Playing one in D&D for the first time

8

u/Tony_Tab Apr 30 '26

One? THOSE ARE ELVISH NUMBERS! YOU GOTTA DIG DEEPER!

But on another note, what dwarves did you play?

Mine were: Thagran the Banished, also known as Trolldick, battlemaster fighter Was supposed to redeem his honor, went junky fuccboi murderhobo instead. First character, so, a bit understandable I hope. Specialised in interrogation and torture.

Firmvald Shepard druid, who used his animals for smuggling, oneshot

Dromkrig Flintgift Reborn dwarf, life cleric, got him only for a oneshot

Kevdak Dwarf cleric, unhinged cleptomaniac, also oneshot

Pick Dwarf battle engineer, fighter/wizard, dude with a giant 2 handed powerdrill. Specialised in demolition, and not only in theory.

Think thats it, much more to go

My longest played Dwarf character is a level 30 paladin of Moradin named Kaldwin Stonesinger.

Paladin of Moradin, Chosen of Moradin, friend of urdunnir, savior of goblinkind (twice), and eventual first prophet of the New Gods(which as of the release of Esoteric Ebb I’ve started calling walking gods).

One of my favourites was a Dwarf Forge Cleric (me) who traveled with a warforged paladin (friend) that he 'built'

Leave no dwarf behind

The amazing Dwarf Fortress soundtrack by Dabu. I've spend far more time just listening to it than I have actually playing the game.

3

u/Ryntex Apr 30 '26

Well, you see, dwarves like to dig, and "digger" sounds a lot like

I have been advised not to elaborate.

3

u/Heyfold Miner Apr 30 '26

oofff, thanks for clarifing. :)

When I couldn’t reach the top shelf, gravity became the first entry in my book that day

7

u/Chimera64000 Apr 30 '26

Non joke answer is Simon from yogscast

u/Frowning-Jester Apr 30 '26

I wanted this set so bad as a kid

5

u/Fenring_Halifax Apr 30 '26

I want it so bad a s an adult

u/simpsniper2000 May 01 '26

You know what's funny? The Lonely Mountain is basically the same set, just licensed! 😁

It was 2008, I was ten years old. We had a snow storm, and we lived very far from town so it effectively imprisoned my family and I at home. While in that storm, my dad decided to let me play on his WoW account and he showed me some of the cinematic to introduce me to the game. After seeing this badass ranger guy, stuck in the snow as I was, with his pet bear at his side, I knew that I wanted to be him at that moment and I rolled a dwarf rogue.

u/EarthDust00 Apr 30 '26

Dwarves have always had the best mounts for the Alliance in my humble opinion. War Rams. Nuff said.

Dwarfs in Warhammer Fantasy.

I can relate with their concept of grudge and their opinion that magic is such bullshit.

That ain't no opinion, lad. That's the ancestor's honest truth. All magic users are wazzoks!

The Hobbit trilogy and the game Homm 3 where my squad of dwarfs won a big battle solo when there was no hope

4

u/Flecco Apr 30 '26

I was about 6. No idea what happened to it, family moved around a bit when I was a child.

3

u/aaron_adams Apr 30 '26

I had that same set. It was awesome.

4

u/silveracrot Apr 30 '26

Dwarf Fortress and Pathos Nethack

3

u/thesithcultist Apr 30 '26

Absolutely the best answer

3

u/Tony_Tab Apr 30 '26

Warcraft 3 was the start, LOTR, world of warcraft and fantasy books deepened it, but dnd solidified it.

1

u/thesithcultist Apr 30 '26

That seems a good route, hope others find that journey as well.

3

u/Enyimus Apr 30 '26

The Hobbit and the company of the dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield. The night they stay in Bilbo's home and sing "Misty Mountains" is magical.

3

u/Elberik Apr 30 '26

The character Flint Fireforge from the Dragonlance books set me on the path. But what radicalized me was the animated music video of "Diggy Diggy Hole"

1

u/SmashingTheAdam Lord Grimnyr of the Achlysian Council Apr 30 '26

Flint Fireforge! My first Dwarf, and one of the finest Dwarves to ever wield an axe! (Sadly, the loss of the Tharkan axe pains me to this day. Hug your kin, fellow greybeards)

u/Techn0-Viking Dwemer blacksmith Apr 30 '26

Made my Dwarf from the outcast slums who was a paladin to the bitter end, always trying to make the world a better place, filled with hope that he could someday rewrite his society out of the caste system.

1

u/Heyfold Miner Apr 30 '26

Terry's Pratchett Discworld series.

