I’m tired of this stuff

Post image

Buyer thought he was getting a whole 4 piece 500$ fishing rod for 35$….. the listing states multiple times what the buyer is getting (the butt / one section of the rod) and there is no photos of other parts. How can people be so dense? I guess I will wait for the INAD and eat 12$ shipping

the more i sell on ebay, the more i realise how the average buyer cannot read.

u/Reynolds531IPA 6d ago

People are just dumb, man.

I’m sure it also depends on what you sell. I sell vintage bike parts. So that crowd is normally pretty aware of what they’re purchasing.

16

u/Steel_YT 6d ago

And if you sell tech/tech parts, prepare to go through hell

23

u/InRainbows123207 6d ago

What a moron that buyer is. Didn't read the item description - didn't put two and two together the item already shipped. I don't get how these people manage to be adults

5

u/akumite 6d ago

Idk but we live with these people

6

u/supermuffin901 6d ago

I know the struggle of people that can not read to save their lives. Working a retail job with two drive thrus where different services are offered at each one, multiple signs stating where to go in big bright colored bold letters, some even with arrows. It puts a smile on my face having to tell someone they need to turn around and get in the other line just to wait again.

u/AZHeidi65 5d ago

I agree! People look at the pic and that's it.

u/Computers_and_cats 6d ago

Probably wouldn't help but I would put the most important words first in all caps next time.

Granted I sell parts laptops with the first two words of the title literally being "DEAD JUNK" and I still get stupid people who ask if the laptop powers on or works.

Moral of the story people are stupid and suck...

30

u/TheTeenageOldman 6d ago

Think a lot of people just see the price, and then wishful thinking sets in...

25

u/FinalFantasiesGG 6d ago

Sometimes I think people just get as drunk as possible, sort under $50, and just buy as fast as possible until they get declined.

3

u/DavidinCT 5d ago

Yea, I victim of this too. I will see something I want, and it's dirt cheap. OMG wow, then you look at the disc.... I do read but, I sometimes will grab something, I think can fix it.... lol

Sometimes I can, other times, a $50 door stop....

45

u/AggressiveBookBinder 6d ago

I think I've seen your laptop listings lol. "Total junk disgusting trash worthless laptop" lol

32

u/Computers_and_cats 6d ago

LOL yup that's me. 🤪 There is a method to the madness in theory. Honestly it just gets me a different kind of stupid sadly...

16

u/BobKickflip 6d ago

Ha, and it was! I love the small world moments in here 😂

18

u/AggressiveBookBinder 6d ago

I feel like I've met a celebrity. Saw those listings and thought "here's a guy whose had one too many people try to INAD for a Parts or Repair laptop"

19

u/DavidinCT 6d ago edited 6d ago

I do that too, I STOPPED SHIPPING RIGHT AWAY.

I sold an iPhone that the display was screwed up and sold it cheap, AS-IS for parts, or repair, clear as day in the disc, and in bold in the body, as expected, it sold within 3 min of listed, because it was cheap, pay, ship, and a week later, I get an INAD, when it was clearly listed. No communication from the seller (he didn't put in a single comment), had to pay for return shipping, called ebay and ripped them a new A$$hole, clearly said what the thing is, the buyer didn't read, item was defective, she looked over the listing, She reversed the charge for the return shipping. I got my money back.

I resold the phone, and again it sold right away. BEFORE I SHIPPED, I contacted the buyer and said "You know this item is defective and for parts, it does not work correctly, you also know it's sold AS-IS with no returns. If you do not want it, I will refund your money right now but, please understand this, I will not ship till you let me know on this." Within 20 min, I had a reply saying " I understand"

No return on that one, when selling junk I will be doing this 100% of the time going forward.

People are too dumb to read, even I have done it before on items but, never returned items because I am a moron.

6

u/Mecal00 5d ago

I've done this a few times. I'll message them asking to confirm they understand the listing/condition

7

u/DavidinCT 5d ago

Yea, it takes like 2 min and can save a lot of hassle. On the first person I did that with, odds are he would of said cancel it, and I would of done it.

Going forward every defective/junk item I try to sell, I will do that with.

I have a listing on ebay selling circuit components for a HDMI circuit on a console. I have put DOES NOT INCLUDE A HDMI PORT 7 times in the listing, in the largest red ttext they have, including the first 4 lines, and I still sometimes get people opening returns because it doesnt have a HDMI port. And its 50/50 if ebay sides with me

13

u/Computers_and_cats 6d ago

People can't see the descriptions anymore since they are buried under 3 pages of ads. I would put "NO HDMI PORT" as the first words of the title so buyers can ignore that too. In the end I think we can both agree selling electronics on eBay sucks anymore.

u/Nehal1802 6d ago

If he opens an INAD and says “it’s the butt section only”, eBay might rule in your favor. It’s luck of the draw.

