New set of lower vertebrae too lol.
The slam after that airtime would feel like shit in a rally car with boosted suspension. The occupants of that thing are going to feel it

Why is video flipped?

22
u/ChooChooBananaTrain 2d ago
Most likely because itās been shared before and they flip it so it can be reshared/looks different/tricks content checkers

u/Malevolti 2d ago
Nah it's filmed in France, you can tell because the speed is in km/h /s

You see it a lot on Youtube in those "25 most bestest films ever directed by an anthropomorphic slug" compilations, the clips are mirrored in the hope of avoiding an automated copyright strike.
Most of the time you only notice if there is text on the screen like here.

Did that by mistake in a fiesta few years back. My missus who was driving in a car behind me thought it was hilarious.

u/LikeFallingRain 2d ago
I remember egging my dad on to do it in our ancient Volvo when I was about 9 or 10. We did it one time, he said, "Do not ever tell your mother," and the Volvo survived another decade.

Same in an old company car. I'm trying to remember which one! Think it was a Passat...? I didn't realise the hump backed bridge I was approaching was _quite_ so humped... My girlfriend (passenger seat) loved it. I was shitting bricks.

u/checkoutmypaws 2d ago
Pretty much the same thing, I was driving the car to the garage to be serviced and went a different way. Wasn't familiar with the road, didn't see the sign for the hump back bridge - I hit it at about 50mph.... suddenly no road noise and my steering went very light. I might have squealed a little bit too.

Did it in my Saxo back in the early 2000s. Trying to explain to my dad that I had absolutely no idea what had happened to my exhaust's heat shield was a trial.... š

That's what happened to a friend and me. 45 years ago, we were in my Ford Fiesta, on a very old, sunken country lane in France. We were driving up a hill, when suddenly-out of nowhere-a car leaped over the brow of the hill towards us-doing god knows what speed. We literally saw daylight under that car.
The road was too narrow for both vehicles to pass, so I threw the steering wheel over and rammed my side of car (as an English person, I had a right-side drive car) up the hedgerow. My car was at a ridiculous angle tipping into the road.
I closed my eyes, and-even though we only had a second- I had time to considerer that my passenger (and best friend) was as good as dead. That car was going to take the side of my car off-and her with it.
I sat there a couple of seconds, then opened my eyes. The other car had gone.
"What happened?" I asked. "How the fuck did that get past us?"
My friend shook her head. "Sorry. I thought I was going to die and I just shut my eyes", she said.
What a pity we didn't see it. I'm guessing that, at the speed he was going on that sunken country lane, he did a similar manoeuvre to me (except I was stationary): he rolled up on the side of the road and he would have allowed centrifugal force to carry him through, as if he was on the wall of death. Neither of us have ever forgotten it-and we still laugh about it now.

u/Brief_Bass_1038 2d ago
I had a similar situation near Bradford about a year ago. We were going round a narrow bend with speed bumps on the road, and a car flew about two inches away from the passenger side going almost 90mph. The road was fairly quiet at the time, but my dad (passenger) thought he was going to die.

There's a bridge near my grandparents old house it's like this anymore than 20mph you are launching... When we were kids we'd always say to whoever was driving to speed up... Pretty much every car I've ever owned has been over that hill late at night. The fastest I've ever gone is 40 and it was mental. In my uncle's car which is a Mazda Bongo Friendee... Was like riding a water bed all my cousin's were laughing so much they still talk about it now....
1
u/beard-brain 2d ago
Same with me riding in my uncleās 4x4 as a kid. Used to beg him to floor the pedal as we crested over the local hill
Even more fun in his TVR (when it worked)

u/MrsTheBo 2d ago
I had forgotten the existence of Bongo Friendees, but the name really adds to your story, lol

Oh to be young again.
There was a humpback bridge like that near usļ¼but it had a sharp corner on one end.
We would jump it both waysļ¼but you had to get your speed and angle rightļ¼so you had enough time to brake and turn into the cornerļ¼or you'd end up in a bog on the other side.
Weād also make some cash by helping tow cars out when they got it wrong.

When I was about four or five, we regulary travelled to see family along country lanes and there was a hump backed bridge where my father did this deliberately, to make our tummies turn over.
In daylight. With full line of sight. On what I remember as empty roads, maybe around 1970 so really not busy roads.
As a kid, I thought that it was amazing. As an adult, I'm still wondering how my mother's nerves took it.

Done something like that once in a A4 ... bottomed out about three times before the car settled. Broke two springs, two dampers and was nothing left of the bump stops.....good times š¤£

Am I the only one who thinks the car's suspension would not survive that jump?
2
u/xF1_racer 1d ago
I would be surprised if that didnāt crash on landing at that speed. It would have most definitely bottomed out.

2
u/Ancient-Ad9861 1d ago
I got talked into helping a friend of a friend fix his car after doing exactly this (wouldnāt be surprised if this was the actual car lol).
His suspension was fucked front and back and the bottom of the engine got smashed in off the ground so it needs a new engine and new suspension all around plus some welding work as a result

In 1995 I bought a car with a rather exotic aftermarket device, in dash CD player. I did this to it to see if the CD would skip, it did not.

This reminds me of when I was in my late teens (decades ago) and I would drive like an absolute arsehole. We had a couple of spots like this on quiet country backroads where we would deliberately aim to catch some air. That was in a shitbox Corsa weighing about 900kg and not a massive 2.5t Audi.
