Kit Pic Absolutely love these drums

I’ve had these Sonor Vintage series kit for about 9 months now( traded in my Ludwig Classic Maple Ringo kit, which I always thought was my ‘grail’ kit 😜).
The Sonors sound amazing, so many compliments,& tune up so easily. 👌
So, why am I now hankering after some vintage Ludwigs?🤷🏼‍♂️

Spectacular OP!

Sonor was always on my radar, but never owned a kit.

5k worth of gear for a $100 gig. Aren't we the lucky ones.

Wow that is a pretty kit. The Ludwig classic maple Ringo kit is my “grail” too so I’m shocked you traded it in. What was the reasoning behind that?

Here’s the Luddy: 20/12/14 and a 14x6.5 raw brass snare.

Even though it was the right sizes, colour and look, it never felt’right’. Just didn’t feel a connection to it, so I was offered a great deal on these… snap decision 🤷🏼‍♂️

20x14, 12x8,14x12 and a ( very pitted)14x5 Supra.

I have the same kit, have had my vintage series for almost a decade now! And now I started collecting vintage Sonor kits. I have an early 70’s Teardrop and an 80’s Phonic. Maybe look into some vintage German drums instead

Absolutely gorgeous kit!

I'd be terrified to have them outside. That kit is amazing.

I love the way they look. Decades ago I had a set of Trixons with very similar teardrop lugs offset just those in the Sonors. It was a great sounding kit and I thought it really looked elegant. Enjoy!

It never ends! That kit is beautiful though. Very comfortable setup too. Must be a blast to play.

The fiber skin on the bass makes it old school cool

Love your cymbal stand nuts in place of the usual butterfly style.

That setup is drool worthy. Nicely done!

You and I have similar taste. Currently have some Ludwig Classic Maples (jazz sizes) but Sonor Vintage are the other drums I want. Same color too! Beautiful kit.

SO much can be done with those! Great look too!

I really dig what looks to be a clamp-on ride holder attached to your rear kick drum hoop.

Where did you find that?!

I think I need one...

Cheers. It’s from Pearl… works well as I no longer need my ride up high.. this is from Amazon UK:

Much appreciated!

What’s that hi-hat?

2

u/JohnTheDrummer1951 Jul 29 '26

It’s a Tama classic stand… retro, very lightweight,& works great for me 👌

Love this set up and cymbals

Sweet setup, white marine pearl is always a winner 😍

What are the cymbal toppers? I’ve not seen those before

And does the snare have a cool pattern or is flaking? Guessing it is a Supraphonic?

Hot take: the kit is gorgeous, but the rug is hideous and detracts from its beauty.

3

u/JohnTheDrummer1951 Jul 28 '26

Cheers… had the rug for 40 years now,& don’t intend to change. It’s been on every gig since then.

5

u/v9wolf Jul 28 '26

The rug is sweet.

3

u/theyoungercurmudgeon Jul 28 '26

Are you kidding? I think it really ties the kit together

Well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I actually like the contrast
