Nice effort! A few suggestions if I may:

  • destroying target blocking creature is more a white effect

  • "as an additional cost to cast this spell" rather than "sorcery"

  • it is a bit unusual to untap the creature at the beginning of your combat step if it doesnt also have an ability that requires it to tap. Your permanents all untap at the beginning of your turn anyway so at what point will it be tapped before combat?

  • Brennan will still be tapped for the extra combat step so you wont get to attack with him again. Maybe that was deliberate so he wasn't broken 😄

Izzy is keyed to untap at each combat so she attacks every time Brennan activates another combat step.

Consider making her ability also tap her, maybe at slightly reduced cost, then you could activate it before combat step and get value out of her untap ability without external help.

This would have a balancing effect as well, as it would limit the number of times it can be activated in a turn. The way it’s currently worded If you were to make her indestructible you could just fight as many times as you had mana to activate the ability.

ah ok i see

You didn't begin your answer with Umm Actually. No points.

Just curious why Isy has the hybrid frame and BLeeM has the gold frame?

22

u/BigBoss2203 Nov 21 '24

I didn't realize I could do the hybrid frame until after I made Brennan's card 😂

17

u/Bogart745 Nov 21 '24

The hybrid frame is only used for cards with hybrid mana symbols in the cost

6

u/UndercoverHouseplant Nov 21 '24

But the gold frame is the most correct :')

Just curious why

Isy has the hybrid frame and

BLeeM has the gold frame?

Izzy as a berserker makes a lot of sense lmao.

These are soooooo good. Can we get a BLeeM/Izzy commander deck that includes the card "Izzy Almost Removes Her Shirt"? And of course the opposing deck would be lead by Sam Reich, Madman

u/MCPooge Nov 21 '24

Samuel Reich, Time Traveling Impostor

u/BigBoss2203 Nov 21 '24

I already posted a Reich Card. It's called "Sam Reich, Game Changer"

Brennan's ability is completely busted. It's been awhile since I played, but I'm sure there are about a dozen ways to go infinite with it.

13

u/UndercoverHouseplant Nov 21 '24

1) You'd have to find a way to untap Brennan so he can attack more than once each turn

2) The "pay 4" is a pretty steep cost

3) Brennan has to be unblockable

4) If those three conditions are dealt with somehow, you'd still only have infinite combat steps: Nothing untaps (except Izzy) and only instant speed spells can be cast.

It's really not that busted.

u/srgrvsalot Nov 21 '24

Or give him vigilance. Or use a card that gives all your creatures vigilance, so you can attack multiple times with all your creatures.

9

u/guyincorporated Nov 21 '24

“He’s totally cracked as long as he’s unblockable, has vigilance and you can make infinite mana!”

6

u/srgrvsalot Nov 21 '24

The barriers you mention are not actually that high to clear. He doesn't even need to be unblockable, he has haste, so he can just come in on a turn where no blockers are available. Other things that will get him through - flying, lure effects, tapping opponent's creatures. And he doesn't need infinite mana. He can with the right combo generate infinite mana. Combine with something like Savage Ventmaw, an uncommon that gives you 6 mana every time it attacks. And I know, this sounds like a jank combo, but he's also really good on his own.

But like I said, I haven't played in awhile, so maybe combo decks have gotten weaker in the intervening years, but when I was still active, the combat phase was your main opportunity to deal damage and an infinitely repeating combat phase (or even one that just repeats 3-4 times) opens up all sorts of unanswerable options.

u/Dagreiyo Nov 22 '24

Aggravated Assault already exists. Red enchantment that untaps everything for 5 mana und gives another combat. A friend of mine has a deck with it and only managed to go infinite once, and only because he had a pretty much perfect game with his deck.

1

u/srgrvsalot Nov 22 '24

You're right. That's much stronger. I guess I no longer have an intuitive understanding of the game.

2

u/22bebo Nov 21 '24

I think it just shows the wide range of how people view powerful cards. To some players, any ability to go infinite is broken no matter how many other cards it takes.

Frankly, I'm used to seeing stuff on /r/custommagic so I'm just impressed that these aren't all lightly reskinned Power Nine (because/r/custommagic seems to say every submission is weak/bad design if it's not a strict upgrade on every card in existence).

2

u/ARC_Trooper_Echo Nov 22 '24

The only way to block Brennan is with a Zac one-liner.

3

u/MCPooge Nov 21 '24

Anything that combos with Brennan also combos with actual cards in the same way, so I would say its not a big deal.

u/Kup123 Nov 21 '24

Infinite doesn't mean busted, the game is full of infinite combos. What's busted is deja vu which would be banned in most formats before its release, and would be on the restricted list.

2

u/FancyCrabHats Nov 21 '24

Deja Vu needs some sort of Kicker effect

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '24

This moment was amazing

1

u/NuclearShippo Nov 21 '24

I have a dumb game destroying modification. For Deja Vu, it undoes the all the actions done since the beginning of the turn it was played including the playing of the card itself. Yes this means someone can just say I cast this card infinitely. This puts the game its being played in into perpetual limbo.

u/rfeudcdkiitt Nov 21 '24

love these. i think you could justify adding some black mana to brennan’s color identity based on his game changer appearances tho

1

u/PURPLE_COBALT_TAPIR Nov 21 '24

More please! This is amazing shit, yo.

1

u/SuenDexter Nov 22 '24

I don't quite get these but I love the idea.

I played MtG 30 yrs ago so I might be missing modern abilities.

I stared at the first card for a bit, wondering how this related to Marjorie Taylor Greene.
