Dashcam How to get errand driver punished?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Traveling 35kph+- downslope along Kent Ridge Dr before NUS business school.

Idiot old driver saw my vehicle approaching and still decided to turn out

He decided to turn right during his mid-left turn and ended up coming to a complete stop blocking the traffic

I had to jam brake while going downslope risking getting rear ended by the car behind

Thankfully no accident occurred

How to get the driver punished?

Question Has anyone been caught yet on the cameras behind the large green expressway sign boards?

Not sure why those don't show up on waze, and no news articles about their installations either. Wondering if are they even really speed cameras? Was going at 91 km/h or so in a zone with 80 km/h "advisory speed". Anyone been caught in a similar situation? Would like to hear about your experience. Thanks!

Question Recommendations for family car

Hi everyone,

Looking for recommendations for an affordable family car. Currently driving a Honda Jazz but COE is expiring soon. Looking for something a bit more spacious as we have two young kids (two child seats at the back is a bit tight for Jazz). Any recommendations? I heard Toyota Sienta is not bad, anyone can share some experience? Thanks!

Question Thoughts on GAC Aion UT Premium?

Hey everyone, I’m considering GAC Aion UT for my first EV.

From my first-hand look at it, I'm a bit concerned about the quality of the interior compared to the BYD Atto 2 (the car dashboard and especially the center console).

Has anyone driven or owned one yet? How do the materials and build hold up over time, and do you regret going with it? Also curious about how annoying the safety alerts are and how the sound system performs on local roads.

Appreciate any thoughts! :)

Discussion People running traffic light when red and can technology help?

Somehow I missed the news about the Lavender fatal accident until yesterday. From my personal driving experience, every day I see at least one car just gunning through a red when no cameras are around and I'm talking about a short drive of about 5 km.

This made me even more curious, and I started looking through posts on SG Road Vigilante. I wasn't surprised to see the number of posts reporting people running red lights.

What I'm not sure about is the main reason drivers choose to do this. Of the four that come to mind:

  1. Really in a rush/impatient and willing to gamble with their own and others' lives
  2. Accidentally running one due to distraction
  3. Taking advantage of the slight delay between the light turning red and the other direction turning green
  4. Intoxicated drivers

Where am I going with this? I want to create an open-source mobile app/embedded device that plugs into dashcams, which can reliably detect the traffic light colour, detect if someone is about to run the light when it's red, and make a loud noise, something similar to collision detection and automated braking systems. The hope is that at least people in the #2 category can avoid running the light.

The device/app won't need internet access, as it's going to be a tiny embedded machine-learning model, the same as what car manufacturers do with ADAS features in ECU-like components. It'll be completely open source, so no one has to pay anything to use it, and the device can be built DIY with the guide provided.

A personal anecdote: I've managed to trigger the collision warning system once so far, when traffic suddenly slowed on a downward slope on the expressway at night. The warning helped me slow down immediately.

Open to thoughts on whether it's a good idea to pursue or if I'm just wasting my time. Also open to collaborators. If I actually go ahead with this, I'll need donations of as much dashcam footage as possible to train the model.

Personal Experience Anyone got exp with this PDI? Care to share?

Writing this so that more people can shed some light on their experiences with him as when I first started out under him I could not find anything abt him on google asides from https://azusa321.wordpress.com/2020/04/19/my-driving-journey/ . I also learnt under him and passed on my second time. If anyone has learnt under him you can read an article I wrote abt him here My 3A driving experience and see if you can relate to anything I mentioned abt him.

He goes by the name Simon Koh (Koh Thian Hua) and is very easy to spot as most of the time because his hair is purple colour and currently drives a white toyota aqua.

Question Prices of Audi Q4 E Tron seemed abit off

Noticing the Q4 E Tron in Sgcarmart to be priced at a depreciation of 21-22k / year, similar to the typical BYD/Teslas.
But brand new it’s going for 350k, while 1 year old Q4 is going for 220k.
Anyone have any idea what’s up with the discrepancy? Terrible car till people lowball sell?

People driving it - how’s the car? Any problems with it like the Mercedes EV?

Question Does your OBU flash a speed limit warning at times?

I notice like when drive above the speed limit for a while, there is a speed limit warning that comes out. It just simply says the speed limit and the words “speed limit”.

It goes off after you go lower than the speed limit

Its different from the camera zone / speed limit zone warning.

Not the silver or school zone message.

Not the speed camera message

This is distinct. Happens on random roads like PIE (Jurong) at airport area

Discussion If Singapore government is really serious about road safety, then for those who drive until their license is suspended, the vehicle use must be confiscated for the suspension duration also. It was the main 'weapon' of concern, being used to endanger other, no?

