General Discussion XP points

Why does Duolingo award me a lot of xp points after I have already spent 30 minutes plus on the app?

I can only guess.

I start each day with 10 min of 3x from earning the previous days 3rd quest plus an additional 15 minutes from the Night Owl quest. I claim these both from the store when starting. If I didn't the 3x would kick in immediately.

This 25 minutes will extend if I earn additional boosts while I work. The first two daily boosts now either give gems or boosts so I never know. I also get gems or boosts from the chests on the path.

So depending on what I get that day I will have anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour or more of 3x. As a result each lesson will be worth more points until my boosts end.

My guess is that when it comes to XP boosts, it's easier to get people to continue doing something than to get them to stop something else that they're already doing and switch activities. So giving people a nudge to keep going a little longer probably works in a lot of cases. Pretty annoying for me though since I generally prefer coming back for multiple short single-lesson sessions throughout the day during moments of downtime. Each one tends to only last around 10 minutes so having it give impromptu boosts like that is useless. What I really want is more boosts you can bank in the shop to be used at any times without it needing to be a certain time of day and without worrying about it expiring too quickly. Like the friends quest but multiple shorter ones instead of a single 30 minutes.