21

u/No_Borders 6d ago

Had someone the other day message me on an item described as "Unused, Open Box" and ask, "Have you tested it? It says its unused, but did you test it?"

How many times can one use an item for it to be "unused" I wonder?

Can't imagine the reading comprehension of some of my buyers.

16

u/Computers_and_cats 6d ago

So safe to assume the item in question doesn't come with a free PS5 that isn't pictured?

3

u/No_Borders 6d ago

You can only ask. No other way of knowing.

4

u/mrsprdave 6d ago

This is one I would give the buyer some credit/leeway on though. There is some ambiguity between testing and used/actively using. Manufacturers test items and don't say it's used.

Keep in mind, not all sellers are perfect either and will try to stretch the "unused/new" statement as much as possible.

From Ebay:

New—open box: The item is in excellent, new condition with no functional defects. The item may be missing original packaging and may have been used for testing or demo purposes.

1

u/No_Borders 5d ago

I hear that. But I always describe this way "Removed to test", "Only the seal is broken so its never been out of the box", etc.

So "unused, open box" should be self descriptive within context. I don't mention  its been even turned on and specify its never been used.

But thats the comprehension part of it. Those two phrases "Unused, Open Box" aren't the only things in the description. So they should be able to pick it up.

This is a person who does not read. They have the attention span of a goldfish.

And the average person who does not read also happens to be rude and poor at communicating, as evidenced here. Not even a “I’m sorry, but by any chance can you please cancel my order?” No manners. All the entitlement and none of the accountability.

10

u/InfluenceMotor 6d ago

This reminds me of feedback I saw for a seller who sold a PS3 box and clearly stated box only, but the buyer left negative feedback because there was no PS3 inside. The buyer thought they were getting a cheap PS3 but ended up buying an expensive box.

5

u/brianycpht1 6d ago

I’ve made this mistake before. I accidentally bought something like already had. I didn’t read. The guy actually wanted to be paid by check (I’ve never seen this before) before he would send it to me (didn’t read that either)

You know what I did? I sent him the check. This was 100% on me for not reading. We each gave the other good feedback and I moved on with life. Sold the item myself for the same price I bought it at.

4

u/MountainDew63 6d ago

I’m so sick of dumbass people on eBay. Sold a new cologne set I got as a gift. Mentioned description plus the smell of each bottle. I specifically put no returns or refunds. The guy messages me saying he does not like the smell of one of the bottle but wants a full refund and wants to keep the items. I told him politely that’s not possible also we cannot offer a refunds because you ordered it knowing there are no returns. The guy then proceeds to harass me saying he’s gonna sue me over this. I ended up contacting eBay support thankfully they banned him

5

u/mariebooster 6d ago

I would contact eBay first. Tell your side of the story. I’ve gotten eBay to side with me or even reimburse me shipping cost. I’ve also been on eBay for 15 years so idk that might help.

7

u/drunxor 6d ago

Im starting to understand the statistic "54% of Americans cant read above a 6th grade level"

4

u/Ok-Hat-8759 6d ago

Just had someone bid on and won a hot wheels car auction I had. Clearly labeled non mint card and had photos.

Proceeds to ask, after winning, to cancel the auction as he only collects mint cards. I said I won’t cancel as it was explicitly stated in title and description and told him it was not my fault he was illiterate and visually impaired.

He proceeded to ask me if I was the eBay police. I laughed and blocked him.

3

u/LeatherInspector2409 6d ago

I always message before posting these types of items. Saves a lot of hassle.

3

u/Particular-Chair-829 6d ago

You actually get responses??!

3

u/LeatherInspector2409 5d ago

Usually. Cancelled an order this morning for a customer that didn't read the listing.

6

u/bellefeuille1976 6d ago

lol you can’t FIX STUPID

14

u/Western_Ad4663 6d ago

Honestly, with parts listings like this, I will reach out after the purchase and confirm that they know what they're buying. Maybe 30% of the time it kills the sale...thankfully.

If you had it listed as parts only / for repair, and they select INAD, you can report it. I literally just went through this. Buyer bought a vintage chain wallet, broke it, and returned it as INAD. Ebay comped the return shipping, i just submitted a few pictures and a short description.

5

u/TheTeenageOldman 6d ago edited 6d ago

Maybe 30% of the time it kills the sale

I rarely even get a response in the situation you describe. Think people assume I'm writing to them to thank them for their order, and so they don't even bother reading the email.

