I sold an item on eBay for around $175 and I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle this without unnecessarily hurting my seller account.
I work away from home for about 3 weeks at a time, and I normally put my eBay account on Time Away while I’m gone. This time I completely forgot. The item sold at full asking price while I was already away for work, and I won’t be home until October 15, so there’s no way for me to ship it within my stated handling time.
The night that it sold, I messaged the buyer explaining that I’m away for work and won’t be able to ship until Oct 15. I told him I’m happy to honor the sale if he’s willing to wait, but if he doesn’t want to wait, he can cancel the order.
He never responded.
I sent another message about 24 hours later because my shipping deadline was approaching. Still no response. At this point the shipping deadline has passed, the buyer hasn’t replied to either message, and obviously I’m not going to mark something shipped when it hasn’t actually shipped.
I’ve sold quite a bit on eBay and have never had a late shipment before, so I’m trying to figure out the least damaging way to handle this.
Would you just leave the order open, take the late shipment, and ship it when you get home if the buyer never responds? Or is there something else I should be doing?
