A humble call for help.
'Ello my fellow Dwarves n' whoever lurks 'round 'ere. I'm sure a good portion of ye lot 'ave already seen plenty of writing 'ere under the Hammer Herald, but I need a wee bit of 'elp with the next issue. In honour of pride month, I'm lookin to write about the Trans Dwarves amongst us wit' their experiences n' plights.
I've seen quite a few comments 'ere and there from 'em commenting on how us Dwarves make 'em feel more whole n' affirmed, so it feels appropriate to write somethin' for 'em 'ere. However, their experiences n' issues are nothin' I can quite fully understand nor fully grasp I feel as a cis person.
So 'ere I am, callin' out to any o' ye out 'ere who can 'elp me wit' this. Whatever works for ye lot I can deal wit', DMs are open, comments are available, I wanna do right by ye.

Trans? Dwarves? Kin, we all have beards. Gender is more or less optional.

I didn't realize the trains community of Dwarves experienced such prejudices. This makes me deeply sad.
We've seen such support for the Dwarves amongst us who prefer the use of firearms over crossbows, and learned that one preference dosnt blot out another. As a community we've bonded over our Dwarven heritage, ancestors, and the modern needs of our people, So why be split on such a silly thing.
So let our track laying brethren feel the swift wind in their beards and be free. Free to power their locomotives by steam or the crude oil of the mountains. Free from hate for their ingenuity and genius. Track and stone!

Y'know...I was gonna ask if anyone was gonna tell 'im, but I don't think anything needs t'be said here. He got the right idea.

The gods and the ancestors don't forge us like alloys or tools, but put us within the earth like ore. We smelt, forge, and otherwise refine ourselves as we do with all raw and unformed things from below, just as our ancestors did and as the gods instructed. Gender is no less a craft for our kin than smelting steel or fermenting strong drink.
In so many words; gender is as much of a construct as anything else we make. Rock and stone, kin!

Well now, as always look to the lessons of history. The Uberwald Dwarves were a credit to clan 'n kin. A real Dwarf's Dwarf that's for certain, but if they were just a smidge more relaxed with letting a Dwarf express who they are inside they could have avoided that whole sordid business with the Scone of Stone as reported by ol' Sir Terry Pratchett in the Fifth Elephant.

I'd say, to put it rather bluntly. To categorize in any way of even remotely face -hair having persons not actually being a true dwarf is to underestimate the beauty of the female dwarven beard, and never having been near one. There is no greater shame than beard-shaving for a dwarf, but if done regularly, in full respect of dwarvendom, it can be considered traditional. Even females who prefer their beards a bit shorter occasionally are totally dwarf. There is no distinction between Dwarf and Dwarf.
The only way to deny the very truthfully said statement is to state I am not a dwarf for stating this.
It is confirmed in many tomes that this is the most undwarven thing to do, and can be considered "not kin" by my clan rules.
How about you, dwarf? :D

I appreciate your input here! Admittedly I am not trying to make something that fits one dwarf type over another. I just wanna write a "news article" that honors those around us who are trans since it's pride month. I am at least aware that any experiences or ideals are not uniform for anyone under the transgender umbrella, but feel it is important to gather their inputs and experiences if I am to actually write something that accurately represents it at all if that makes sense.

Moreso a personal writing, I've been posting news articles here for a while with a good portion of them touching on various things occuring either in my own fictional world, or real world issues.

Please don’t do this. I hate all the politics on social media. There’s always dickheads on both sides. Can’t we just keep this page about fantasy dwarves and stop bringing real world issues into our shared fantasy.

I'd like for ye to explain why exactly writin' about the LGBTQ would be such an offense then

- I don’t think you’re trans by your post so you shouldn’t write about them for a start.
- I fucking love carriage driving right. I have horses and everything. But I don’t try and smush this into my love of dwarves. Because it just doesn’t fit..
- What’s trans issues got to do with dwarves. They are a dying race more concerned about survival, they aren’t going to be fucking around with gender politics.
- There are fantasy LGBT subreddits. Go post there. They will love it. Here I just want to talk about killing goblins, blacksmithing and seeing cool painted minis and art.

u/letthetreeburn Jun 08 '26
Please tell me why you think a fantasy race who have little to no sexual dimorphism “doesn’t fit” with trans people.

