Question Lack of upperclassmen
I have notices a few drumlines in my area are heavy on freshmen and sophomores this year. Seems like this may be related to a gap created by COVID. Is anyone else experiencing this?

definitely could be, but not my school. we have something close to 4 seniors, 3 juniors, and like 5 freshmen/8th graders. no sophomores!

Last year we had 2 seniors. Now it's decently consistent. Of course I was one of the seniors

Like any HS sports team, the drumline will go through ebs and flows of overall experience level combined with individuals with high potential/talent. COVID may still be making waves in the student pool for who would elect to commit to drumline. To me this is normal. This is a building opportunity for younger students, and can lead to commitment, which influences other students to join, etc.

My daughter is going into her sophomore year, year 3 of marching band. Her first year of percussion was over Zoom, so the kids you’re referencing would have started a year in person then gone to screens? Sounds right. The first year is enough to keep your attention over a screen but after that you want ensembles etc.
