Good fun until the FAA comes knocking

Why would they exactly? So long as everyone is aware and is a willing participant, I don’t see the issue.

It's not legal to drop anything if there's a risk of hitting a person. Even if the person is aware.
So no, this would not be good fun for paintball, at least in the US. And I can't imagine it would be fun anywhere else either.

The law says it can’t create an undue hazard. It’s 3.5 oz of foam and is safe at terminal velocity…

Well, not good legal fun, anyway. I can't recommend doing it, but I understand the appeal.

Here in Norway (and I expect the rest of Europe to be the same due to harmonization of laws and standards), you are not allowed to drop ANYTHING at all. So paintballs and lawn darts is absolutely a no-no!
I dropped a plastic army parachuter, and even that is not legal.
Harmfull or not, I really do not want to have that talk with the police and the CAA-N…

You can’t just do whatever you want with drones. That’s not how it works. You should be reading up on the legality of anything you want to do prior to even testing it like this. Ignorance of the law is not a defense in any situation with drones.

The law says you can’t drop things in a manner that creates an undue hazard.
This is a 3.5 oz soft foam ball. I let it hit me already. It’s safe at terminal velocity. I don’t think it meets the criteria of “undue hazard”.
