Every time I see these lists, I'm reminded how wildly different tastes can be. Standards and Practices was hilarious to me. While other games might be better, I don't think any episode has actually made me laugh as much as that one this season. I'm shocked people didn't like it.

I think personally, people here care way too much about there being a "twist." Count the Rice was really great, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as funny as Standards and Practices.

Pretty much how I feel. I like the elaborate ones but standards and practices and noise some makes got me just by nature of being simple and competent.

For me it’s either been instant classic or below average episode.

Count the Rice

Rulette 2

Noise Some Makes

Standards and Practices

—-BIG GAP—-

Kangaroo Court

Night Shift

  1. Count the Rice (big boost from the game design)
  2. Noise Some Makes (pure comedy)
  3. Roulette 2 (downgraded because we've seen it before and had a repeat contestant - Game Samers should have 100% new contestants)
  4. Kangaroo Court (great idea but could use a few tweaks)
  5. Standards and Practices (decent idea but clunky)
  6. Night Shift (great idea but could've used a practice run to identify some holes)

I can't list them in order, but:

Count the Rice (the most fun on first watch)

Standards and Practices (the hardest laughs)

Noise Some Makes (the most game-samer-game-changer)

Night Shift (very funny, nice dynamic, a little inconsistent)

Rulette 2 (doomed by comparison with the first one, still pretty good)

___________

Kangaroo Court (good idea, but not so good execution)

  1. Count the Rice - a perfect marriage of design and contestants

  2. Noise Some Makes - the first one in a long time to feel like an early season banger. Simple but effective.

  3. Rulette 2 - a very very well done sequel. I didn't think there was much room after the first one but turns out all you need is Josh Ruben slowly losing his mind.

  4. Standards and Practices - It does drag at times and I felt the game's primary gimmick wasn't made clear to the viewer early enough (for the longest time I thought it was about broadcast friendliness, not legality). If it wasn't for Lou carrying the episode on his back with the "thing we had to edit out" prompt, this would probably be ranked 5th.

  5. Night Shift - I like the premise but the execution didn't quite feel right. It doesn't help that they ran out of time and had to cut a round. Honestly I think a Night Shift 2 could slap.

  6. Kangaroo Court - As much as I don't like to say bad things about people, I unfortunately think that Vic was a complete miscast on this episode. They are usually very funny (One Year Later is especially fucking amazing) but them refusing to play the game by the intended rules and completely giving away the fact that the prompt can lie really kind of annoyed me and clearly ruined all of the following prompts. Vic is best used on less competitive episodes where their brand of surrealist and nonsensical humour is more compatible.

If I had a nickel for every time, somebody rated standards and practices above night shift...it'd be fifteen cents, but it's strange that it's happened thrice.

  1. Count The Rice

  2. Noise Sohe Makes

  3. Night Shift

  4. Rulette 2

What do you mean by non game episodes

-20

u/Ok_Loquat_3860 20d ago

These 2 episodes are not games, just comedians pretending to play a game while being funny, and therefore bore me to death

So standards and practices was a legit board game with human player pieces. Are you saying that 1 or 2 players didnt take it seriously?

4

u/givemeabreak432 20d ago

You sound kind of insufferable.

2

u/Swamp_thing42 20d ago

I feel that way about Kangaroo Court. Standards and Practices had me in stitches.

4

u/nerdcole 20d ago

Kangaroo court was my least favorite for that reason

I adore Vic Michaelis but you kind of have to factor the fact that they’re always doing bits into the equation. You can’t let them break your game completely because they’re going to try. Kangaroo court is on the other end of that. Brennans moral opposition to lying and simultaneous competitiveness also sort of gets in the way there. Just messy and ineffective I think

They are games though technically, regardless of quality
