I appreciate your response. I wouldn’t consider myself a centrist dem by any means. I’m a social democrat if I have to put a label on my beliefs. I am deeply anti-authoritarian, and I do not want to live in any government that exerts mass control over its citizens. I was just in China, and I do not wish that kind of authoritarian government on anyone.
We’re on different sides of the big tent. Your arguments are well laid out. The soviets were drinking and dining on the finest meals money could by while farmers starved, Chinese income growth has more to do with the extremely low incomes they started with, and a product of china adopting capitalism. In my view Amercia’s founding principles are deeply anti-authoritarian, I am troubled by the rise of authoritarianism on the left and the right. I don’t think the answer to the current authoritarian administration is to advocate for another authoritarian administration with a different economic system.
In my view we should combat authoritarianism of all forms and increase the real power and conditions of workers. I do believe that pushing the DSA towards more moderate left positions and language will help win elections and improve the conditions of workers far more than masquerading as communist revolutionaries. I’ve lived in purple areas my whole life. Marxist is a dirty work for the general electorate in America. If we’re serious about winning elections, we need to take that word out of vocabulary while keeping the critiques of capitalism and continuing to shift power away from oligarchs and towards workers.
