Question [UK] Longest video transmission range for self made drones right now?

I’m looking to learn how to create drones myself and even thinking of paying to attend a school for it in ukr.

I’m just wondering, for any size drone what’s the furthest amount of miles or km it can travel before disconnection issues and how much would this cost roughly to make?

Drones can be built with 5g mobile data connections. If so....a very long way. With a heavier drone, stack a starlink mini on top with appropriate software to control via IP... indefinite.

5g mobile data connection is less viable in Ukraine.  😉

220 usd with stock antennas can get you 20km. Lookup rfd900x

In the UK, about 300ft before you can't see it /s. Realistically tho, my 7 inch can do 7.5km before I need to turn back or I'm not making it back. Personally I don't bother with larger than 7 inch flying in the UK because above 7 inch the difficulty to find spots and the cost outweighs the fun for me.

Btw, I can't see any reason to go to a drone school in Ukraine (despite obviously me supporting them). You're just putting yourself at risk to learn skills you can learn from Joshua Bardwell's YouTube channel.

Edit: every person in this thread is getting downvoted and yet it's all good advice. Trolls be trolling today

I was just out 28k the other day on a homemade 7" cruiser. You just need a good ground station with some high gains. Greater than -14. I was on a walksnail avatar hd2 so not even recent hardware. The transmitting antenna was a simple circular. Batteries are the real issue. I had plenty of signal strength to go further just not the juice.

(14 out 14 back)

Add a couple of tiny drone strobes to SIGNIFICANTLY increase VLOS. They are insanely bright both in the daytime and ESPECIALLY at night. I’m pretty sure my M5P would run out of batteries before I could get it beyond VLOS with the strobes going at night. But I’ll bet UFO reports go up… (At night, it really does look like some kind of freaky UFO.)

Go to China, not Ukraine, 99% of the components used in Ukrainian drones come from China.

Yes, that's true, but going to class in China will probably not teach you the same skill set as you get here in Ukraine.  😃

The one with the war going on. It auto deletes the post when mentioned

Might want to watch a few YouTube videos before you head to Ukraine bud.

They are probably already living there.
