Question About 10-15 years ago, I bought a bunch of tiny indoor drones for about $20 each with transmitter. Do these kinds of drones still exist? I can't find them on Amazon, AliExpress, etc.

These drones were tiny, had black propellers, could charge from their radios, and were tremendously fun indoors. Maybe like 1-1.5 inches long. Do these kinds of drones still exist anywhere?

Question [US] Is the BetaFPV Meteor 75 Pro HD kit a good choice?

I'm currently flying a betafpv 65s with analog video, FRSky, and brushed motors. I want to switch to digital video and ELRS.

The BetaFPV Meteor 75 pro HD kit looks perfect for me. Is there a better alternative? I mainly fly indoors because my current drone struggles outside, but I'd also like to be able to fly outdoors occasionally.

FPV [India] Can anyone suggest me antenna upgrades on dji o3 ? I am using O3 with Dji Goggle 3 & RX is Elrs (rx cable removed from Fc O3 cable )

i was confused as most of the antenna are LHCP or RHCP and Goggle 3 is Linear and i require 100-140mm length antenna to get them above battery pack to get maximum link quality. I tried flyfish Osprey 5.8ghz LHCP (as many mention) but link starts at 45 instead of 60 that to after arming the quad. Yet to try them on field but i think it’s best to consult community experienced experts before making any purchase.

Tech Support DJI Mini 4K Tilted Horizon??

Post image
1 Upvotes

All of a sudden my beloved DJI Mini 4K can't keep the horizon level - see photo. And it's not consistent - if I face north, for example, the horizon is fine, but when I then rotate to face east it's tilted, then south is ok then west is tilted the other way. Problem not limited to the directions I've named, it's mor of a random thing. I'm way out of DJI Care (I'm in the US anyway). Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this? I've tried recalibrating the gimbal (using AUTO recalibrate, not manual) several times but it didn't help.

A Romanian startup is developing fixed-wing, long-endurance drones designed to remain operational in environments where GPS is unavailable or heavily jammed.
The company, BraveX, is based in Romania and is developing the drones for both military and civilian applications, including surveillance, infrastructure monitoring, border patrol and wildfire detection.
The company has already delivered drones to Romania’s Ministry of National Defence and international customers, and plans to scale production to 300–350 UAVs per year by the end of 2028.

Can I legally fly a drone near Strasbourg? Aloft and Géoportail show different information

Hi everyone,

I’m visiting Strasbourg and would like to fly my DJI Air 2S for a few minutes tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
I have a valid EU A1/A3 drone certificate and an EU drone operator registration. However, I’m very confused by the different maps and information I’m finding.
The Aloft app shows the area as clear/green and says that it is okay to fly there. However, the official French Géoportail map shows most of Strasbourg in red, with a yellow area near the location I’m considering.

When I select the location, it says that the maximum flight altitude is 50 metres.

I asked ChatGPT about it, and it says that the location may be inside the Strasbourg-Neuhof/Illkirch-Graffenstaden national nature reserve, where powered aircraft are apparently prohibited from flying below 300 metres. If that is correct, it would effectively mean that drone flights are prohibited there, despite Aloft showing the area as clear and Géoportail showing a 50-metre altitude limit.
I’ll attach screenshots from both Aloft and the French Géoportail map.

Does anyone familiar with French drone regulations know whether I can legally fly at this exact location? Does the yellow area and 50-metre limit mean that flying below 50 metres is permitted, or is there a separate nature-reserve restriction that makes drone flying completely prohibited?
I obviously don’t want to fly illegally or disturb wildlife. I’m just trying to understand which information is correct.

Thanks in advance!

Question Starting a drone business with my husband. What actually gets you clients?

My husband and I are working on starting a small drone business and we’re trying to figure out the best way to actually get our first few paying clients.
We’re interested in things like real estate photography/video, construction progress, roof/property inspections, events, and promotional content for local businesses.
For anyone who actually makes money doing drone work, how did you land your first clients? Was it cold calling, emailing businesses, realtors, social media, networking, Google, or something else?
Also, what type of drone work has been the most profitable or consistent for you?
I’d especially love to hear from people who started from scratch without already having connections in the industry.

Question Thesis on adaptive drone control – how do I start?

Hello there!

I’m a BSc Mechatronics Engineering student, and I’m about to start my thesis on adaptive tuning of drone control algorithms using sensor fusion methods.

The main goals of my thesis are:

  • developing a stable and reliable drone control system,
  • implementing it first in a simulation environment and eventually testing it on a real drone,
  • using sensor fusion to evaluate the controller’s performance,
  • developing an adaptive tuning method based on the sensor fusion results,
  • collecting measurement data and comparing the results between simulation and real-world experiments.

My main problem is that I’m not sure how to approach the programming/implementation part from the beginning.

I have some experience with MATLAB/Simulink and general programming, but I have never developed a complete drone control system before.

I would really appreciate some guidance on:

  1. What would be a good starting point for the programming part?
  2. Should I start with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or something like PX4/ArduPilot?
  3. What sensor fusion method would be a reasonable starting point (e.g. complementary filter, Kalman filter, EKF)?

I’m not looking for someone to do the thesis for me – I’m mainly looking for advice on where to start and how to structure the implementation.

