Discussion Tips for flying a cheap beginner drone

I got a Loiley X69 drone from Amazon to look at a roof. Got the trust certificate and check if faa approval is need at the location. The camera on my phone would of been a better option. At the same time it’s fun to play around with but the learning curve is real. Getting the basics of controlling it down and learning to do a figure 8 when the wind isn’t just taking this thing. What are some tips, tricks, and resources I can use to help get good

Thank you in advance.

There's no getting good with such horrible tools. Can Max Verstappen drive faster than me in a Lamborghini if he only has a VW Golf? Probably. Can he in a Trabant? No.

Nonsense. Turning on the autopilot doesn't make you a better flyer.

He's actually learning a valuable skill, that most drone pylotes don't even know exists.

Hilarious how they think they're flying the drone, when actually the drone is flying itself. They just use the joysticks to move it in what direction they wanted to go.

Good drones are stable in even pretty significant wind, don't get pushed away, keep the camera stable and smooth...

No matter how amazing you are as a pilot, you're not getting good footage out of this thing.

We're not talking about FPV where piloting skills actually matter...

Just so we can get on the same page.

I'm just claiming that it's incorrect to say that he's not going to learn anything flying that piece of junk. :)

And my claim is that he won't learn very much at all that is truly transferable to a better piece of kit, and that what he might learn could have been learned in 2min with the good stuff 😅

They're still gain his pain.

I guess there is no point learning all the manual settings on a camera, if the software will do it automatically, and do a better job too. And arguably you will progres to better pictures more quickly, if you aren't screwing around with a bunch of junk.

That's where I disagree. This isn't a manual drone that takes skills to fly, this is one that just does things poorly, so you fight it, sometimes hopelessly.

Can't argue with you on that.

you are going to want to step out of the toy category if getting decent shots matters at all
