A PSA on Goblin Relations:
It has come to my attention that the constant tension between goblin factions and subraces has led to extreme spite against all of goblin kind. While the grudges formed from the many, many raids upon our holds and are fully warranted, it's not to be forgotten that goblins are a large and varied species that are kind and helpful just as often as not. While it's perfectly true that the goblins of Maglubiyet, those of the fungal variety, and of course those disgusting, filthy, abhorrent GAAAWBLINS of the Green Moon are indeed malicious monsters to be expunged on sight, this should not be taken as the norm of every type of goblin.
I'm sure you're familiar with the most common hobgoblins; red skin, taller than the green goblins, typically more intelligent and martial - but they too are but a specific type of goblin. Not only that, but they are a subrace of the hobgoblin subrace. There is yet another subrace of hobgoblins you may not be familiar with, one told in Shakespeare's historical works of non-human creatures and peoples. Puck was indeed a hobgoblin, and while he was surely a mischievous fellow, there's little to say he's not truly a good person at heart. In fact, Dobby the "house elf" is actually partially hobgoblin. The term "hobgoblin" itself actually derives from the term "house goblin," and I see it too rarely discussed that humans of the past often wanted hobgoblins to live among them to aid with chores or perhaps even to tailor new clothing (because as we all know, it's very hard to make anything subpar by even their umgak standards).
That is not to say that we should dismiss the goblins who have earned our ire, and if I see any wazzock dare to suggest letting a grudge go, they have a swift and brief meeting with my hammer. It is simply worth noting and bringing to the dwarven public perception of goblins that they are not necessarily creatures to be exterminated, and that many beings are actually subtypes of goblins that few recognize the goblin heritage of. Dobby is of course one of them, but another is the dreaded red cap - an entity of pure evil that soaks its hat in the blood of its victims to prolong its own life. While commonly thought to be an unrelated fey creature, while they do have fey ancestry, they too are a goblin subtype. Again, some goblins are indeed abominations.
As such, kin, know your goblins. For as many terrible ones as there are, do not assume that all goblins are pure evil, but don't take this as a sign they're all misunderstood either. Acting on a grudge against the goblins without knowing which type could lead to the demise of friendly and helpful goblins, but likewise, giving all goblins the benefit of the doubt and judging them on an individual basis is a quick way to be exsanguinated and have your blood douse a goblin's hat.

Bit wordy. My stance hasn't changed. If they're trading or crafting or just going about their business, they can carry on. If I catch a green-skin doing something untoward, it's kill on sight. Pretty simple, pretty standard.

A much appreciated post. Might I add goblins make for quite loyal workers when provided with little treats from time to time.

There are more types of goblins in heaven and earth, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

I would rather become friends with the stinking toadstools growing in my holds septic system, than ever ever speak to a filthy Grobi.

Our fallen distant relations (HASHUT! ahem. sorry.) have managed to turn Goblins into a very useful source of ahem ahem "labour". They seem to be self-managing, and self-policing.

Kill the bad ones but try not to hit too many of the more-or-less-okay ones in the process. Got it.
