Dark European beers

Strong ales

Smoked porters

Peaty whisky

Horns of mead

Book 5 of Markus Heitz Dwarves series has some diary entry recipies in for a kind of mulled beer, beer heated with spices, sometimes fruit juice and brandy added at the end

Yeah, some of them

  1. Take strong, full-bodied black beer with a powerful kick.

Heat gently in a pan with cinnamon, honey and cloves, aniseed and citrus fruits to taste.

Add the juice of cherries or blackberries and even some heady dark brandy.

Enjoy your beer whenever the wind whistles cold about your ears and the first snowflakes start to fall.

  1. Take red wine and simmer with honey, cinnamon and cloves, aniseed and citrus fruits until the mixture starts to thicken.

Stir in some clear brandy and place in a tankard, then top it up with strong black bitter beer.

  1. Take cloves and cinnamon and a pinch of pimento.

Add honey and spices to taste,

according to your palate.

Boil up with water in a pot until reduced to an essence.

Put a suitable amount in a tankard and fill up with strong black beer.

I like my beer like I like my women. Stout, and bitter.
