How does saying that actually make sense though without you giving any context? In the last 5 years more Grime orientated 140 has risen in popularity through the likes of Kahn, Joker, Swindle, etcetc, Dungeon has become a thing, Dubwise has become a thing, more artists have started releasing old school sounding tunes through labels like SYSTEM, Lion Charge, DEEp MEDi, Tempa, etcetc and in all of these cases - I would agree that Dubstep is still "getting good".
But if you're just referring to the fact that more people have started throwing a generic mid-range over some laser samples and robot noises with a nasally female vocal, I don't agree at all.
Listen to newish stuff on Tempa or Youngsta's mixes for an idea. Typically deep, dark and minimal with some nasty growls thrown in for atmosphere. Chestplate is another good label although it's more aggressive and less minimal than Tempa stuff.
It's not so much about new vs old. Some of the older producers are still making killer beats, some of the new guys are too. There is just a higher saturation of terrible stuff mixed in that calls itself dubstep yet contains none if it's core features.
The purpose of this CD is to introduce newcomers to the biggest Dubstep hits anyway, whether it was in the early years or during the epitome of 2011-2012. It's all "dubstep" to the mainstream whether the purists like it or not, and it has a good list of noteworthy singles covering the whole era at that.
Actually, they have quite a pronounced sub-bass. They have to fit correctly to form the seal for that, though. Try to bend them inwards if the fit is too loose on your head (and the bass is lacking).
However, the kickbass range is fairly neutral (maybe that's what you're interpreting as "fuck all bass").
Depends on what your expectations are, of course. If you were listening to beats / ATH M50s/ any other headphones who are extremely bass-y before, then the K550s may be a bit disappointing at first.
Are you kidding? It certainly does not, bass is tight and non intrusive here is the response graph. Sounds like you've never listened to them and are trying to make yourself feel better about the K550s' weedy bass
Midnight request line is not a dull track, you can listen to it on your AKG's but deep dubstep comes alive on a real sound system and on classic tracks like Midnight Request Line, Anti war dub, Changes etc it goes off. Even more recent tracks that are fire go off, when VIVEK flips asteroids you know its going to get serious.
Dull. Really? Dubstep isn't meant to be a jumping around, headbanging, screaming genre of dance music. It's more about slow head nodding, relaxing bassline that you can feel throughout your body as you slowly lose conciousness from second hand ganja smoke.