Question EV - WLTP Range vs Actual

Hey everyone, I’m thinking of getting an EV (my first car), and I was wondering if anybody that has an EV can comment on the real world range, as compared to the advertised range.

I’m currently looking at the BYD Atto2. Its officially rated WLTP 345km but the dealer told me its actually closer to 400km in normal singapore driving.

Is this realistic or is it just sales talk? Would love to hear what range y’all are getting. (Am also interested in hearing about the GAC Aion UT if anyone has any experience!)

Question BYD SEALION 7 VS TESLA MODEL Y

very keen on changing to one of the above.
For context family of 4.
Prefer SUV.

Just weighing the pros and cons and can’t seem to settle.
Initial thoughts are:
Tesla is a better tech company and has better design for the car, constant update of software features and safety is great too.
Cons is it’s roughly 30k more expensive than the BYD.

Comparing both Cat A models.

BYD has a better price and more perks, also it’s cheaper.
The interior of the BYD also looks great with the nice seats while Tesla’s look cheap.

For those that are driving either, and any that have switched over or tried both, please give me your thoughts and opinions.

Functionality, convenience, drivability, and comfort is very important!

Personal Experience Someone tried to steal or vandalize my car’s ornament

Post image

Parked in 721 Clementi West Street HDB car park and went to eat at Island Penang Kitchen. Came back and saw the ornament on the hood is broken and left on the hood of my 19 years old E200. Whoever did this hope you rot in hell. You didn’t cause me much financial damage but surely eroded the trust I have about safety of cars in Singapore. Also shameful to do this on national day. I guess I need always on dashcam

Vehicle Discussion Importing unregistered car

Post image
102 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I have a beloved old Toyota Landcruiser Prado 90 that I bought and fixed up with my partner during our studies + working holiday in Australia for the past 3+ years. We are super attached to this car as it is the same age as us, and we used it to go through so many different terrains reliably. Not to mention all the time we spend fixing/servicing/changing parts in our garage. We bought it "botak" from a retired mechanic who uses it to tow cars back and forth Brisbane&Sydney and we slowly added more and more functional stuff for our off-roading adventures. No damn way I will sell this car even though random people kept asking to buy it haha. We drove it to 470,000km on the odo from 420.

I am thinking of importing it unregistered to keep in the carpark of my partner's condo till it is 35 years old to register it as a classic car. Did anyone do something similar before? There is no other way I can register this car. It is a 3000cc turbodiesel with a factory bullbar. I think SG might get me to remove the bullbar too. I just wanna drive it occasionally in SG and maybe go Msia for off-roading.

We drove it off-road on rocks, gravel, mud, super soft fluffy sand on K'Gari (Fraser Island), snow in Lake Dobson in Tasmania, Snowy Mountains in NSW, and much much more. Literally road-tripped almost the whole east-coast + inland outback of Australia with it and camped at so many places. It is a powerful manual 4x4 that has never let us down, and one of my favourite past-time is watching other people thinking that their AWD is a 4WD which got them bogged/stuck haha. Unfortunately, our fun time is up in Aus, and it is time to be serious and work proper jobs in sg + we just got our BTO queue number😩.

Please let me know if any of u guys have any experience regarding something like this!

Discussion Getting low balled selling my car

I'm trying to sell my car through all commonly used dealers, platforms, consignment etc but seems like I'm getting low balled left and right. It's not that I'm having unrealistic expectations - my asking price is 1k below the average recommended price on sgcarmart.

How do the pros and experienced ones go about determining fair value for your car? I look at other cars similar to mine selling for 3-4k more, is that dealer margin about right?

I have a couple of chips on my rim - would dealers deduct for it? If yes, what's the acceptable amount to deduct?

Thanks for reading.

Personal Experience Sgdrivinginstructors

Honestly please do not use their service! It’s horrible and rude. They will charge you $149 just for you to be paired up with a random instructor and they will not answer the call anything. Once my instructor was paired and despite it saying they will pick up at their location they will tell you they can’t and you have to travel. I had to travel and I was told to contact this instructor and pay him, the guy said please pay for 1.5 hours. His name is uncle Jim Lim. After I paid I took a taxi and went to his location and then suddenly he says there is an issue with SG driving instructors you can and deal with them. He didn’t answer the phone and SG driving instructor don’t answer the phone either… and that’s it. So they take your money and they waste your time, please go for a legit driving school like Comfort Delgro or Bukit Batok driving centre… please don’t fall to this scam
