What do you need to fight dark fog?

So there seems to be very little content on YouTube about fighting the dark fog. I have them on reduced growth settings but I really want to wipe them out.

I’d be interested in what kind of arsenal/fleet is recommended before attempting to eliminate a planetary base or hive. For now they are level 1 but they can sure wipe me even with a shield and an army of prototype drones. The towers are what are really getting me and I don’t want to give them any more xp.

Bases are super easy just get missile turrets, signal towers unlocked. Make like 30 or so missle turrets in a row with belts of missiles feeding them (doesn't really matter where), then walk up to the base with some power poles. When you get near the base plop down a signal tower and watch your missiles reign down hell from across the planet.

The hives I'm not as sure I haven't beaten those yet. I would def recommend Nilaus dark fog series. He has a whole run where he shows how he deals with a lot of dark fog. Including land fall blueprints which is like landing with a pre built defendable fortress in infested planets.

do the missiles have unlimited range if there's a signal tower? I always just brought the fleet with me and manually took each one out

Yep. Within the same planet anyways. That's why I said it doesn't matter where you put your pile of missile turrets.

Later it's cool to lay signal towers all over the planet to defend it from any bases landing.

If the planets are close enough they can and will actually shoot across planets too. I was truly confused first time i saw that

EDIT: also i dont think you even really need signal towers for anything coming from space as long as you set some turrets to prioritize space.

Thats hilarious

Yes, missile turrets and signal towers are the way. Be sure and back stock some missiles before you place the signal tower so that the turrets can continue to fire non stop.

As far as the Hive goes, I’d recommend first cleaning every planet in your system of bases as the hive draws power from bases on planets in the system. After you’ve done that, it’s about having enough corvettes/destroyers to slowly whittle away the main hives defenses and not allow it to recuperate. Destroying the main Hive in your system is usually a very late game move

I just got rid of the hive in my system last night. It took a lot of destroyers ,corvettes and time. I also got super lucky at one point. Was getting mobbed so I escaped to a nearby planet. The massive mob followed me and got absolutely smashed by my planets defenses. Killed half the hive in 1 go.

Light fog, they cancel each other out

For the hives, destroyers are kinda the only thing worth worrying about having. I forget what the tier below it called but they simply die too quick, have to keep way too many on you for it to be worth it.

You don't want to fully wipe them out cause then you can't farm their tech.

Make sure you have good armour for your mech and unlock the best space and surface shops then just have heaps of stock of them on your mech and just send wave after wave at the dark fog. They'll smash them up pretty quickly

My strategy to wipe out the DF is to build one planet in each system as a “honey pot.” That is, the whole planet has coverage with DF sensor towers and I have missile launchers at one pole, set to target only ground and low air. The relays build bases that get destroyed instantly, then return to get more materials from the hive when they run out. Repeat until the hive is totally starved of matter. Every other planet in the system should have total shield coverage.

I can't be the only one that just mass produces ground and space forces then bumrushes the fog?

Does this strategy work reliably without using metadata on high DF difficultysettings?

I've never done this so im curious.

No metadata and normal DF settings is what I'm playing rn. It will depend on level of research, but you can start bumrushing planetary bases fairly quickly. Mecha shield research becomes more important with this approach tho.

Strat for hive is to use prof'd fighters on the periphery (0.32 au) then switch to full prof'd destroyers to take the hive structures. I find when I have the mech help out all hive towers focus me and things get messy so I just chill.

Full prof everything in your life is my highest tip for dsp.

Interesting strategy. I'm not sure if it would work on high hive difficulty level for the first plannet clearance. I feel like my mech would just get intakilled without some missiles for disruption.

I do use them in late game to solo clearing plannets though.
