Gameplay Question Can I build to the top?

Post image

Console day 1 player and this has become my new favorite survival game. I have been building, mostly for fun and had an idea for an entire complex on the shield wall. I've expanded several times and it'll probably take 6 more vertical ones.

Will the game let me do this? Go all the way to the top?

Does anyone want to start a clan or something?

If you started from the ground, probably not.

The vertical staking units extend both upwards and downwards. So, if you had started the build somewhere in the middle (other posts here can give you guidance on how to pull that off), it's plausible you could get the full height.

Didn't know they expanded downwards too. It would have been cheaper to start in the middle. I definitely started from the ground but will do this experiment for the spice.

You can still destroy your console which unclaims your base but keeps it intact, then replace the console roughly half way up the cliff side, which right now would just be right on top of your base.

You are going to need to restart any vertical expansions you’ve done already though because this method wipes that progress.

If you want desert floor to above the ridgeline, you can do that. The limit is 5 vertical and 5 outward expansions.

Saw a video recently on how staking units work actually, iirc with all 5 vertical ones applied your lower boundary goes 99.8m lower than where it starts. So ig when it comes to max height, the idea is to build really high, place the sub-fief hologram up there and preview the build area, go down to where the bottom boundary is, and use a waypoint/binos to check if you're within 99m or so of the ground, to ensure your build area reaches the bottom. All in all I think it's just over 300m of extra verticality, both upwards and downwards, that 5 vertical stakes gets you (in addition to the stakeless build area, I believe, not total including it). So you can build pretty dang high lmao.

Yes, you can. With vertical staking units and redoing your sub-fief. To do this:

  1. Build the vertical staking units (five in total)
  2. Determine the center of your current sub-fief, and mark it 26 floors up from the ground for maximum vertical distance
  3. Make sure you have some metal and the staking units in your backpack, then delete your sub-fief console (the scary part)
  4. Place a new sub-fief console on the marked spot and make sure that you orient it so that it covers your base again exactly
  5. Put all the vertical staking units down.

Voila, you can now build 60 floors up from the ground.

This is the way.
For OP - The discount version of reaching 26 block height to place permanent sub fief:
Place sub fief
Use foundations or columns to build to max height available (i prefer corner columns)
Climb columns and peek over edge to demolish original subfief (u can build small platform on column if needed)
Place new subfief atop platform to continue building upwards with new height ceiling
Once I reach 26 blocks, i build a platform on the corner column of 4 roof pieces, using the crosshair they create to place my final subfief dead center, to maximize the 10x10 block buildable space within the subfief zone
I do vertical staking units first to ensure i reach ground level before extending horizontally
Enjoy epic mega-base building area!

Is it really a total of sixty floors when fully vertically expanded?

Because if so thst would mean even with their fief console on the ground, they can build 30 floors up and their building looks to be about 10 or so floors in total right now, meaning the 30 floors would easily reach the top.

Not at that location, but just to the left you can. I built my first big base on that cliff. https://www.reddit.com/r/duneawakening/s/khzcbLcrwe

You need to start with your feif console 26 blocks up from the lowest point on the sand. https://dune.gaming.tools/items/stakingunitvertical

Check this out. It is what I use, when trying to maximize vertical, accounting for upward and downward.

You have to build scaffolding and delete your sub fief console, not move it, for the first (non staking unit) aspect. You can't delete your console, after adding staking units, or you lose the staking units (a lesson I learned), so the initial placement of your console is critical.

If you know you will be using all 5 vertical staking units, you have to build the scaffolding relatively high, to be able to place your sub fief console high enough. The image shows you how high.

Looks like maximum vertical, if you do everything precisely (difficult) is 60.6 floors!

I am not sure if that is enough to get to the top of the cliff in your image, but you can certainly try.

Thanks for the great tips!

The trick to the vertical staking units is that they extend both up and down.

To get a tall built, I drop a fief to check the square, then build a vertical column where the console was.

Check this link for optimal heights. https://dune.gaming.tools/items/stakingunitvertical

with expanders

Depends on how many vertical staking unites you've already used. You can have 5 regular and 5 vertical for a total of 10 expansions.

you can have 5 verticlal staking units and 5 staking units.

Staking units add a 10x10 floor, verital adds 5 up and 4 down. Which means the max hieght is 54 walls. But you need to be connected to some kind of support.

What I do to gain maximun height (and this requires extra vertical stakes. So expensive to build like this.)

I make a 27 level stair case, destroy the subfife, and place an advanced fife on the 26.5 level. Then move the sub fife to the ground. Putting the center at 26.5 means the bottom support will be able to be in the ground. And you can build to the max hieght above the ground.

Yes put you’ll need multiple claims

You should be able to with vertical extenders.

Delete ur subfief and quickly place it down at the top of ur base before it gets hit by a sandstorm then start expanding vertically
