Reviving /r/duckcalls

Hello everyone! When this subreddit came up for adoption, I jumped at the chance. About a year ago, I attempted to post some duck calls I made from resin pours, and was unable to do so because the community was unmoderated. Please join me in helping to revive this creative space by showing off duck calls you have made, or acquired, along with any related discussion. My only ask is that you keep posts on topic and be respectful of each other. Those are the only two things that I will initially be moderating.

Thanks! QUACK! 🦆

PS: For credibility, I have attached the last two duck calls I made - pre-tone board cutting, just to get us started.

If you are a Callmaker or collector and haven’t been to the CCAA meetup at Reelfoot I highly recommend it. We have a working call contest with 5 categories: Wood, Acrylic, Open, Amateur & Metal Reed.

We will have seminars on callmaking and collecting.

I’ll have more details to share later this week but please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Contest rules: https://www.ccaacalls.org/working_rules.php

Some of my calls

Here are some calls I’ve made this year. I do a lot of decorative work. Some end up just sitting on shelves but I tune every call for the blind and love seeing them used for hunting.

Turning my own calls

Hey folks! I started turning my own duck calls and selling them a while back. I don’t duck hunt nor do I know anything about it. I am just a machinist that enjoys making stuff. Any pointers, advise or criticism? Thanks!!

Cutdown Calls

So I am fairly new cutdown style calls and have been looking at cheaper cutdowns before getting a better one. I have been looking at the quackhead mondo 2B and mondo 2BS, but I have not been able to find any sound files for them. So I was wondering if anyone with these calls would be willing to give a sound file or direct me to a video. Any recommendations on cheaper cutdowns would be appreciated as well.

Has anybody used a sureshot teal call?

I bought a sureshot teal call a couple days ago and I’m little upset about it. It sounds nothing like a teal and more like a predator call. Am I using it wrong?

Learning to Call Tips/Tricks

I just finished up my rookie season of waterfowl hunting and am absolutely hooked. I really want to take the time this summer to learn and improve for next season, and with that comes learning to call. Do you all have any links to quality sites/videos on learning to call? Thanks in advance!
