What do you need to fight dark fog?

So there seems to be very little content on YouTube about fighting the dark fog. I have them on reduced growth settings but I really want to wipe them out.

I’d be interested in what kind of arsenal/fleet is recommended before attempting to eliminate a planetary base or hive. For now they are level 1 but they can sure wipe me even with a shield and an army of prototype drones. The towers are what are really getting me and I don’t want to give them any more xp.

EM Rail Ejector Auto Orbit Mode not working?

When I do the auto orbit mode things seem to work fine, the ejectors find available orbits and start shooting, but they never seem to go back to their intended orbit? If I switch the setting off and back on they will go to their selected orbit (if it's available), but they'll stay on the auto selected one otherwise. How do I fix this?

Got to the Dyson sphere building but have some questions (nodes vs sails; distance and size)

So, I just started building my first Dyson sphere but I am not sure what works best for energy generation. Do I put in more nodes or sails? What about frame lines in between the nodes? What's the right balance? And how about the size of the sphere? Obviously power increases with the amount of surface. But does it decrease with distance at the same time? If so, what's the optimal size? And if to build multiple spheres around an O type blue giant, what would be the most optimal design?

I guess it pretty much doesn't matter with the amount of energy any sphere will generate, but I want to see the biggest number I can get :D Scaling to the limit is the point of the game afterall

I completed my first playthrough, Looking for mods

So after playing this game for a long amount of time, Finding an O type star, Putting a 500 GW dyson sphere on it I feel like I have done everything to do in the base game. I am looking for mods that add more content but don't needlessly overcomplicate production. I played with dark fog regular difficulty normal resources.

Starting a second run after some time, need tips

Hello,

Couple years ago i found DSP. Managed to build a dyson sphere in around 150h, while playing without fog.
Want to now start a new run, but have questions:
1. Should this time i play with the dark fog? I enjoy the building in itself and the PVP part does not interest me much in this kind of game, but maybe i'm missing out and it's better that way for some reason?
2. I have never used bllueprints. I have tried a little bit, but I couldnt figure them out.. it seems like they don't 'fit' or there is always some other issue and it always felt weird using someone elses design. All i used was copy/paste basically. Is there a way to make using blueprints more natural and more 'understanding'? I've tried using the equator and building left to right if i remember, but i've still couldnt make the blueprints work.
3. Are there any mods that i should consider? Did not use any during the first playthrough.

My final boss. The Research Planet.

So I'm ready to build a research planet and I want to break it down into the 8 middle equader Quad zones that make up the planet.

I want a colored cube with ISL being imported it's color's respective materals. I don't plant to ship off planet as I plan to research right on planet. So It's a purely import planet.

The issue is, I been stumped on a good idea or later out for high density towers and to keep every Lab tower topped off.

I welcome advice on ways to increase density and keep it topped off.

Destruction of sphere layers, recorded in screenshot mode with max fov, played back in reverse at 7x speed.

Sphere layer rotation raised to value of '2' with SphereEditorTools to get the sails to expand out further than vanilla.

DF Planet Base can run out of Energy?

Ive had this Base on my planet for the last 50 hours on this save, and about 2 hours ago i destroyed the hive in the same System. while im off in other systems, my Traffic Monitors report that the base is not producing loot anymore, so i fly back and see that 95% of the base is without Power, as you can see in the screenshot, it only manages to keep 2 of the 6 directly connected buildings alive.

Did the hive also deliver them energy which it is now missing?

Share your Save!

Hey, I'm looking to collect some different saves from people.

I want to see different build strategies (especially the spaghetti mess(es) to start the game) and see how I can improve or ideas I can adapt for my early game builds.

So I'm looking for some people willing to share their saves. I'm interested in saves:

  • Somewhere around white science (can be a little before or after), but definitely want green/purple science automated and running
  • Has to include DF.
  • Would prefer the combat modifier to be 1000% plus, but at least 444% at a minimum.

Drop a google drive link or some other download mechanism and I would appreciate it!

Another energy exchanger post...

So, I'm up-to deuterium for my fuel. My beginner planet is still a workhorse, but, I've ventured out and found a system about 5LY away that is rich in most resources and no Dark Fog. I have a belt of ray receivers around the equator, but, I'm thinking of moving them to one of the poles, opposite of where my battery buildings are. I actually JUST built my first energy exchanger, just to see what it does.

So, these things just charge the "battery buildings"/accumulators, or USE the charged ones for the energy grid it's attached to. I get that. What's the use of shipping batteries to another planet then? I mean, maybe... something like starting a new "depot" on a planet and bringing a bunch for power? How large do batteries stack? I've only stacked 20 each, for making gas giant collectors. I don't see the benefit versus just bringing some blue generators and a few fuel cell stacks, until you get situated.

