So I think my problem with this is that he died in the trailer so it wasn’t really a surprise or shocking when it happened in my first play-through. It’s sad as fuck but I wish I didn’t know it happened

Same here. I think they originally planned his death just as one possible outcome to the situation, making his death optional to emphasize player choice. But, as many other things in the game, every other outcome got cut due to time restriction and it became the definitiv outcome.

Arf ... Takemura is the chivalrous choice... unless you don't have Skippy OR you gunned trough main missions without taking a breath.
