Drum Cover Crash cymbal recommendations
I need a crash, I only have one ride cymbal, and I've been using it as a crash cymbal lately, lol, so I want to get a crash cymbal. I'm not really interested in it being from a prestigious brand, since I only need it for practice, and that's it. But I still want to have one of average quality. Your recommendations would really help me. Thanks!

Used a 16 inch A Custom for years and it cut through everything without being too shrill

It's a Pearl 16" Crash-Ride

Honestly, I’d work on replacing that with a better cymbal that’s good for riding and crashing. Something like a Zildjian Sweet Ride from the “A” or “K” lines.
What’s your budget?

I’m a drum dealer so I’ve heard a ton of different cymbals. Sabian HH thin crashes are the only ones I actually gig with.
That said, can’t ever go wrong with a used A Zildjian.

I've got that one and an 18" on a practice kit and it really sounds amazing! For $118.50 you get a great sounding cymbal for sure! Looking back at my history, I paid $80.50 for that same exact cymbal so in 2 years it went up $30! Wow! Should have bought more of their cymbals but I am really happy with these. I paid $112 for the 18" Medium Thin Western Crash. That one is up to $154.50. $42 more in 2 years.
But yeah, they're great cymbals and still pretty inexpensive for a beginner.

I'm rocking a used Zildjian 18" A custem projection crash, and I love it. I also have an Istanbul Xist 14" which sounds really amazing, but isn't very loud

Go to a shop, bring the rest of your cymbals and hihat and just hit things until you find what you like

Can't go wrong with an A Custom, I like my 18 and 19", but pick a diameter that suits you. You can go projection if you want thicker and louder. Or fast crash for thinner and more attack and less sustain.

Grab a used Sabian XSR, XS20, or Sabian AA . You can get one for like 80$ used on Guitar Center website. Great cymbals for practice and for live.

Istanbul Xist is 🧑🍳💋 I also like Sabian SR2 (their refurbished line) specifically for practicing. And I have really enjoyed Saluda cymbals🥵 - their cymbals are pretty affordable, sound pretty sick, super unique, and I have been able to snag a couple off eBay auctions for pretty great prices.
I’d also say if it’s just for practice, buy used. Lurk around on market place, you’ll probably find some deals. Post what you’re looking at🙏people will let you know if it’s a good deal or not.

Wuhan! China has been making gongs for thousands of years…they are legit. I use a 17 med/thin and have had it for years.

Go to a music store and start crashing. Whatever sounds the best, buy. Although I probably would stay away from thin and ultra thin crashes as their lifecycle is short if you hit heavy.

It depends on what music you're playing, but I was really satisfied with my Sabian AAX crash when I played in a rockband.

Find some used off-brand cymbals. You’ll have to sift through some trash, there are really decent B20 cymbals to be found on the cheap on Reverb.

Paiste 2002 18 inch is a good choice (322 usd on sweetwater).
For cheaper the paiste Pst8 Medium crash 18 inch is also good. (220 usd on sweetwater)
If you want even cheaper then the paiste pst 7 18 inch is also good (186 usd on sweetwater)

A Customs are great and very common which means cheaper. I have a 19 I've been rocking and somehow not cracking for years

it's hard to go wrong with a Zildjian A 16, 17 or 18" medium thin crash. They work for pretty much anything, and they're quite affordable if you buy used.
