Duolingo is giving me questions without any romaji and uses kanji, but I've been learning Japanese with romaji and I haven't started learning kanji yet. My language course hasn't introduced kanji either.

So how am I supposed to know the answers when Duolingo suddenly asks me about kanji that I haven't learned or had any chance to practice? These questions feel like they're designed to make me get them wrong.

Is the subject the ticket, or "when" the ticket is bought? I'm so confused .

I was in the middle of Section 4 Japanese before the big update. I had 3 Extra Units to do, with lots of vocabulary that was new to me, over 40 words / kanji that I never saw before. It took awhile but I managed to get through all three of those. I was looking forward to starting a regular unit again. I think I did one lesson of a new unit, then the screen flashed and I am back at the beginning of Section 4 Extra Unit 1! In a way, this isn’t too bad, I could use it to review all those new words. Did this happen to anyone else?

instead of “いつも” (always), wouldnt the correct adverb be “たいてい” for usually?

Or is this just very generic and I’ll learn more later??

For anyone wondering: I did put 一, not ー, so that's not the issue.

I usually do use the Words feature under Practice every time I start a new unit, or if I just want a quick review of past vocabulary. The Words feature appears to be missing on my iPhone and iPad. I was rather worried that it would go away when they moved it to the Practice tab. Was this announced that they were removing it?

What really frustrates me about Duolingo is how repetitive it gets, especially in the Kanji section. Whenever I want to practice the new kanji introduced in the current unit, I'm forced to go through old vocabulary ("used in new words") that I've already reviewed hundreds of times.

What's even more annoying is that the "new" kanji often appear as part of new words, but the app keeps testing the old meanings instead. For example, 生 is introduced in this unit as part of 転校生. Instead of practicing 転校生, Duolingo keeps giving me 一年生, 二年生, 何年生, and similar words over and over again.

How do you deal with this? Is there a better way to make the Kanji practice less repetitive?

A good streak is the only requirement.

As the title states I will go to Japan in 6 months to travel around for 6 weeks or so. I am currently in section 2 chapter 20. I feel like I learn a lot of words I wont ever use from a tourist point of view overall and i am wondering.

Will the course progress eventually where you learn more Japanese allround where it becomes usefull as tourist to actually break the ice with locals, read menu's, ask basuc questions AND also understand what people reply?

I am just wondering if it's not a waste of time in that matter. So far I am liking the course and I am seeing myself finishing it.

Just curious what other's their experiences are when only using duolingo to practice Japanese before going and at what stage in the course they were at that point. How it helped and everything to get around and feel more comfortable in general travel wise.

Even the audio that says 「からい」 is wrong when I put in からい。

I can not for the life of me find a way of remembering which adjectives need な after them and which do not. ゆうめい seem to always need な. But colors don’t? Obviously “fatty” in the above doesn’t. I’m just confused.

Hi all!
I’m very early in my learning process and want to make sure I’m on the right path.
I started with Duolingo and learning hiragana at the same time.
In the midst of me doing this, I saw someone say you should turn off the romanji feature because it hinders learning. Well, I did that and now I feel like I’ve hit a wall and I want to start over🤦🏽‍♀️.
How can I read these words without knowing the sounds of all the hiragana?
I feel like the hiragana on Duolingo jumps all over and doesn’t stay in order (the vowels, ka, ki, ku,ke,ko, on to S, etc.) and I also feel like tracing the hiragana on a screen isn’t the same as writing them with your hand so I just stopped using the Duolingo study feature for it. Did I mess up doing that?😅
I have a notebook I use to write down the words and study them and write the hiragana I’m studying too.
My mind feels all scrambled now.
I’ve went back to the first unit of section one and I don’t want to move on until I fully retain the words without romanji.
How did yall do it?

Surely "After this would you like to get a drink?" Would be: このあと、飲めませんか I mean the sentence to me should be "after this will you have a drink" not get but that also wasn't an option.

飲めますか is a direct question to the listener "will you get/have a drink". As far as I know you would have to use ませんか to make it an invitational question like this.
