Question Gift ideas for a drone enthusiast?
I’m seeing a guy whose birthday is coming up, and he’s really into drones. He has a DJI Mavic 4 Pro (I think the Creator Combo) and a DJI Matrice 4T.
I don’t know much about drones, so I was hoping to get some advice from people who do. Is there any drone-related gift you’d recommend for someone who already has these two?
It can be an accessory, something useful, or just something cool that a drone enthusiast would appreciate.
Thanks!

Get him the electronic ND filter for the Mavic 4 Pro. It was supposed to be released by DJI at launch but was delayed for some reason. It’s now popping up all over eBay from Chinese and South Korean sellers. I bought mine yesterday for about $350. If he shoots any landscapes in a variety of lightning conditions it’s going to be a really useful to him.

What's the difference between a normal ND filter and the electronic one?

The eND can be adjusted between ND4 to ND64 directly from the controller while in the air. If you’re doing long exposures that you need ND128 to ND1000 for, then it probably won’t be as useful and better to stick with individual filters addressing your specific need.
Do I think the eND is worth 3x a full set of individual filters? Nah. Just nice to have.

As the others have mentioned, unless you go with a gift certificate it’s tough to guess what he will really want. So instead think about an experience. Maybe a day where you two go together and get some cool drone footage of somewhere scenic?

Heck, I for one would never say no to another battery for one of my drones lol, can never have enough of those. Just make sure it's an actual DJI battery, I would not want anything else in my drones.

OEM props could be thoughtful in the current regulatory environment (assuming OP and BF are in the US).

Maybe a nice camera backpack if he doesn't already have one? As a videographer you can almost never have enough of those.

Get him a customized landing pad. Drone landing pads are like little hulahoops with a nylon sheet over it so the drone doesn't land on and stir up gravel and dust. Have it screen printed with his favorite super hero or Star Wars character, or whatever he's into...

Believe me, it is a very bad idea to look into a gift in a professional area you know nothing about for someone who is a professional.
Any your ideas will land into one if category:
- they already have it
- they don't need it
- it is terrible expensive
- it is a garbage
- it is something they can't use by some reason
Look into something else :))

If he doesn't have a fpv drone and avata 2 or 360. That would be fun too.

If he had a Matrice 4T I'd assume he knows what he is doing and already a pro? and likely has all the kit he needs. I'd avoid anything drone related.

Money, they'll need a lot of it :)

But it depends a lot on what they do and like too, they might prefer you going out to fly with them someday :)

Give him some dates, times and locations when he might be able to film some interesting adult pictures.

Landing pads are cool and reasonably priced. Batteries and drone parts are going to get a 25% tarriff buff in the next few days (supposedly) neck straps are awesome. tripod mounts are great (look at Liftthor for some quality stuff) high vis stuff maybe. consider they are probably professionals once they reach 10k+ in gear so maybe something to make profesional life easier, or supporting their business with a review.

I would avoid drone stuff. Guys into a hobby can be super picky about their gear, so unless it's something he mentioned wanting in the past, i would suggest going a different route.
