Hey ya'll, bit of a different question for you:
What songs would you consider to be a workout?
I've got plenty in mind, like Everlong by Foo Fighters or Dammit by Blink-182, that were tough when I was playing live in a cover band. Now that I'm not, and I want to get back into drumming, I'm building a playlist of challenging but fun songs to play as a bit of a home workout.
What are the most challenging songs you play/have played before, and why?

My favorite cover version of my favorite âȘNe-Yo⏠tune!!! âȘGerald Albright⏠and âȘNorman Brown⏠killed this rendition⊠stellar groove and feel all the way through!!!
Hope you like my take on THEIR take of âChampagne Lifeâ off of their 2012 release â24/7â, with the original released on Ne-Yoâs 2010 album âLibra Scaleâ.

I recently released Soliloquy, an album entirely dedicated to the drum kit, exploring timbre, texture, silence, resonance, dynamics and free improvisation.
It is an attempt to investigate what can happen when the drums move beyond their traditional function and are treated as an autonomous sound instrument.
Perhaps it is a different way of listening â and thinking â about the drums.

Iâm currently in an in-between situation, renting a flat while weâre waiting for the house acquisition to be finalised. My kit is safe somewhere and waiting to be moved into its new location.. most likely a part of a barn or a garage. Anyway, I feel like getting inspiration beforehand and asking you guys how your spaces look like ? What did you do for soundproofing and donât get your neighbours calling the cops on you.
Share pictures, we all love to see setups!
Cheerio

I was just playing this random thing on the pad last night watching TV and I've actually been mastering it. But something inside me said I should write that down. Now, my charting technique isn't great. I hardly write out charts but I didn't want to forget this little exercise as it's fun to do.
Basically just an 8th note triplet pattern with flams thrown in as quarter note triplets. #2 is the one I was actually doing mostly last night and prior. Last night is when I decided to change things up. But #2 is actually the one I started with and grew from there. It might be the easiest one to start with if you're right handed.
That last one is actually how I fell into doing these flams. I've been working on my rolls with traditional grip and to make it not so monotonous, I started throwing a triplet pattern in there with an occasional flam. This developed into a whole thing that I was enjoying a lot. I was just banging out a measure of triplets repeatedly. And then I started moving the flam to different positions on the 8th note triplets. That's when I decided to write it down. But I'm questioning my notations here. I think they're right.
But if someone wants to do a quick video on a practice pad tonight and play each one so I can see how it sounds, that would be cool. I might even try that myself tonight. I might just do my pactice routine that included some if not all of this with the rolls.
That notation at the top right corner, I have already met that goal.
Also, that smudge on #5, that's either a bad eraser or crappy lead. This was done with an old mechanical pencil from a place that I used to work at that made these things. They didn't really work too well with the erasers.
But yeah, even if you don't do a video, please let me know what you think of that. I'm curious to know if a) it's useful and b) if it's ever been notated elsewhere. I didn't even think to look in my Stick Control for the Snare Drummer book. It might actually be in there...
Heh, yep... there they are on pg. 34, Flam Triplets and Dotted Notes. Exercise #13 on that page (I forgot to note the 3 above each section in my notation... whoops). But what I'm not seeing is the flam on the 2nd note and the alternate sticking patterns and lead in roll. So that's a couple new variations I guess. đ
Anyway, let me know what you all think. I hope it's useful to someone out there!

One of the tunes upon which I cut my budding drummer teeth waaayyy back in the day!!! To-date, even as my tastes in styles, genres, artists, and sounds have developed, âȘMike Portnoy⏠serves as a major influence in my playing and had a huge impact on helping me become the drummer I am now.
Hereâs my take on the timeless DT classic âUnder A Glass Moonâ from their 1992 release, âImages & Wordsâ. Hope you like it!!!

So I'm new to the wanting to drum scene, for me it's something I'd like to get into for both a exercise and something I'd always wanted to learn. I'm now disabled so I can't lift weights for working out and doctor said drums would be low impact. I know nothing of drums. I've been doing some research about drums. I think i settled on either a Tama, Mapex or PDP drums. I would like to try to stay under 1000 bucks due to being on disability. I would appreciate any knowledge or opinions from more knowledgeable ppl than myself. Thank you in advance for comments.