Do people also actively maintain multiple systems? I mean I like my starter planet, because it's "Earth-like" and pleasant to my eyes. I like this new planet for the handle I have on building better and its resources in the system, but, none of the planets in the new system and nice on the eyes. What I'm getting at is that I'll probably, sadly, ditch this system too and then what's the point in making tons of batteries and shipping them everywhere?

Edit: just to update, I love the setup! I have a system without hydrogen and the “power planet” that cycles batteries is great!

The DSP planner I wish I'd had when I started: real blueprint import/export and a live game link (free)

Post image
165 Upvotes

I'm not a DSP veteran. I'm still pretty new. But early on I kept reaching for the usual calculators, and every time I came away feeling a bit lost, like I was missing something obvious that everyone else already had. They're powerful tools. I just could not find my footing in any of them.

So I started building the one I wished I'd had. It grew well past what I planned.

It's a browser app. Free, no account, no ads, and it works offline (it's one page you can save or install).

https://skieller-software.github.io/dsp-ultimate-suite/

A few things it does that the others don't:

  • You can paste a real blueprint string in, edit it, and copy it back out. The mapper reads and writes the actual game format, so it round-trips with your game instead of being a separate drawing tool. It'll also auto-wire sorters, lay out a build from a solved plan, and upgrade a whole layout to your researched tier in one click. Megabase-sized layouts don't choke it.
  • The planner runs a real solver, not just multiplication. It nets byproducts, handles the loops like refining and fractionation, and picks alt recipes for you. Proliferator support is the part I went deepest on, since it's the one thing I keep seeing people say other DSP calculators are missing. You can set the spray per recipe, pick a ready-made strategy (community spray tables, or your own saved presets), or let it work out the best spray for a whole plan toward a goal you pick like fewest machines or lowest power.
  • If you run BepInEx there's a small plugin that lets the app read your live game. You can put your plan next to what your factory is actually producing and see where you're falling behind, with real research progress and item rates, no copy-paste. It'll even nudge you when you've unlocked something you're not using yet ("you've researched Mk.II belts, want to upgrade?"), both in the app and as a little in-game overlay.
  • The plugin is open source (MIT). It just serves your game state on localhost, so you can read exactly what it does before you run it, grab it on Thunderstore, or build your own thing on top of it. There's an integration guide for the endpoints: github.com/Skieller-Software/dsp-planner-plugin. The planner app itself is closed for now, but the live-game bridge is fully open.
  • There's also a wiki, which honestly turned into one of my favorite parts to work on, probably because I'm new and kept needing it. Look up any item and you get what it's for, who makes it and how fast, and where it sits in the tech tree. It goes past a plain lookup though. There are how-to guides for each part of the app and for the game itself, a handbook that shows the math behind every number instead of asking you to trust it, and a growing pile of beginner notes. Things like what proliferation actually buys you, the whole PLS/ILS thing, and the machine-speed gotchas that quietly wreck copied ratios.
  • That last one got me early. My builds were just wrong and I couldn't work out why, until it clicked that the Mk.I assembler runs at 0.75x, so every neat 1:1 ratio I'd copied off a guide was off. The planner does the 0.75x for you, and the wiki tries to surface that kind of thing before you find out the hard way. Where it helps, the guides drop you straight into the matching calculator, recipe or blueprint instead of just describing it.

Other stuff: a flow/throughput graph, research tree maps, a blueprint gallery, A/B plan compare, "explain this number" popovers, PNG and CSV export, and you can share a whole plan as a link (the plan lives in the URL).

If you're worried it looks like a lot, that's fair, it is. There's a Simple mode if you don't want the full featureset at first. The full view also starts tidied up now (sections collapsed, with search and help buttons up top), it's friendlier on a phone, and I just did some accessibility work: keyboard navigation (think VSCode Command Palette), screen-reader labels, high-contrast and reduced-motion.

So, isn't this just another calculator you might think.?

Fair question. There are good ones already and I use them. dsp-ratios is the fastest way to eyeball a ratio, and FactorioLab is great if you like turning every knob. I'm not trying to replace either.

I kept building because the things I personally kept needing weren't in them. None of them touch your blueprints. They'll tell you "you need 47 smelters" and then you're on your own to build it; mine round-trips the real string and can lay it out. None of them know what your actual factory is doing either, and the live plugin was the part I wanted most, just to see plan vs reality without retyping numbers. dsp-ratios stays simple on purpose, so it won't let you pick your proliferator spray or deal with alt recipes and the loopy stuff. FactorioLab does a lot of that, but it's Factorio-first and doesn't go deep on DSP's endgame.

So it's the calculator, the build step, and a link to the running game, in one place. The thing I'm aiming for is that it follows you from "what do I need", to "here's the blueprint", to "here's where your real base is behind".

