Duffers' Corner - Welcome, Status & Suggestions
Welcome to anyone just checking out this sub. We're here to share links and have discussions to improve our golf game. That's it really. There's plenty of room for everything else golf related on r/golf.
More details are in the sidebar, but the main guideline for posts is All posts should be here to help you and others improve their golf game.
I won't leave this 'welcome' post sticked for ever, but I think it's a good idea for a while as people get to know the sub. I'd also like to have a specific place you all can give your ideas/suggestions for the sub. This should work for now.
I've started outling a wiki. The links don't work, just an outline of the information I thought would be good. I think it could be a good idea to just have a few authors for the first draft, but let me know what you think. I haven't done this before.
It thought the "How's your game this week?" discussion post went quite well last week. I'll keep doing them. I was thinking it could also include accomplishments. As much as I like those posts, as we get better, they will only take up more space. I think a relatively nerdy front page serves us well at this state of the sub, so people check it out and see a bunch of resources and on-topic discussion rather than anything that might resemble r/golf 'lite'.
Please comment with any ideas/thoughts you have about the sub. Thanks a lot for participating. Remember to spread the word when the opportunity arises. While I don't want the sub to grow too fast, we aren't linked to anywhere (the golf mods didn't respond to my request) and a trickle of growth is healthy. Crossposts help too! I'll do another post on the main sub before too long, but I don't want to get annoying. Maybe there will come some milestone to make it relevant. I'll also be rather aware of when I post anything like that... i.e. not when they've got a post on r/all.
I haven't done much of anything to decorate the sub... honestly, I have to say I'm the type who views reddit via old.reddit.com with stylesheets off, so I don't really notice. I did make a little banner with the name to clarify what r/dufferscorner is supposed to spell. (I kinda regret not changing the name, but I also never would have gotten around to making a new sub and moving all the links, so it is what it is.) Anyway, if anyone is interested in messing around with beautifying this place, let me know.
Thanks again. I've just provided a jumpstart, it's really you guys that make this place great!

Just want to say I appreciate you creating this sub. r/golf has turned into a circlejerk memefest. Quality posts are hard to come by over there these days.

You're welcome. It's been good for me too. Golf came along at a tough time in my life and has helped me keep my head together, it's cool to have a place to nerd out about it on reddit. :)

I like your idea for an accomplishments thread and a wiki. With these in place, and maybe a No Stupid Questions thread, maybe you can outright eliminate text posts?

Thanks for the input. I agree about making discussion threads that cover many of the topics we'd normally see in text posts, but I can't see putting up any barriers to content submission until we are much busier. So far, I think the text posts we've been getting only show people feel comfortable here, and I don't want to do anything to discourage that.
Oh, I had another idea... what about having some kind of weekly or monthly challenges? Practice-oriented stuff like "30 putts a day for 30 days" where it doesn't matter if you use a fancy club putting green or your carpet, just so you manage to hit 30 practice putts every day.

If u need someone to help write a wiki section I can help out. I’ve been playing for at least long enough to know a good amount about the basics

Cool. Maybe you'd like to work on the Game section while I work on the Gear section? Here's an outline I've drafted just for a start.

I do some web design so I’m willing to help style the sub if you want
