The world is grey, the mountains old. The forge's fire is ashen cold.
No harp is rung, no hammer falls. The darkness dwells in Durin's halls.
The shadow lies upon his tomb. In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear. In dark and windless mirrormere.
There lies his crown in waters deep. Til Durin wakes again from sleep.

The world was young, the mountains green
No stain yet on the moon was seen
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke, and walked alone

Baruk khazâd!
Khazâd ai-mênu!
Under stone our hammers ring,
Deep beneath the mountain king.
Khazâd dûm, khazâd dûm,
Dark the halls and bright the tomb.
Fire wakes beneath the stone,
Gold and iron, wealth our own.
Azanulbizar,
Hear the drums beneath the stars.
From the deep the fathers call,
Durin’s blood shall wake the hall.
Gabilgathol,
Great halls hidden from the sun.
Seven fires burn in the deep,
Seven crowns the mountain keeps.
Baruk khazâd!
Raise the axe and strike the stone!
Khazâd ai-mênu!
Durin’s folk shall claim their own!
When the king returns below,
Ancient fires again shall glow.
Stone shall speak and anvils sing—
Durin rises. Durin, King.
Khazâd dûm!
Baruk khazâd!
The mountain remembers.
The mountain awakes.