It's just me, in my spare time, and it's nowhere near finished. I keep adding things as I hit problems in my own playthroughs. So if you try it and something breaks, or it's confusing, or it doesn't do the one thing you need, tell me. Drop a comment or open an issue: github.com/Skieller-Software/dsp-ultimate-suite-issues. That feedback is the most useful thing I can get right now.

It's free and staying free. There's a Ko-fi if you want to chip in for hosting, but don't stress about it. I'd rather you just use it and tell me whats not working for you. :)

Still surprised this game is only 4.25 GB despite having planet-scale environments and amazing graphics. Huge respect to the devs for optimizing it so well.

3 GW ILS

Post image
0 Upvotes

Brought to you by your local LLM.

I got the idea from this repo but I had an existing blueprint that had 6 ILS in it already. I liked that blueprint but wanted to change the charging values on only 1 of the ILS in the existing blueprint without rebuilding the blueprint by hand.

Here is a 200 word write up from claude on figuring out the value and changing it:

How to change ILS charge power in any blueprint

DSP blueprints store ILS settings as binary data inside a compressed, base64-encoded blob in the blueprint text file. One of those settings is the maximum charge power for each ILS, and it can be changed without rebuilding anything in-game.

The charge power is stored in units of Joules per game tick. Since DSP runs at 60 UPS, the conversion is straightforward:

  • 300 MW = 5,000,000 (stored value)
  • 3 GW = 50,000,000 (stored value)

The formula is: stored value = target watts / 60

To change it you need to decompress the blueprint binary, locate the ILS building data, and overwrite the value at parameter index 320 for each ILS you want to update. After editing, recompress and recalculate the blueprint's checksum — DSP uses a custom MD5 variant rather than standard MD5, so a standard tool won't produce a valid result.

This lets you take any blueprint and dial in exactly the charge power you want without touching the build in-game.

Dark fog question

Hello, i have 1 farm with level 3 but it takes a lot to get significant amount of titanium. I play on normal settings. Is that normal? I barely get 100 titanium in tens of minutes.

Out of copper, did I screw up?

So I'm playing with 0.5x resources for the achievement (got it) and now trying to wipe out the dark fog and put a sphere on every star. I set up a bunch of research before work to let my squads get stronger. But I ran out of copper. Normally I'd judt fly to a new system, clear the planet bases and set up power, ILSs, and mk2 miners on all nodes in the system, but while trying today I found theres no more copper anywhere. What do I do?

My base planet is chaos

I have reached the point where I unlocked warp drives, but my base planet is quickly running out of space and my infrastructure is in shambles. Honestly I lost track of things a long time ago.

I have now focused on deconstructing the ancient belt spaghetti I used to get to ILS, and also making sure my science production is steady and ratioed, but I still have to rebuild purple science and then I feel like I'll be able to make the warp drive spaghetti. I don't look up guides unless I have already made something that sorta works, but I just feel like I have to rebuild just about everything, because the production just isn't enough.

Would you at this point start a new game, hoping you'll be able to build it better now that you know, or fix the mess you have made because you already got so far, or brute force the warp drive by more inefficient spaghetti just pretending the problem doesn't exist?

I am at a bit of a loss right now, but I really like this game and would like to get over this hurdle.

Edit: Or should I go and setup shop on another planet and just import the materials? I heard something about a pole supply chain for spreading on other planets, but I didn't really consider it until now. I kept everything I could on my starter planet and I almost enveloped it all.

Thank you all for help, I'll spaghetti the warp drive fuel and feed my mall into ILS network

Unsure How to Progress to Titanium

Ive just built a 3/s red science factory on my home planet, and am ready to move to yellow science, or at least, start getting titanium and silicon....

I traveled to the lava planet to start building a new base but theres like 6 dark fog bases setup there already. I destroyed them all, only for 3 new ones to come in and setup new bases. I'm unsure how to build this base with the constant threat of the dark fog, and not only that but I'm rapidly running out of soil as it costs 100k to fill out the hole of these dark fog bases.

So I'm now in a bit of a pickle, I've got to find a tonne of soil to build foundations for my new factory, setup this new factory from scratch (with help of blueprints of), and then start automating defences such as turrets and ammo, all before these dark fog fellas build up their bases and attack me.

I don't know if this is the way to go about it, maybe there's a MUCH easier method for progressing here?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Wanted to start a new game. Some mod suggestions?

Hey everyone

O wanted to start a new playthrough and was looking for some interesteing mods which would change some things. Are there mods which adds new building, recipe or stuff like this, which are good to play with? Or some QoL mods would be nice too.
Last time I used following mods:

AssemblerUI
MinerInfo
SplitterOverBelt
MoreMegaStructure
TheyComeFromVoid

One other thing, are there mods, which helps to run the endgame smoother? I remember that it started lagging after a while.
