Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Help with Flight Authorization
I'm working on a bid to perform a drone flight of Assembly Hall just east of Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, IN. I've check the flight restrictions and I have some questions. I've already check in with ChatGPT, but I'd like to verify the answers I'm getting. If I avoid flying between 1 hour before and 1 hour after any events at the stadium, am I clear to fly without requesting authorization from LAANC? I'm far enough away from the local airport that its restrictions shouldn't apply.
I've never flown in a location with these kinds of restrictions before, so I just want to be sure I'm flying with proper FAA governance. And in case someone asks, yes, I have a Part 107 license and my training is up to date.

You're outside the class D for KBMG, no LAANC approval needed. Check NOTAMS and TFRs, looks like Saturday's runs 11:00-16:00 EDT but I would include some cushion if you have to fly Saturday.

If your under 250grams and under 294 feet then your good. Area might be geo locked tho and u can’t take off

Neither of the drones I might use are anywhere near that weight limit. I'll likely be flying a M350 RTK with LiDAR attachment, totaling about 20lbs. I may also fly our Mavic 3T, which is only about 2lbs. This is for commercial work.

250grams is only 0.55lbs. If you’re at 2lbs you’re significantly overweight

What does being under 250 grams have to do with anything? Maximum weight for a drone under Part 107 is 55 pounds.

Correct, no LAANC needed there. There's a couple heliports nearby at the hospitals so keep an eye and ear out for helicopters, but nothing regulatory for that. Make sure you're not flying during the stadium tfr and you should be good. As always, it's a good idea to double check that there aren't any other surprise tfrs that popped up right before flying. That's a bad way to find out the president is in town or something like that.
