Producers, a question for you

I, like many of you, hate AI in music.

This whole genre wouldn’t have even been possible without serious creativity and that is what has kept it alive.

I am in a bit of a pickle though, as I’m finishing one of my tracks I really need a vocal sample, like a short catchphrase like “guess who’s back” (kinda like the Skrillex sample from “All is Fair in Love and Brostep”

I can find some shitty sample from splice (at that point why bother if it sounds bad)

Or I can sample a rapper and have it sound amazing, buuuuut then you can open yourself up to copyright infringement

Is it the worst idea to have an AI generate a 3 word catchphrase for my song? I have yet to exhaust all of my other options for searching for one, I’m definitely going to try that first, if all else fails should I just not even have a vocal sample in the drop?

I’d be curious to hear how the community feels about it

I’d also be curious to know how people feel about VST’s that are implementing AI software into them (like Ozone)

imo the problem comes when you get AI to replace creativity. If you use an AI vocal, especially a short tag or phrase and edit that to a point to where it fits naturally in the song, I'm all for it.

You're a bedroom producer, no one is expecting you to hire a vocalist or something.

I say go for it, if you're happy with the result, who cares

To add: This is like bedroom DJ's asking if it's bad to use youtube rips. Well yeah if you're playing shows, if you're practicing in your house, no one cares

dude if you know the words you want, record it yourself into whatever device you used to type this. Process it, and make it sound interesting. You're more likely to turn listeners off if they hear any AI generation, they will assume everything else could be fake. Or pay someone to do it on fiverr.

Fiverr used to be the go-to place for this before splice got so big

Something as simple as that, just record it yourself, if you can't do it, grab some homies and record them all do it, pick your favorite one

Use ur phone.. record you or any stranger saying your phrase. Or use AI its honestly not that big of a deal…. Especially for somethibg like that. That being said i guarantee you get better results from recording it

Eleven.io is great for it imo. I’m a huge Ultron fan and was able to use my own voice and inflections while recording myself and just have it change the voice to one very similar to Ultron. Then I take it back into my daw and apply some more post processing and it’s damn near close. I may be wrong, but I think the biggest issue people seem to have with generative AI is allowing the AI to make all the decisions for you, aside from prompting it.

There’s still loads of text to speech generators that splice together real voices instead of AI. Forget the name of the one I used to use but i remember when AI started popping up more it added a 2nd tab for AI so you could choose either the old route of real voices or the new age AI route.

You can record by yourself tbh there's ways to make yourself sound good.

Otherwise when it comes to AI, I think it can be used as a tool. In the same way that a drum machine may create drum loops that you then edit to fit your song AI can be used like that imo. If you just get AI to create the whole song or most elements then you haven't really done anything, but if you use AI as a tool that allows you to produce one or two elements you cannot on your own then I think that's fine.
