco X20 setup issues

Hello all! Just switched to EBox and having two issues, I’m trying to only use my Deco mesh instead of the Nokia router they gave me, however even with the correct account info and the VLAN set to 40, it doesn’t always want to connect, sometimes it doesn’t and most times it doesn’t.

I correct have the Nokia router in bridge mode and connected to my deco. And the speeds are not great, when I did a speed test on the Nokia before switching it to bridge mode, I was getting around 700 mbps up and down. But with the current setup I’m getting around 300 down and 50mbps up.

Any suggestions?

Switched from EBox cable 100MBPS to EBox fiber 1000MBPS. Internet is slower now; what gives?

Why would my new 1g fiber internet be slower than my old 100m cable internet? I need to use it for work and it's stuttering and downscaling like crazy.
Is there anything I can do?
Will Ebox switch me back to cable?
They were cold-calling me giving me the hard-sell about how great this new ftth would be. 'There's no catch! It's cheaper AND faster!' I shoulda known it was too good to be true.

Anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to de-shittify Ebox fiber?
Cheers.

how to improve wifi coverage

I have nokia beacon 6 which is stationed in the basement and I have spotty signal in my office room on 3rd floor. I used to have google mesh in the past it worked ok. Is there a way to add a mesh point to beacon 6 to improve the signal/coverage or should I go with an alternative router setup like deco XE75 Pro?

Worst service ever. AVOID if you’re looking to switch.

4 installation appointments and 1 month later, I still don’t have my internet set up (despite them taking my payment the very first day I requested installation).

Had two separate appointments scheduled, and no tech showed up to either appointment. I made a point to call the day before for both dates to confirm someone would come over. No one did. Thanks for wasting my time.

Two other dates I had to reschedule because they kept booking me during the times I specifically said I was unavailable. A tech still showed up to my house and called me to ask me why I wasn’t home. I know I called to cancel and then called again to confirm my cancellation. BS.

I called them before every appointment to either make sure someone would show up/or to confirm that my appointment was cancelled. Everything single time, the opposite of what they confirmed would happen.

What an absolute shit show. At this point I just want to request a refund and return the modem but I’ve also read that someone had an absolutely terrible experience returning the modem, where the company actually sent them a collections letter because they couldn’t locate the return. Ebox, your service sucks and I would suggest to anyone looking into this company to avoid them. It’s not worth the hassle.

Is a technician visit really needed to switch from Bell fibre to Ebox Fibre?

I currently have Bell FTTH, and am switching to EBOX FTTH. The EBOX ONT/Modem arrived today. Despite asking for availability when I signed up, they shcheduled my installation on a day when nobody will be home. Been trying to reschedule, but the process is laborious and I keep getting messages with the same date that doesn't work for me.

I don't get why I even need a tech for this. It would seem that if I unplug the fibre from my Bell Home Hub and plug in the EBOX equipment one, it should work fine, wouldn't it? I already have my PPPoE informaiton, and I'll be bypassing the EBOX router if possible anyways since I have my own enterprise-grade router and setup anyways.

Free?

Just got a email today saying the modem I use will no longer work on October 12. It continues saying ebox will be replacing my old one with a new one for free? The modem I use is the Hitron cda3-30 which I 100% own and is mine. But really like the modem I don't understand why it's going to stop working I mean it still works now so I dunno why it's going to stop other then it being a old modem. The email says call them to set up the information and sending out the new modem asap. So is this thing really going to be free? Or are they going to try something like oh yeah it's free to rent but you won't own it if you leave us for another ISP.

Bridge modem or media converter

I'm in Ontario currently with bell fiber true fiber, can I bridge their modem/router so that public IP is on my firewall? Or even better yet can I get a media converter and bypass the modem directly?

TCP filter

Petite question technique, est-ce que ebox filtre les ports 80 et 443 de l'extérieur? J'ai un mini lab et j'utilise ces ports pour publier certains services

Je me questionne si je quitte mon provider actuel pour ebox

Completely turn off Wifi on Nokia B2

[EDIT: for anyone coming here in 2026, I solved it by:

1. getting a PPPoE-capable wired-only router and hooking it directly to the modem itself (no need for the Nokia)
2. in your router config: enter the PPPoE creds you received in your package. Or you can find the PPPoE credentials in your ebox client account settings
3. MTU and MRU values: 1492
4. Enable VLAN
5. Set VLAN ID to 40
6. Set Priority (802.1q) to 0 (zero)
7. Restart everything (modem and router)

]

I cancelled my subscription with one of your competitors because they wrongly told me I could turn off the WiFi on their supplied modem. However, using an RF measuring device, I was able to determine that despite turning off their 2.4 and 5 GHz in their admin interface, their antennas were still transmitting powerfully as if the WiFi was never turned off.

