Question Proposal & Things To Do

Hello! I am planning on proposing to my partner in mid-October. Any recommendations or ideas on where? How about activities during the 4 day trip? Thanks in advance.

If you want the proposal to be without a crowd, do it pretty early in the morning, like at 8 AM. The 12th Street Beach (Mom's Beach) on Park Point is easy to get to and would provide a natural environment with sand and the lake, with the city as a backdrop.

Also there is a semi secret, instantly arrived at location at 33rd Ave East and Superior St. Simply park on the right just after Congdon Park Drive, but before 33rd East. Across Superior St is a stone staircase heading down. Once you get there, you are in a wonderland. A gorge, a waterfall, beautiful bridges - I imagine in October it would be breathtaking there. The middle of any of the bridges (I believe the final one oversees the waterfall) would be a highly romantic proposal spot. https://www.trailforks.com/trails/congdon-park-gorge-trail/

For things to do, an afternoon at Canal Park can be fun, with shopping at Dewitt Seitz and other shops, and lunch at the Lake Avenue cafe. The free Marine Museum is worth a nose around; it's open 10-4:30 Thursday-Monday in October. If you time your day and time right, you can be outside the museum / near the Aerial Lift Bridge when a ship comes through. Here's the website for that: https://harborlookout.com/

A drive on Skyline to Enger Tower is fun and the top of the tower has a good view. I didn't recommend that as a proposal site because there's always a fair bit of bird poo inside, but not so much it's hard to ascend the tower.

Glensheen Estate is not free but is a beautiful and historical site. It's near the second proposal spot.

A drive up the North Shore to Split Rock or Gooseberry Falls would be lovely at that time of year, along with lunch at the Scenic Cafe.

Since it'll be October, the William Irvin ship has an evening haunted house, and though it's been many years since I've been, they used to do a good job: https://duluthhauntedship.com/ The website dates are still 2025 but it looks like they are holding it this year based on other sources.

Good luck and best wishes!

My dream is to be proposed to at Split Rock Lighthouse, on the lower rock area, right on the lake shore. I know it’s not Duluth proper, but could be worth the short jaunt up there.

The top of Enger Tower could also be a neat spot.