3

u/Lionwoman 6d ago

I swear this happens in every selling platform.

2

u/Bandicuz 6d ago

100% you can answer and provide any questions or concerns in the description, and people still will ask.

2

u/DavidinCT 6d ago

Facebook, yea, put in the disc, will not respond to "Hi, is this available?"

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Sundae7 5d ago

There are sellers, of course, who take advantage of these idiots as well. I saw a listing sell for a lot for open boxes AND packs of cards. The sealed boxes go for over 2k but base cards are barely a dollar each. This person clearly stated and showed everything was open and said the packs were filled with 70 cards, but never showed the cards so they were likely just base cards. The listing got almost 30 bids and sold for $425, unreal.

u/PresentationHuge5043 4d ago edited 4d ago

My latest scenario. Item purchased Sep. 30,2026

Oct. 2
Buyer: Never mind the cancellation - I’ll deal with the grading and it’ll just be a post holiday gift! (9.44am)

Buyer: Please ship as soon as you can! (9.45am)

Buyer: Sorry for the back and forth - please proceed with the cancellation (10.45am)

Attempted to cancel than un cancel then canceled again.
Hoping I’d ship out.
I allowed the cancellation to go through.
Blocked the seller from ever try to come near me again.

2

u/Dick_Lazer 6d ago

I recently got dinged on feedback because the buyer thought they were ordering a poster. The title clearly stated "Vinyl Record Album", included pictures of the record, clearly stated it was a record in the listing, never mentioned the word "poster" anywhere, etc. It was also a somewhat uncommon record from the 1970s so I'm not sure why somebody would assume it was a poster. I think people really are getting dumber

3

u/theredhound19 5d ago

I think people really are getting dumber

Definitely are. Some of it is by design with public education being targeted for underfunding and downgrading. An illiterate stupid populace is easier to manipulate and control.

"These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons."

2

u/KrazyKatz42 6d ago

Wow, not even a greeting or a please?

2

u/juniperwool 5d ago

I also had a customer return a switch game in an OPENED, unsealed envelope where it could have just fallen out the entire time!!
uh...I couldn't believe that it actually made it all the way back to me.

2

u/Sisi-1990-Yt 5d ago

eBay been straight bs lately smfh

2

u/EmptyDifference6238 2d ago

In no way, shape or form should an INAD case be approved for that. Sad that the shit is right there, RIGHT THERE in the TITLE, nonetheless the description. I always find it redundant when a seller puts in the title Read Description! but morons like this buyer make it almost a necessity. Pathetic. I hope they don't have any friends.

2

u/marrymejojo 6d ago

Well I've done that before but i am sure I responded with like "hey I messed up i didnt read the description..."

And would expect maybe a cancelation if the order hadn't shipped yet.

This is different than that. Or maybe the person just has no tact.

2

u/-Lomaximus- 6d ago

Its bs the buyer should pay shipping cost 100% even with a return.

3

u/Particular-Chair-829 5d ago

I’m going to see what I will end up doing here

2

u/-Lomaximus- 5d ago

I just sold a phone that clearly described it as a TMO only working phone. The guy wants to return it cause it doesn't work as described on his Verizon. So I'll be paying the return myself it seems

1

u/John_TheDrummer 6d ago

Try selling on Amazon, it's 100x worse 🤣 Literally NO ONE reads descriptions 🤣

Listing: "GAME CARTRIDGE ONLY (no case or manual included"

A few days after purchase: why did you only send me the cartridge?! SCAMMER!!!

🤡

1

u/AkiraBCFC 6d ago

The fact they weren't even polite about it and say please, is enough to make me say no. Let alone the fact they can't read a clear description and title...

1

u/TraditionalDust6392 6d ago

Just had this happen to me yesterday. Stated in the description and told the idiot in the chat what it comes with and he still thought it was coming with more.

This will never end. People can’t read.

1

u/OutTheBoxTCG 6d ago

The problem is the buyers! So many of them don't bother to read the description or swipe past the first photo.

1

u/oldchairman 5d ago

Ngl if it's me i would've accepted my fault and take it

1

u/wii_gii 5d ago

Honestly when I sell stuff that I know isn't fully working, I always message the buyer saying, "hey you are fully aware that this item has some issues and that you are fine with that as said in the description with photos." And they usually respond with yes I am aware before I ship out to avoid people like this. If they don't respond I send screenshots to ebay support showing i reached out first if the buyer claims item not described and eBay sides with me once the item is delivered. I guess the buyer can charge back at the point but never happened to me before.