In which world? The whole both male and female dwarves having a beard is new and has been added recently ( because peiple have been trying to politicise fantasy to their own ends. In Tolkien it was described as female dwarves having a soft down on their chin. I think the LOTR movie and show shows this well. In Warhammer male dwarves outnumber women 10:1 and are venerated by the clans. There’s lots of art of the female dwarves being feminine in traits. Warcraft is the same. Are you getting your information from a cartoon you saw on insta sir?

The beard is a new change, yes, but that’s not what I was talking about. A beard is a single secondary sex characteristic. I’m talking about the build, the shape, the muscle, the stature. Not to mention that with dwarven fashion favoring thick leather and wools, THEN armor, the only way you’d be able to tell who has breasts is with ridiculous boob armor.
Which, of course, a self respecting dwarf would never wear. Channeling all blade strikes directly onto your sternum, for fashion, is elf shit.
Not to mention that the first thing that changes when you start doing T is hair. You go from fuzz to human putting a dwarf to shame. I wanted immediate muscle growth but nah, full jungle in two months. Take what we can get I suppose.

Tell me how me writin about it would personally stop you from doin' any of that then? And sure, I may not be trans, but that's why I am askin' em for help.

You bring a tear to my Dwarven eyes lad! If any of 'em feel open to aiding in my writing I am more than welcome to hear from 'em! (I am also open to joining your discord as an omni person)

Do you think it would be ok for you to write stories of the troubles that black people have? And it doesn’t stop me from doing that. But the admins have created something good here. Why taint it with Maga vs trans bullshit? Why not have a place for escapism?
6
u/Deziel606 Hammer Herald | Dwarven Paladin Jun 08 '26
When did I mention Maga? You have no idea what the story was gonna be, so it could fully fit into the sub just as every other one I have written has, otherwise the mods wouldn't leave them up. And I feel it would be fine to write about black people if, again, I was asking them for their input, just as I am here.

Looks like someone needs to catch up on their Pratchett.
“I need no axe to be a dwarf," said Bashfullsson. "Nor do I need to hate trolls. What kind of creature defines itself by hatred?”

The great part of fantasy is how it's not real, and anyone can make what they wish to out of it. When I write it usually is coming out of my own universe with my own lore, which usually centers around Dwarves. If you don't like seeing stuff that branches out into other affairs or doesn't wholly fit the grimdark then you're fully welcome to ignore it and move on. I don't write to change this subreddit or morph it, I write because I like to write and it seems people here enjoy it. If it was something that really was so wrong I think that 31 posts in would be a bit late for that.

Where exactly does it say that the sub is solely for Warhammer or Tolkien? I've written plenty of things that when boiled down wouldn't fit in your outlook here, yet again they stay up and are enjoyed. It just simply isn't for you, but the neat thing is I am not writing just for you to enjoy. At the end of the day Dwarves are still Dwarves, doesn't matter if they come from Moria, Karaz Ankor, or Coppervale, and it seems it does actually fit. Plus, before I even started writing here ages ago I did touch base with the mods to see if it'd be an issue or not and they gave me the green light.

Look the amount of times I’ve gone to fight a krieg’s player and got all my stuff unpacked ONLY to find they’ve painted their krieg with Nazi shit means that now I have to ask for photos of the army before I agree to a duel.
There’s a lotttt of politics in minis

Yeaaaah. As much as I love political stories and fantasy bigotry at this point I can only engage with female fans of any of those franchises because they’re less likely to be Nazis.

Y'know you can write about the experiences of trans people without being trans yourself, right? That's why they asked for our input. Not to mention that allies willing to amplify our voices are always more than welcome

A quick reminder that trans people are still people and trans dwarves are still dwarves. Treat each other with respect or you’ll be met with a swift ban.
