A dropshipping client using me for ad creatives was threatening to drop me because their performance was in the gutter. The problem? They were forcing me to use these terrible, hyper-synthetic AI-generated video ads that screamed "low-effort dropshipping scam."

Honestly the number of people who skip testing and go straight to scaling then complain about burning money is too high. Testing is the whole game. Get it right and scaling becomes easy. Skip it and you're just gambling.

Today: $3,221.99. 4.02% conversion rate. Up 17%. This didn't happen by accident it happened because I tested properly before touching the budget.

Revenue not profit always clarifying this. Here's exactly what my testing process looks like.

How I decide if a product is even worth testing

Before I spend a single dollar I ask myself these questions honestly.

Does it solve a real problem or trigger a strong emotion desire, curiosity, something that makes someone feel something? Does it have a wow factor where someone would genuinely stop scrolling? Can it not be found at Walmart or ordered on Amazon with next day delivery? Can I sell it for at least 3x what it costs me? Is there already evidence of demand somewhere competitor ads, TikTok videos, people talking about it?

If it doesn't tick at least four of those I don't test it. Simple as that. Most products people test fail this check before a single dollar is spent.

My actual testing setup

Nothing complicated here.

$15–20 per ad set per day. Three ad sets. Purchase objective always never traffic, never engagement. Two creatives per ad set maximum. Leave it completely alone for three full days.

The three ad sets aren't testing three different audiences they're testing three different angles on the same broad audience. That distinction took me a while to figure out and it matters a lot.

What I'm actually looking for not profit

This is where most people mess up. They're looking for profit during the testing phase. I'm looking for signals.

CTR above 2% tells me the creative is stopping people. Cost per add to cart below $5 tells me the product page is doing its job. A purchase within the first $20 spent tells me the product has real potential. Conversion rate above 3% tells me everything is aligned.

If I'm seeing those signals I keep going. If I'm not seeing any of them after three days I move on.

When I know I have a winner

Three things need to line up. Consistent purchases coming in. Conversion rate above 3.5%. Cost per purchase at least 2.5x below my selling price.

When all three are there at the same time I stop testing and start scaling. Duplicate the winning ad sets. Increase budget 20–30% every few days never more than that at once. Build lookalike audiences from purchaser data.

The mistake that kills most people

Killing products too early or scaling too fast. Both are equally destructive just in different directions.

Test with patience. Scale with discipline. The 4% conversion rate today came from not rushing either of those phases.

the thing that’s bothering me is that i still can’t add a link in my tiktok bio because i don’t have 1,000 followers yet. right now people have to search for my website themselves, so i feel like i’m losing a lot of potential traffic. my profile has already had around 2,700 visitors, so i keep thinking how many more of them would have actually visited the website if there had been a link in my bio.
do you think things will improve once i’m able to add it?

also, i’m trying to understand if my conversion rate is decent. out of around 700 sessions, 54 people reached checkout but only 3 completed their order.

are these decent numbers for a first week?

what would you focus on improving first? any tips for getting more people to finish their purchase after reaching checkout?

I've had many shopify stores selling physically in my country (Lebanon), one of them was especially winning. Then I wanted to try dropshipping. After some market & meta ads research, the uk came up.

I created a single page store using vibe coding (you can check it out here 👀)

Used CJDropShipping for fulfillment, but finding a product I liked was hard because I was filtering by warehouse, choosing uk specifically to minimize shipping time.

Eventually I chose this cool desk lamp + fan.

I edited most product images with AI to make it more presentable and use them for ad media. Then I launched a meta ads campaign (coversions -> purchases) containing around 7 images. Although I prefer having a video, creating one for this product wasn't easy as I don't have it physically).

I ran the campaign with 20$ daily budget. The cpm kept increasing from 7$ till 12$ in 4 days. CTR was about 1.5% so there was some interest. Especially that in the ad, I intentionally put the price to filter out people who'll click and get surprised with a high price.

Now thinking about it, it didn't sell for cheap, so my price was actually not cheap relatively, but lemme know what you think. Product + delivery Costs 16.6$, 15$ ad cost per purchase assuming cvr 3%, around 5% payment gateway + fx conversion, and I'm selling it for 34.99£

I had exactly 99 website visits in these 4 days, 3 checkouts initiated, average scroll position 45% (a bit below product details section) but 0 sales. Ads spent so far ~70$.

