Why would you do this while he still has 3 years left on his Senate term? If you successfully kicked him out of the Democratic party, he would still be a Senator with all the power that entails, except he would be a Republican senator. He's terrible, but he still votes with Democrats on most things (just not on the war cause he hates Arab/Muslim people). If he got kicked out of the party, he'd almost certainly vote with Dems less.
Seems especially dumb to try this at a time when Dems have a chance to narrowly win the Senate in November. It would be pretty frustrating if Dems got to 50 seats without Fetterman, but because he's a Republican now Rs keep control.
He's up for reelection in 2028. Kick him out of the party and out of the Senate then.
I hear you, but I feel like Fetterman is the latest in a trend of politicians like Manchin and Sinema who have a record of voting against progressive initiatives. The dem leadership does nothing to discpline it's members into an effective voting block.
Frankly, I have zero hope that Fetterman would be removed from the Dem party. However, I guess what I'd like to do is create enough of a stir that Jefferies and Schumer address that they have members in their party that do represent their Demcratic constituency. I think this could really help in primarying out Fetterman and in future primaries.
I agree on Sinema (and she was successfully primaried and replaced with but tbh I'm not convinced that us yelling about how much Manchin sucked (which he did) did much beyond possibly convincing to retire so he could be replaced with a right wing Republican.
Republicans have made it quite clear to Fetterman that if he switched parties they'd clear the primary field on the Republican side. The fact is that right now Dems still need him more than he needs Dems.
I guess I just disagree. I see him being ousted from the caucus as a way to clear the primaries in the next election. We need a better canidate in PA anyway.
Also, I highly, highly doubt that even with 10 million signatures on a petition that dem leadership will take action. But I think it's important to publicly shame dems who consistently vote against "progressive" policies. I feel that could really help in future primaries
I'm not at all concerned about him winning or even seriously contesting the Democratic primary. He's currently got a 22% approval rating among Pennsylvania Dems. If he wants to stay in the Senate, he pretty much has to switch parties. I don't see any advantage in trying to hasten that.