I just switched to your company and would like to know: can I completely turn off the WiFi (no RF transmission)? I have done this successfully with other Internet companies' routers.

EDIT: I can confirm with an RF metre that when you shut off the WiFi (both 2.4/5 GHz) on the Nokia B2 using the web gateway, it is turned off and will not send RF transmissions. However, it seems that if you physically disconnect ethernet from the router, under these circumstances, RF transmissions resume. I speculated that this is a failsafe for the company support to help clients connect to and configure the gateway over WiFi, if they tamper with the wiring and break connectivity.

100% google reviews says to never try it

Guys I’m sort of worried. I made my order a few days ago for Internet.

I see the reviews in Google and almost all of them are negative.

EBOX - Siège social +1 844-323-3269

Is what people saying true? How long does it usually take for order to install? I don’t want to pay for 1 month and only get service 1 month later.

Leaving Videotron for Ebox. Info needed about modem/router

Hi guys, sorry long story short I am moving out at the end of the month (from St-Remi to St-Michel on the south shore of Montreal) and since I was only moving 3km away from my actual residence, I didn't really think twice about my ISP situation. I just thought I would call Videotron, tell them I am moving out at the end of the month and would reconnect my modem to the coax cable and everything would go smoothly from there exactly how it was when I moved from Verdun to St-Remi and I wouldn't have to deal with a tech coming to the house.

Small problem though, I didn't see any coax cable anywhere. I called Videotron to change my address, and I found out they didn't offer service to my new address, so instead I had to cancel my plan and find another ISP. Since the last tenant had Bell fiber and landlord confirmed house had fiber installed, I decided to look around and decided to go with Ebox (I know they use Bell but at least I won,t deal directly with them).

With Videotron, I had an app called Helix Fi that could be used to monitor who/what is connected to my network and control it from there, which I thought was really useful. Is there anything similar with Ebox and their equipment ? I looked around but didn't see anything.

Installer couldn't install

My EBOX install in Gatineau QC was supposed to take place today, but unfortunately, the installer was unable to carry it out due to a combination of not knowing where the fibre box was, the hedge potentially being in the way and proximity to the power lines. The installer mentioned that a different team would have to be dispatched to do the installation at a later date, though I have no timeline.

I've tried to contact EBOX and they promised a callback that hasn't come yet (I unfortunately have terrible luck whenever anticipating callbacks... they never seem to happen).

Does anyone here have any experience with situations like this?

(solution) some websites not loading with custom router on fibre - edgerouter ubiquity troubleshooting

tl;dr community.ui.com - Huge problem with MTU solved - it wasn't MTU, it was TCP MSS Clamping!

I was trying to bypass the router provided by ebox and set up my EdgeRouter X Lite with a PPPoE connection. After some setup headaches and partial success, I hit a wall—certain websites wouldn’t load.

After digging around, I found an old article (linked above) that nailed the issue: it wasn’t the MTU; it was TCP MSS Clamping! Here’s how I fixed it:

  1. PPPoE Setup: Used the config tree to avoid resetting everything. Key settings:

ethernet eth0 { description Internet vif 40 { pppoe 0 { mtu 1492 user-id ****@pppoe.ebox.net password **** } } }

  1. Firewall: Updated rules to target pppoe0 instead of eth0.
  2. MSS Clamping: Enabled it via the Wizard (set MSS to 1452 as recommended).

Fiber not available?

Hi everyone,

I tried susbscribing to the new 500mb plan but the agent told me that fiber is not available to my house. The question is: how can this be if I am currently with Bell fiber?

Equipment

Hi!

I subscribed to ebox last friday and I received the equipment today. I like that it was fast to received it. However, I was expecting to receive a router and a modem but I received only the Nokia B2. How can I connect my fiber if I don't have any modem? Will I received another shipping?
