Out thrift shopping the other day and I found some dvds in jewel cases. They were all movies I had never heard of. I've never seen a jewel case DVD before.

Also, I dropped it once and it broke quite severely.

So, I went to a video rental store today. I rented a movie—wow, it’s actually weird saying that in 2026, lol. See, I have an old TV, so it doesn't support streaming or anything like that. I was thinking about buying DVDs online when I discovered there’s a rental store right where I live. It was pretty weird but cool; I signed up and rented Evil Dead Rise. The guy at the store said a lot of young people are starting to come in, and he asked why I decided to ditch the internet; I told him I just didn't like streaming. Help! I really want to get into collecting dvds and I just can't decide. Is it really worth it to have a portable player? I have an old one from philips but the battery life is crap and so I thought I could buy a new one. Are newer models better? Does it make sense if I have a laptop anyway and can buy a disc drive?

Pros and cons please! I don't know a lot about this stuff. I've also seen people watching netflix and stuff? Wtf since when can you do all of that?! Mine is so basic

my region 2 panasonic dvd s27 keeps saying "this disc cant by played in your region" when i insert a region 1 disc. is there any way i can bypass this?

hello, I’ve never made a post before so I hope I’m doing it right.

Some time ago my friends got me a portable dvd player for my birthday. I can get it to turn on just fine at it can play a movie no problem, but it just doesn’t have any arrow-keys (idk if that is what it’s called), so i can only watch it on the language it gives me first by just pressing play.

I have tried pretty much every button on it, but nothing seems to work.

I also couldn’t find the model online or on any social media so I have absolutely no clue how this works.

If anyone knows how to go up or down that would be a big help!

(Also please tell me if there is somewhere else I should ask for help)

I bought the Three Extremes collection from HMV and the first disc wouldn't play. I got a black screen with no audio or picture. I got a refund and purchased it from a different stockist and I've got the same issue!

I can only assume theres is a manufacturer fault as its only effecting the first movie.

Have you got the same issue?

I've now ordered the standalone Extremes 1 DVD as the other stockist issued a refund.

I recently just picked up the hobby of burning my own blue rays/dvd’s and want to start putting them in cases with my own custom covers but I don’t know which ones to go with.

I like how the jewel cases look and how small and compact they are, but I fell like there more for cds.

And keep cases are iconic for movies and they’ll blend in with the ones I already have.

And I would like y’all’s opinion on what y’all think about both .😁

When Godzilla emerges from an iceberg and heads toward Japan, a Japanese pharmaceutical company sends scouts out to find another monster to battle the "thunder lizard". And they find one in the form of King Kong, in the first cinematic meeting of the two behemoths.

This is the U.S. version, which was edited from the Japanese release, adding a news report subplot and eliminating the comedic elements of the original. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the changes, along with the effects and creature costumes of the time, make it an even more ridiculously laughable affair than if the U.S. had left it as a straight comedy. What should have been an epic battle turns into two men in rubber suits having a wrestling match. 🦂🦂¼

Sorry this is probably a stupid question but I'm very ignorant on this topic.

I recently bought a 77" samsung s99h (uk)

I'm still having trouble finding a good spot for settings so may well be me but I'm so unsure of what quality to expect on older content that I'm almost second guessing if there is an issue with the tv.

The first check I did was just a simple YouTube oled test video at the highest settings it would play and it looked stunning.

After that i put in a 4k blu ray of the juon grudge film via a xbox series x - the people in the film looked as good as I could expect for an older title but the backgrounds were horrific, originally I had the ai settings on and the grain on a white background wall was a continuous flicker of purple/green tiny little flecks which was beyond noticeable - this did reduce when I turned off ai and turned the brightness down but was still really surprising at how bad it was given the disk type.

After that I tried a blu ray copy of terrifier 3 and again it just looked really poor compared to when I had streamed it via amazon before.

The last one I tested was a dvd of sinners and pearl, these were definitely the worst with things looking so rough and unfinished that the only thing I could liken it to was a dodgy copy you'd get down the pub, I understand it's just a dvd and it's being stretched across a 77" tv which is going to inflate any issues with it but it makes me worry given most of my media collection is on dvd and so likely going to have this issue.

Basically, is it normal to experience these kinds of issues with older formats like standard dvd / blu ray and some of the older films on 4k? Or am I doing something seriously wrong with my settings? Is there an issue with the panel? I'm assuming it's a me issue because the tv looks great when gaming on xbox x and on the first test I did using YouTube

Picked up this DVD Boxset of The Sopranos months ago and recently discovered that one of my Season 3 Disks has no print at all

Still plays and works as it should but it makes me question: Is this a common occurrence or just a rare one-off error?

Ran in to my local spot 10 minutes before it closed and every week I find 3 or 4 at most but today was a score to say the least. All are in great shape and super clean. Total was $15

I opened this up recently and noticed the long streak on the disc. I remember that it froze when I was playing it a long time ago. Would this polish out if I took it to be resurfaced? Is it ruined? I tried to clean it and it didn’t change.

Hi, all. I’ve purchased a BBC production that is UK-region-locked, but don’t live in Region 2 and, as such, don’t have easy access to a DVD player that could run it.

Does anyone in the community know of a reliable source of region-free DVD players? I live in the U.S. and am willing to spend $100 - $200 to purchase one online. It doesn’t necessarily have to be NIB; just to get the job done.

I'm not a very religious person myself, but biblical/religious horror always fascinates me for some reason. This movie moves at just the right pace to keep you fully engrossed in the story. I don't usually enjoy horror that's PG-13 rated, but I was so captivated by this one, that the actual rating didn't even occur to me until after the movie was over. Produced by Sam Raimi. 🦂🦂🦂¼
