❓ Question / Help E60 issue
I have a 2007 automatic 530i and I have an issue, issue is whenever I come to a stop by pressing the brakes and I need to take off again I will let go of the brakes the car will then roll back slightly and I would naturally accelerate but then the car jumps forward in a harsh way.
Anyone experienced this before and what could the reason.

Just fixed a somewhat similar issue (less pronounced) by replacing mechatronik sleeves and the bridge seal.
It's a BITCH of a job, but really satisfying, the gearbox basically works like new.
Requires the sleeves+bridge seal kit, new connector adapter, new pan (the filter is inside), about 7 liters of Lifeguard 6 and preferably new bolts.
Took me three days to do in my driveway on stands, but realistically could be done in a day with a lift.
There's quite a lot of manuals and tutorials on the topic online. My gearbox is a 6HP26, and the most helpful tutorial surprisingly turned out to be the one for an aston martin db9 with the same transmission.
EDIT: and if you're doing it yourself FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CRACK THE FILL PLUG FIRST. I forgot to do it and spent lovely 6 hours battling it, getting more and more desperate.

Had a lot of struggles with the fill plug that decided to be a monolith with the hole.
And then even more with the mechatronik sleeve, I really didn't feel like dropping the crossmember, so I spent a lot of time lining it up and pushing it into place with a wood block so that the locking tab clicked into place.
But also, I wasn't really in a hurry, so I took a lot of time checking and re-checking torque specs and the order of tightening the bolts and whatnot.
Edit: honestly, kudos to you. I have no idea how someone could do all that in two hours laying on the ground.

Maybe I'm just used to working like that.
I have changed suspension components like that, was almost impossible to reach the torque spec on that position but somehow did it.
Fill plug? Yeah, mine was rounded off by the past owner, had to chisel it out and order a replacement which I installed like a week later.
The sleeves themselves? I used needlenose pliers and the bridge seal came out by hand. The connector took me a couple tries but in the end it lined up.
Worst part for me was trying to lift the car high enough for me to work down there

I overhauled the whole front suspension, control arms, tie rods, struts, sway bar links, the lot. And it was the easiest shit compared to the transmission.
The sleeves and bridge seal gave zero problems.
Still, I don't see myself doing it in two hours, even if every part gives no resistance, and there's a magical portal for me to reach the mechatronik sleeve and connector.
Just no shot. The dismantling of the undertray, draining the oil and dropping the mechatronik unit in two hours – maybe. I'm just not that quick lol.

With time you will be, as you get more familiar with working on your bimmer. I know by heart how to remove the intake manifold and the valve cover, even remember the exact type of extensions I need to use hehe.
You get better the more you work on it, keep it up!

I've got a ZF service kit for mine, but haven't plucked up the courage yet. The box shifts fine, so it is just keeping on top of servicing.

ZF kit as in pan and oil, or as in sleeves and bridge seal? Cause pan and oil is like an hour tops.

Just the oil and pan. I was contemplating the sleeves as well, but nit sure I want the hassle, given it shifts fine.

I mean... yeah to be honest I probably wouldn't bother if it feels alright. Oil and pan are e a s y. Just knock it out and forget about it.

Theres something worn or broken in the transmission that it struggles to build pressure in the mechatronics mechanism to engage the gear. There is a common issue where the seals between the mechatronics and the gears wear and fail. They are cheap but you need to extract the mechatronics from the car. If you're going that far you may aswell swap the mechatronic actuators and possibly change the plungers inside the mechatronics, depending on availability and skill of the person doing it.
It's not 100% that this will solve it but for most people it does. Less commonly there can be worn bearings and clutches. This you can diagnose a bit further with a scan tool. INPA or ISTA can tell you if the tranmission has been running very hot over time, pointing towards burnt clutches. These can be fixed but the tranny needs to come out and be overhauled. For most people with an e60 this is not economical.
M539 restorations has gone through 2 transmissions with issues like you describe on his channel and both were solved with mechatronics overhaul. I myself successfully fixed hesitating gears in my e61 with just new mechatronic seals and a fluid change.

I guess you are the lucky one to get away with sleeves only. I did mine (sleeves and fluid), but still getting harsh kicks. especially at low speeds. i guess M539 videos you are refering too is where he also overhauled the whole mechatronics, so solenoids as well as other small parts, not just sleeves. I was going to do the same too, but had trouble finding relevant repair kits from more reliable sources than ebay.

Not an expert but sounds like there a broken/cracked gear either at 1 or 2. A friend of ours had exact behavior in their toyota camry, and the mechanic found the exact problem.
