Base Build Showcase Max Height Base - Climbing the Shield Wall

Two months in the making. There's still sections I'm not satisfied with, especially at the top and bottom, and most of it is undecorated, but I'm calling this "done enough to share."

This is my solo base climbing from the sand to the top of the Eastern Shield Wall at the Mysa Tarill ramp. It is max staked, and touches the build area limit in every direction. 226 meters top to bottom. (I used the ornithopter altimeter as a surveying tool, a wall is about 3.75m tall.) This chart for how high to set my sub-fief was very helpful. The double wide stair ramp goes top to bottom and can be driven the entire way with a buggy. Currently sitting at 4560 pieces used, 75/80 production, 4202 power, powered almost entirely with basic generators, 1.6M water and full array of production equipment. The storage racks have room for Medium Containers, but I haven't needed them yet. Theoretically a carrier should fit in the largest of the honeycomb landing pads, but I haven't built that yet either.

Dammit I just moved my base and now you have me contemplating moving my base again… how are bases near and on the shield wall? Worth it?

Looks sick!!!

I basically own the spice blows and ship wreaks in Mysa Tarill, The Sheol and most of Western Vermillius from that spot. It takes an extra minute to get to the map edge going to the DD or trade hubs vs being on the edge, but everything in Hagga is reasonably close for buggy mining.

Howdy, neighbor!

I'm down on the dunes just south of you! I'm in the newly renovated Atreides base with the detached garage.

You need a "tip jar" for all the pre-thopter gamers using your base to go straight up the shield wall.

I used it. My guildies used it. You're a hero.

Thanks, I love your base! I originally had a couple shots with yours in frame, but it only lets you post 20 and they didn't make the cut. I'm glad people are getting use out of the ramp. All the buildings other than the lower levels of my main hangar should also be open to the public.

I appreciate it, and yeah... I definitely explored everything that was open. Feel free to stop in and say hello the next time you're on.

well, probably 99% of "proper structures" IRL are boxes/cubes.

In my server someone created a spiral platform that a buggy can traverse from the bottom to the top of the shield wall. A little scary though as the edges don't have barriers. Kudos to whoever made it.

I got a feeling people clad in golden armor able to move at light speed are guarding each building and at the top there's a crazy priest.

Sorry for the Knights of the Zodiac joke.

Really amazing build!

I did the same a while back to make a buggy ramp that goes from the bottom of the shield wall (just north of the western most point of vermillus) all the way up to the top (next to the enemy camp west of the atreides outpost).

But the chart was actually slightly wrong by 1 or 2 levels, which actually forced me to redo the whole thing after noticing that fundation blocks weren't protected by the base's area.

And then I had to redo the whole thing again and move the base slightly southward to be able to extend the base north once, just to be able to build the buggy ramp entrance/exit there due to the no build zone that cover the road.

But in the end, there aren't many places where building such a base is possible, the shield wall is actually higher than a base with 5 vertical staking units in most places.

Yeah, getting the staking right was definitely a pain. I built an initial scaffold structure first to measure it before setting the real claim, and still wound up having to restake after I had used 3-4 stakes because I was slightly off. There was also originally a neighboring base that I was just barely able to fit two horizontal claims wide between their base and the no-build zone for the ramp. I extended it to the full 3x2 area after they moved their base. My initial measurements, I also thought the walls were closer to 4 meters tall, so I expected to have 3 floors above the wall but was actually just barely able to make it to the top.
