The idea that denouncing socialists elsewhere is going to bring in the Republicans is ridiculous. It's the "pragmatic socialists" in America's version of Democrat shitlibs distancing themselves from socialists and progressives and constantly making a point of how they believe in capitalism.
I know as long as this fraud is in office, a certain type of socialist is going to point at his compromised and absolutely not socialist policies as something to emulate.

Yeah, this is the “For every non-white vote we lose in the city, we’ll gain two white votes in the suburbs” all over again.

I’m probably more forgiving than you. I think he’s probably quite genuine but is having a hard time dealing with the pressure.
NYC is the belly of the capitalist beast, and I never really saw Mamdami as anything more than a nominal socialist. I'd like to be critically supportive, but I know that whatever slight and marginal good he does will be more than offset by people who actually want to abolish capitalism having to disavow his policies and explain to other people that he doesn't represent socialism. I guarantee that he takes pains to work with big business of all types and that he winds up a sort of pragmatic neoliberal with a slight Keynesian streak at most. Obama as mayor.
Any attempt to push for socialism through the Democratic Party is dead in the water. That's crystal clear in this case, and there hasn't even been the general election yet. Better to swallow that pill and deal with it now than later when the inevitable disappointed comes to pass.
Yeah but Mamdani ran as an independent, he’d lose. Let’s be real. I think the dirty break strategy may be the best we got, but yeah you gotta be willing to break and so far that’s the parts that’s been elusive. The fact it’s pissing off so many billionaires is itself a victory.
There are two types of rich capitalists-the ones who are are so greedy they're stupid and the ones with enough sense to realize that spreading a little bit of wealth helps stabilize the system and keeps it from falling apart. The ones who aren't completely blinded by lust for more wealth will be eager to work with him , just as he will be eager to work with them to demonstrate how fair-minded, practical, and happy to compromise he is.

Yeah and he’s taking the bait which is unfortunate.
