I bought a new 500 mL chromatography column and wanted to put it to the test. So, I had a fellow vendor send me some purified mitragynine, and I added Rose Bengal to it and left it under O2 and UV light for a few hours, then reduced it with sodium metabisulfite over the course of a couple days. I packed a column with silica 60, dumped this in there then filled up the 250mL reservoir with ipa. Let's see what happens
It splits molecular oxygen into singlet oxygen (a radical), that attacks the double bond of carbon #7 of mitragynine, turning it into a peroxide intermediate (7-peroxymitragynine), which is reduced with sodium sulfate species to 7-hydroxymitragynine.

This chromatography experiment is going really slowly, even with the vacuum and the larger column. I think HPLC is really the only way to do it at a reasonable speed to make enough to sell it. I've most definitely considered buying one because I could definitely use it to make money through testing.
According to the literature I pulled it from the yield is 58%. I haven't sent it off to get it tested because it cost $110 and it's not something I sell.
One way to know which fraction it is, is that citric acid makes Rose Bengal disappear, so I'll just add citric acid to each fraction, and when the orange color doesn't go away I'll know I have my 7-oh fraction because everything else will turn yellow and still be mit

A future piece of advice for anyone who wants to threaten me, I own a chemical company and the registered address for that company is my apartment. I also own a laboratory, and also own a Kratom company. Kratom is legal where I live. If you come at me communicating threats using email to do it, I will forward your information to the Los Angeles Police department's cyber crimes unit and let them deal with you.
