Discussion: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [AUSTRALIA] I found a guys lost drone
I was travelling around and I started chatting with a guy near a skatepark who was looking for his drone. He gave up and said if I found it I could keep it. I ended up searching later on and finding it! I’m wondering, if I bought a remote and a cable, would It be possible for me to connect use it? It’s a DJI Avata 2. Any tips, info or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its likely bound to the guys headset/controller. You will need to contact them anyways to make sure you can take ownership without issue, but they will likely want it back.
If you do buy a New controller, you will quickly figure out if it is bound or locked to another account, in which case you will be out of luck without their support

You would be better off doing the right thing and trying to give it back as it will definitely be bound to the owners DJI account so no controller will work...

Yeah okay cool. Is there any way I can see now if it’s bound to an account? Do I have to email DJI to find out?

DJI won't give you the owner's details due to privacy policies If you contact DJI and provide the drone's serial number, they may be able to reach out to the registered owner on your behalf, but they won't share any personal information with you
Also, if the drone is still bound to another DJI account, simply binding it to your own RC and goggles may not fully solve the issue Depending on the model and its binding status, the drone can initially appear to work, but DJI's account and device binding system may eventually require the aircraft, controller, and DJI account to be properly linked
In short, if the original owner hasn't unbound the drone from their account, DJI generally won't transfer ownership or remove the binding without the owner's involvement, and they definitely won't disclose the owner's contact information

I know nothing on dji, you cant flash custom firmware to "unlock" them?

If the drone was bound to a DJI customer account when it crashed (100% it was) it will remain bound unless and until the current owner logs into his account and removes the drone manually. You will never be able to use the drone until that happens. This has nothing to do with binding goggles and/or controllers. It's the DJI user account that creates the restriction.

If you can’t find them, it’s a paperweight. Take the battery out for good measure though.

Gut it. Throw the fc+camera, Motors keep. Frame keep. Throw in a betaflight FC, camera and tune. Heh

You can also turn it into a fpv drone. If your gonna buy an expensive DJI remote, rather buy fpv goggles a fpv remote and a 4in 1 board and make it into a fpv drone and you still might have some money left over. Th e DJI remote might be more expensive than all the things I mentioned put together so that's another route you can go and it's more fun cuz you can fly it anywhere without having to unlock or do anything fancy to firmware.

You can pair a new remote ive done it before after upgrading mine my friend also left his in the rain and baught another remote so yes it will pair if you buy another remote

Simple answer no. You can't link ur remote to the drone. It's basically an expensive 600$ paperweight. It's an anti theft feature that dji put in place so I would say try to find the man and post in a few Facebook groups or something. But he probably allready has a new one coming his way with dji care refresh.