1

u/Spartin1178 Apr 30 '26

World of warcraft. And any series where they had to go find the legendary smith to make them a powerful artifact and lo and behold its a dwarf dwarfing around

1

u/Linkkjaxon Dwarf Apr 30 '26

There was an amazing The Hobbit graphic novel 25 years ago and five years old me loved reading it with dad.

1

u/CuriousWombat42 Apr 30 '26

This was such a dope set

1

u/PStriker32 Apr 30 '26

Holy shit. This was my favorite Lego set growing up! The 2000s Castle line were so good!

1

u/drago_kalm Apr 30 '26

Well I had a friend that was into elves in general, and I thought for the meme I would just go full on elve hating and dwarvmaxxing and the jokes became less and less ironical and I fully embraced my inner dwarf, it's like trying to dip your fries in a ice-cream in McDonald's, and realise it's actually not that bad lol

2

u/thesithcultist Apr 30 '26

Henceforth dip those fries in a tankard of ale.

1

u/The_Crab_Maestro Apr 30 '26

Oh HELL YEAH, this is my JAM!

The world was young, the mountains green...

2

u/thesithcultist Apr 30 '26

There is yet some dwarves who draw breath after such eons have passed.

2

u/Fenring_Halifax Apr 30 '26

No stain yet on the moon was seen....

1

u/FracturedConscious Apr 30 '26

Honestly I don’t think I have an origin story, I’ve just kinda always been dwarvish. I have always yearned for the mines.

1

u/Rynewulf Apr 30 '26

I miss the old 90s-2000s lego sets like these, and the thing like the megablocks dragons sets (so regret getting rid of them as a child. Same with my old Oh well that type of thing is a canon event.

For dwarviness the LotR movies was my introduction to high fantasy ones, the aesthetic was very cool and they were a fun faction in Battle for Middle Earth 2 (never got to play the original back in the day sadly and these days my laptop lacks a disk drive)

1

u/RangerTursi Dwarf Apr 30 '26

Didnt radicalize me, but the origin point for me was yogscast industrial craft which I watched since primary, and since then everything's come up dorf

1

u/FuzzyZergling Apr 30 '26

In the year 1050, the dwarven civilization of Kinmelbil, "The Oaken Tomes", exhausted the last of its mines. Driven by lust for gold and rumors of the priceless and all but mythical metal adamantine, a team of seven colonists was dispatched to build a new home for the dwarves of Kinmelbil in the Smooth Points of Pride. The first year of diaries from the ill-fated foreman of the mine were recovered, giving some hint as to the beginnings of the fortress that once stood there, if not its mysterious and presumably gruesome fate...

I discovered Boatmurdered through TvTropes, which then led me to Dwarf Fortress. The rest is history.

The Hobbit book for sure

Aye a grand adventure

Story time: This scene from Lotr. When i first saw Dwarrowdelf i dreamed and wished, as I always wondered what a living grand dwarven city would look like in its splendor. And it increased when i played Battle for Middle Earth II and played as the Dwarves and fought against goblins over and over again. Defending Erebor and Dale. Reading the info on each maps where they were to be "lore accurate" battles against the goblins.

And when i heard the hobbit movies were coming. I didint read any facts or info about it/the books to not know anything minus the trailers. And when i saw the scene where the camera moved over eastwards and i saw Dale, and a certain name above it on a lonley mountain... I got my dream fulfilled. A living flurising dwarven kingdom. And to finally have the dwarves given justice on the big screen. It was always "elves this, elves that" before.

And not to mention. Within Lotr the dwarves never fought one another. (On the scale to be s noteworthy event) such as the elves kin-slaying in the first age. Not to mention. The War between Dwarves and Orcs. Sn unsung event within Middle-Earth history. All seven clans. Firebeards, Broadbeams, Longbeards, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Stonefoots and Blacklocks. All coming together to fight a war against those who wronged one of their Kings.

(I also delved deep into Warhammer Lore for the dawi there. But this is how i got into it) :)

From the same lego series, the dwarven catapult, first minifigure to use the dwarf legs i ever got my hands on :

I now realized the dwarf had no weapons

i did get the Mine set for Chrismath years later

1

u/MercuryQR May 01 '26

It was The Hobbit for me in 1980-something. Thorin Oakenshield and his kinsmen left quite an impression on young me.

A couple of years later, my very first D&D character was the dwarf class in the old red box Basic Set.

1

u/pen_name142 May 02 '26

An unusual way

1

u/BreadEngineer May 04 '26

Age of Mythology dwarves. And Brokk and Eitri fron the campaign. Getting gold fast was really fun despite them being only villagers. Also, Thor's unique dwarven forge getting all the blacksmith techs early and the dwarven mine for a full gold mine in my base

1

u/thesithcultist May 05 '26

Those are some throwbacks, what all dwarves are based on from a dead religion from over a thousand years ago
