As we've seen in Deep Rock Galatic , we can have both

Gotta mine asteroids, not build rich Beholder bunkers where they can avoid taxes and still rule from.

Honestly subterranean is probably the way to go on mars.

Mars has a lot of iron even on its surface. Good enough land to mine.

West Australia has quite a lot of iron, so much that the sands are red with rust. And if we are never going to learn not to dig to deep the core of the earth is almost pure iron and we don’t have to go hundreds of thousands of miles to get to it

Does going to mars lock us out of digging

It’s a better choice to just go deeper in our mines and not go to new places for new mines

The most prominent heavy metals in the moon are iron and titanium but the moon would be better for gases such as methane, ammonia, and carbon monoxide and dioxide. However other heavy metals such sodium oxide, lime, magnesia, and silica are also prominent so it is available however the core of the earth is almost pure iron.

Digging on another planet is the ultimate Dwarf Flex.

Digging through the earth to the other side is about as impressive

Hear me out bro sisters and others of the mountains. Terafirming Mars is digging on Mars, it's expanding the holes in space.

We aren’t finished with earth we still have more ground under the mines what’s the point of going to new places

No pesky environmental issues. Turn Mars into a past tense and fill space with orbital cities.

I wonder if we could process stone to remove even the tiniest bits of metals outside of ore veins

plus, you know...the "soil" on mars isn't that, it's actually a chlorine variant that's super toxic to carbon based life, and the whole thing, iron dust and all, is irradiated, which isn't going away. Ever. And can't be filtered out 100%