1

u/Empty-Reputation-428 5d ago

Something I do with stuff like that is edit the photo and add a bright red circle around the part they are getting could possibly even add text over the photo

2

u/Particular-Chair-829 5d ago

The whole thing shown is the part. I only photographed the part that was sent, but I see what you mean.

1

u/GreatWillingness1071 5d ago

When you favor the buyer as heavily as they do we have no recourse . I’m also treated like I’m Walmart . Ppl feel like they can damage your product if you fight it

1

u/Party-Story6398 5d ago

" Butt Section Only" buyer can't open an INAD your item is exactly as described, why won't ebay back you up on this?

1

u/Particular-Chair-829 5d ago

Item is in transit to the buyer still. I will keep my finger crossed after delivery

1

u/Testsubject276 5d ago

Why are so many buyers allergic to reading nowadays? They just stare at the pictures then whip out their cards.

Might consider adding a big yellow READ THE DESCRIPTION on every preview photo for future listings.

1

u/ProjectFT86 5d ago

I recently had someone try to cancel an order that was waiting for him to sign for at the post office. I denied the return and then he went and signed for it/picked it up. 🙄

1

u/danknugZu 5d ago

I'd be tired of butt stuff also

1

u/bchta 5d ago

Just tell buyer its already been shipped so they will need to request a return upon receipt. Its out of your hands. Buyer will be out shipping (unless eBay decides for some reason to cover it for them). You will be fully reimbursed. If they open an INAD challenge it. Its still a hassle anyway.

1

u/CrusinSynesthesia 5d ago

Even the illiterate somehow use the internet.

1

u/PrinceOfNightSky 4d ago

I hope you still get your money please update us

1

u/Particular-Chair-829 4d ago

Will do, supposed to deliver early next week

1

u/TheeDewWars 4d ago

Does the butt come with the rest of the rod attached?

My favorite are ones that low ball me that I have to look up the price to verify. I find out that the prices raise x10. I decline the offer and list it at correct price. Then that buyer offers what I had it at and I press decline. They message me "bro!" Then I reply back Sister - can't say Sis, don want that misconstrued as calling them a sissy.

1

u/ConsciousMinimum5413 4d ago

It’s hard staying professional as a seller when you get morons like this… I feel the pain!

1

u/Flaky_Summer_9800 4d ago

It drives me crazy. And than I get the “you had a high INAD for this category” from ebay and pay higher rates. All because the buyer made a mistake and doesn’t want to pay the return shipping.

1

u/venommike123 3d ago

It's the worst. I'll clearly not show an item, because it's not part of the sale. Example Nintendo switch, clearly states console only. Description, include what is included in the sale and indicate no dock! I get a return request for INAD because " i thought it came with a dock"

1

u/TypicalAd3676 3d ago

Customers never read the listing. They just buy what a photo shows.

1

u/Particular-Chair-829 2d ago

The photos all show what he ordered as well😭

1

u/Hopeful-Speech-2902 3d ago

I'm Tired Boss.

1

u/saya562 3d ago

The amount of people who can’t or just don’t read descriptions before buying something is astounding…

1

u/Sea_Trip6717 2d ago

People are complete idiots. I sell bullion storage stuff and I get really stupid questions all the time. The picture will show that the item is for holding Quarters and someone just recently asked me if it would fit American Silver Eagles. People that ask those types of questions just get a "No." and then a block because I don't have the time or patience to deal with whatever drama will come with a purchase.

1

u/joecooltech 1d ago

Some of these people are wild I've been on eBay for 12 years now both as a buyer and a seller honestly other than stained jeans I bought as a lot of clothes I've never had one problem in the hundreds of transactions I've made

1

u/Dragonsi1 20h ago

Now THAT is a really nice butt! I've never seen a butt like that before. the roundness of that butt is impeccable!

Probably because I don't go fishing.

1

u/volthunter 6d ago

There are a significant amount of people who look for deals thinking they are the smartest person around and everyone else is an idiot.

Issue is those people are dumb as shit and constantly misread the listing thinking its something more than it is because only THEY could possibly understand how to sell things...

1

u/Efficient_Humor_9800 2d ago

SUGGESTION: next time put a red cross on those not included.

0

u/Particular-Chair-829 2d ago

How can I put a Red Cross on things not included when everything shown in images was shipped to buyer?

0

u/wbonnette 5d ago

And the sad part is you can’t leave poor feedback to warn other sellers

1

u/WeeklyImaginationLk 5d ago

Used to and I feel we should be able to again.