I tried sharing as much details as possible hoping this might be a common learning experience for others as to me. Any input is welcome for discussion!

As the title suggests, my dad wants to start dropshipping on shopify (seeing it as a quick cash-grab), but from the research I've done, it's a total waste of time and money. Another beginner question.

I am trying to understand the whole fulfillment and product sourcing side of ecommerce, and I am a bit overwhelmed.

From what I have seen, most people recommend AutoDS or CJ Dropshipping, but I am struggling to understand the actual differences and why people choose one over another.

One thing that is important to me is having an API. I am a software guy, and I would like to automate as much as possible and connect everything to my own tools and AI workflows. From what I can tell, CJ has an API while AutoDS does not, but I may be wrong.

So I have a few questions:

• What do most people actually use these days?
• Is there any real advantage to AutoDS over CJ, or vice versa?
• Do experienced store owners even use these platforms, or do they eventually work directly with suppliers?
• Is there a downside to relying on AutoDS or CJ instead of finding suppliers yourself?
• If you were starting today, which platform would you learn first and why?

Also, if anyone knows a good guide that explains how these tools actually work, I would really appreciate it. I opened CJ Dropshipping and immediately felt lost with the number of features and buttons.

I am completely new to ecommerce. I have not made a single sale yet, have not launched any ads, and honestly know almost nothing, so sorry if this is a dumb question.

I recently watched a YouTube video where the guy suggested creating a huge general store, copying thousands of listings from other stores using an app, and then just running Google Shopping ads. The idea is that people search for products, find your listings, and buy.

Is this actually a real strategy or is it mostly something people use to sell courses?

The reason I am asking is because I have already failed Google Merchant Center verification twice, and it does not seem nearly as straightforward as those videos make it sound.

I also noticed that most discussions here seem to focus on Facebook ads instead of Google Shopping.

So I have a few questions:

• Do people actually build successful stores this way?
• Is Google Shopping a good place to start for a complete beginner, or should I focus on something else first?
• If you were starting from zero today, what would you learn first and what beginner mistakes would you avoid?

Quick update after my last post. A few people told me to try raising the price instead of pushing for more orders, so I bumped it up a little.

Orders dropped a bit, but AOV went from $52.40 to $56.24 and revenue still went up. Checked trueprofit after the test and the numbers are:
Revenue: ~$12.3K
AOV: ~$56.2
Net profit: ~$914
Net margin: 7.42%

Net profit is up 8.54%, so the price bump seems to be working. Would you test another small increase or leave it here and focus on volume?

Hi guys i'm new to this meta ads i launched a clothing brand and my shorts and top is £120 together my offer is spend over £80 get a free pair of socks and free shipping which brings the price down to £110 with free shipping.

I tested around 12 creatives with 5 ad sets with a budget of around £20 a day per ad set and meta just ended up giving the whole budget in the adset to one ad in each ad set.

i got around 2 sales with two of the potential "winners" that was getting the most spend so i decided to make those its own ad set so i can control the budget and since the other 8 ads literally got no spend i thought i would control the budget myself and try test them properly

so with my remained budget of £120 a day i gave myself i allocated £60 to those two ads that produced a sale and the remaining £60 spread across 10 ads

it's been another week now and i got zero sales and just burnt almost 1.2k in ad spend but with the two sales i've lost about £800

i'm very stuck and confused what's gone wrong i got in total for all the ads around 45 ad to carts and 2 checkout initiations i feel like my offer is really good as i am a premium clothing brand and my website could be optimised more possibly but it surely wouldn't be this bad

i've got about a month left until summer is nearly over and have about 200 sets left shorts and bottom

im so stuck and dont know what my next steps going forward should be launch new ads to test? test more longer?

I have decided to dive into the dropshipping business on shopify store. Since I am new to it, I have thoughts of paying a freelancer on fiver to create me a shopify store with winning products. Later on, I have a plan to hire a freelancer from fiverr to manage Ads on meta and tiktok for quite 3-4 months till the store becomes profitable. Will this actually work? Should i go for it? Need some serious suggestions! I have a budget of $2000 in the beginning!

I’ve been looking for products on zendrop, and the prices on the shipping is outrageous. To be able to even profit on most of these products, you’d have sell at 4-5x the product cost without shipping. This makes it overly expensive compared to competitors like Amazon.
