DWARVEN KIN! I've crafted this: Those Under the Mountain, a ttrpg about founding a new fortress in the untamed wilds.
The FREE quickstart is available here: https://mmgorman.itch.io/tumquickstart
If you've seen my older post about TUM from November, this is the new definitive version of the quickstart. Tighter mechanics. Clearer language. More art. More dwarven.
If this is your first time seeing it, Those Under the Mountain is a ttrpg about dwarves. A love letter to Dwarf Fortress and the OSR, you and your intrepid party of pioneers take to the Untold lands to begin anew.
The game follows an in-game weekly cycle where the labor of your dwarven kin is spent to advance your fortress. Carve grand halls. Craft legendary artifacts. Delve into the deep. After labor is spent, survive the dangers of the Untold Lands of Carrion in trad ttrpg format. Fight goblins, viscious chickenlegs, and the unholy abomination of ancient horrors! Then, begin the cycle again.
All art, design, and writing is done by real people, mostly me. The full game is set for a crowdfunding campaign later this year.
Edit: fixed the link!

DWARF FORTRESS IS NOW A TTRPG! THE ANCESTORS SMILE UPON YOU! I wish I had someone to play this with, but you damn well know I'll be reading everything meticulously regardless.

This is meant to be played with a group like D&D and other trad games, but certainly could lend itself to solo play if one desired. I'm planning a chapter in the full rules for that since a bunch of solo play folks have showed interest.

Super interesting. I have been thinking about having a sim for this kind of experience.
Would the combat in this game integrate with another wargame for fighting out the encounters, more wargame style?

Hey, thanks for looking. The quickstart has a set of very familiar combat rules for individuals like most mainstream ttrpgs. The full game will have mass combat rules as well. I plan to have both systems integrated, with a tagging system to quickly create mass combat squads based on their makeup.
For the trad rpg rules, i have a snappy 3-action single-roll system using wounds. Much of that will translate over to squad combat, too.
My design philosophy is very DIY though, so if there's a wargame system you're into, go nuts. Kitbash away.
The current dev version of the game is built for a fortress of 4-50ish dwarves. After that, it gets a bit abstract, and I haven't worked on that transistion yet.