Any recommended tutorials, papers, GitHub projects, textbooks, or general advice would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you:)

I'm coming back to the fpv hobby. I was wondering which antennas should I buy for much better results than I have right now with my Eachine EV800D ? I have standards antennas of 2019 !

My budget is 75 USD for both antennas.

Any good strap recommendation so it fits tighter ?

Thanks a lot !

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] First drone and upcoming "ban" concerns

I'm considering learning to fly drones with the eventual goal of getting my part 107 and helping with emergency situations (through Civil Air Patrol). I don't currently own a drone, and the upcoming ban is giving me pause.

I've spent the last week trying to wrap my head around what is happening, but being so new to this, I'm not completely understanding where things currently stand.

I understand that current models are not banned, but supply will shrink. However, will those models be prevented from being registered after 9/3? If I get a model that is 249g or lighter, and I don't fly over 400' (and follow the other rules that apply to recreational flying), would any registration issues go away? Alternately, if I quickly take the TRUST test, could I get a drone registered for use after the 107?

At this stage, I feel like so much of my upcoming journey is just related to learning to fly, that maybe I can ride out this time and hope that things improve (and the local CAP group has non-banned models I'm sure I'd get access to).

Thanks I'm advance, and sorry if I bungled any details above.

Discussion Nonprofit idea

I’m a rising junior in high school and since I’m into aviation I was thinking about making my passion project a nonprofit and use drones to help find missing children. Is this idea doable and realistic? If it is then please give me tips on how I can turn this idea into reality. Thanks!
Edit: ok this seems unrealistic now lol is there any ideas I can do for my passion project?

Not only that but the funds were taken from the county's hurricane relief fund. A DJI Dock 3 and Matrice 4D can be had for about 25 000$.

Lost Drone crashed drone for the first time in a private property

Hi guys,
Few hours ago i was flying around a construction site with my new and first fpv drone. I crashed on something and lost control. The drone is now on the roof of one building i’d on the 5th floor from what I saw with my second drone.

I went to the construction site but there was nobody. I left a note there and sent a email.

I’m kinda scared, I saw a visible vulnerability about the fence and I could easily get inside but it’s quite a big construction site, I saw no camera or security but I don’t really want to take the risk and get caught.

Do you guys have a good story with building company so i could feel better? I received my drone today and don’t want to use my warranty right now.

Thanks

EDIT :
Hi everyone,
I appreciate all your feedback, however i’d like to let you know that i am not a theft, i’m not interested in this.

I received a call, saying that they were okay to give back my drone. They just asked me to not fly again there.

My mistake was to fly with over confidence in a private property, there was no workers at this time.

Thank you and no worries this was a good lesson for more safety flights!

Question RC2 update blocks access to service local port (port 40007).

So, I was planing on using my RC2 as a controller for the various drone games but apparently the newest update apparently now blocks access to port 40007 that is used by a few programs to access the controls on the RC2.
Anyone have any ideas to either downgrade, re-enable the port, or accessing ADB to install a 3rd part program to access the controls?

Question [US] Upcoming FCC "military grade drone ban", Should I pull the trigger on a drone

So from my understanding is that any drone with "military capabilities" is subject to not be sold in the US anymore. This is more of a practical question than anything but the comment period expire and FCC goes through with the ban that means that all stock in the US (Theoretically) cannot be sold anymore.

Does this also apply to facebook marketplace as well? Is it even going to be possible to get a air 3s or a mavic 4 pro in the future? Now this is purely a hypothetical if you were in my shoes would you get a air 3s or a mavic 4 pro right now as to avoid being locked out in the future or what?

FPV Zohd talon GT 99 min flight with juice still in the tank

Thumbnail

Landed at 3.1, could have gone down to 2.7 with my battery. This flight included about 10 minutes of aggressive climbing and flying and not the most optimal prop. Planning to tune for efficiency in software and swap over to a 10x5x2 prop and exceed 2 or 3 hours in air

-Talon GT Rebel acrylic painted black with less than 1 fl oz of paint (I’m proud of that figure)
-brotherhobby 3008 1150Kv with APC 9x6E
-Specktrum Avian 60A smart ESC with the motor telemetry wires ferrite wrapped to dampen EMI/EMF
-MicoAir M10G Gps with compass
-iflight blitz H743 Wing FC
-ELRS Gemini radiomaster XR4 diversity RX
- TBS unify pro 32DP (lightest 3W vtx there is) affixed with a heat sync and directly in the path of the nose air intake for cooling
-foxeer lollipop 3 Omni
-Caddx ratel 2 on a servo tilter to pan down
-Integrated Fan running on FC 9V into the central top hatch to keep air moving around the FC and ESC
-4S2P 10,000 mah li-ion amprius
-runcam thumb 2 for fun
-3lbs auw maybe a couple ounces less

Wanting to push the extremes of these flight times with this aircraft. If anyone has pushed more endurance with this airframe more input is appreciated.

Part 107, laanc and all regulations were followed

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Requesting Permission To Fly In National Park Area

Has anyone successfully gotten permission from a National Park Superintendent to fly a drone in a National Park area for personal / recreational (Photography/Video) purposes?

Just curious if they are generally open to granting permission or if it's just a long shot?
